This week, I finally got to sow my first seeds of the season and if I could bottle the joy it gave me, I would! I wanted to show you what I use to sow my seeds and make it easy for a beginner gardener to follow along.
It can be daunting and overwhelming when starting to garden, so each week, I'll be breaking down what I'm sowing, planting and working on in the garden, so make sure to subscribe!

I would like to see what your sowing each week, even if you don't film the act of sowing. I do love seeing the progress and the little life shooting up put of the soil.

Oh Karen it was so lovely to watch you sow your seeds out in the sun 😀 Looking forward now to seeing them sprout. I saw a small little starter greenhouse yesterday in B&Q and bought it for my seeds, so must buy the seed compost and perlite now 🤗

My 3 and 5 yo love the garden and plants! They love planting, watering, harvesting, sometimes eating… the entire process. I admit they get a little tired of the nursery’s and garden centers I drag them too. We found one with peacocks and a playground so I get a pass at that one. My daughter asks to spend time alone in the garden harvesting and looking at bugs and toads. It is absolutely the sweetest time and something I cherish with them. I know they won’t always love to garden (teenage years probably) but I hope that one day they return to it. Gardening with children is magical.

I planted in clear soup containers from a to-go restaurant. It's fun seeing the roots form and its a way of recycling

Saw this Natural slug and snail deterrent on Gardners World a few years ago and it WORKS. Put 6 to 8 whole or separated garlic bulbs in a pan, cover with water, bring to the boil and simmer for about half an hour. When cool, strain concentrate liquid into a bottle. How to use: pour about an inch of concentrate into a spray bottle, add water to dilute (1 part concentrate to 6 parts water) shake, you’re ready to go. spray your plants and surrounding ground. Re-apply once or twice a week. It’s brilliant and really works xx

I'm so excited to see you've started sowing your seeds. I started yesterday and it was so relaxing. I planted two trays ... I soaked my sweet pea seeds yesterday so I'm planting those in a few minutes. We had cloudy days for a week. It wasn't hot but a bit warmer than normal for this time of year. We did get six inches of rain Thursday into the night. I'm glad it cleared so that I could plant yesterday. Ive got some of the same seeds that you have sooo I'm going to try to stay up with you. I've never had much luck with flower seeds. There's to many ways and times they need to be planted. So I'm going to organize that. Do you start everything in little cups or trays? I use planters because we live in the woods. My yard is all woody with leaf litter. So no way I can plant in the ground unless I use raised beds but I'm also limited on sunshine.. Enjoy planting this week. Hopefully we will see them sprouting in a week or so.

I can relate to how you feel about seeds. I went to a discount store in Canada and bought 12 packages of seeds for $4, most of them from your easy sow video re zinnia, Cosmo, sunflowers etc. I saw daffodils coming up today, maybe 10cm. Ok spring I'm ready too. Thank you for sharing!

Love seeing your bright excited smile this morning. Looking forward to massive germination. Which plants repel slugs and snails in your area? Geraniums, catmint (nepeta), snapdragon, Lamb's ear are some of the thing we use in the US to detour. But I was thinking maybe some of the plastic Christmas garland or something abrasive to crawling over would work. Just thinking. I use beer traps. They are just sots. ha ha Have a great Sunday with your Mother. Happy Mother Day.

For a cheap option for those without the budget for trays with humidity domes - cling film (Americans call this Saran wrap?) works fine for me - just don’t leave it on after the seeds have germinated as they need fresh air and don’t like staying too wet/humid at that point. 👍

Love sowing seeds. Going to be starting mine soon but he rain is just non stop here in South West France. Thankfully i live on a hill! :) Have you thought of using a bulldog clip to clip your seed dome to the seed tray?? just a thought. Happy gardening to you. Xx

I hope to start seeds next month. We are having freezing rain/snow today here in NB, Canada. It is plus 1 though and not in the minus. You make me want to get more seeds and get to planting, but alas...I must wait. Have a wonderful Sunday and Happy Mother's Day to your mama.

You do look so refreshed after sowing seeds. It is definitely good for us to breathe fresh air and put our hands in the soil. It is still a bit too early to do much in this area. False springs happen often, then below freezing temperatures. And snow more likely than not will happen again a few more times. Have a wonderful week.

Thank you for another lovely video 😊🌺🌿 I just wanted to ask you: Do you sow according to what the seed packets say, or do you sow earlier? I have a packet of sunflower seeds, but it says to sow them in April, but I see that you sow yours now. Mine are called: Helianthus annus 'Uniflorus'. 🌻 I pray that you and your family have a blessed week ♥😊 (By the way, I live in the Faroe Islands) 😊🌱

Karen, you really need a proper greenhouse as you sow so many seeds. I don't have room for a greenhouse and the plastic ones just blow away ( I've tried them before). I just wait until May and buy small plants from the garden centre.❤

I really do! Now, with my plastic ones over the years, I’ve weighed them down with bags of grit and so far, they’ve not blown away. (Hopefully I haven’t jinxed myself now!) but I would love a proper one when I have the €€

what is your temp outside? i just sowed hundreds of seeds this week and i have them all in a little greenhouse like yours i placed inside my kitchen next to a huge sunny window. I was nervous that putting them outside in the cold would prevent them from growing? I'm knew to all of this so still learning and i live in New York so our temps are about 35-50 Fahrenheit at the moment. I think that converts to around 4-10 Celsius?

Potentially. I think the slugs can get though tiny spaces so I just wish the lids were more of a proper seal but I’ll see how it goes 🤞

Hi, I just started watching your channel this week and I'm enjoying it so much. You have inspired me to grow plants from seed in pots on my porch. I live in Central Florida USA and the summers are unbelievably hot! When the sun falls on a plant it bakes it. I thought when I moved here from New England (where it gets mighty cold) that Florida would be like living in a greenhouse. Not so, it is too hot and a plant that can survive here has to be really tough. I miss all the delicate flowers that grew up north. But, you have given me the idea to grow the more delicate plants on my rather large porch where they would be shaded. I'll give it a try. You have told me tips I never would have thought of such as how to prepare soil for seed germination, like moistening it BEFORE putting in the seeds. I always wondered how people got the seeds to grow after a tidal wave of water hit them! Now I see. Can't wait to begin! I have another thought on the Girliebits side. Have you ever worn your hair shorter? I think you would shine with a shaggy bowl haircut sort of like the ice skater Dorothy Hamill back in the day or even (don't laugh) John Denver only longer. Shaggy, bangs (or fringe as you say over the pond), dipping down your face and neck and ending about at your shoulders. Ask Katherine what she thinks. I think you would look so cute because this hairdo would emphasize your beautiful eyes! Well, I love your content and hope to follow along as your content grows and you grow plants, too. Love you, Florida friend.
