Just an FYI from an old farmer/rancher. If you want that fence to last dont use the welded wire, spend the little extra and get the wrapped wire kind. It comes in the same dimentions as the welded but lasts much longer. It will stand up to hogs much better than the welded. when I build a fence I spend a little extra to make it last. Im not a "homesteader" im a 6th generation farmer/rancher, my ancestors were the homesteaders. I've built many miles of fence, barbed wire, net wire, wood, and oilfield pipe. FYI you cut the post tops correctly but you need to either coat that post top with roof tar or make a cap of roof flashing. Sealing the post top will make that post last twice as long.

Jason & Loraine, I can't tell you how much I look forward to and enjoy your videos. Yes, even the fencing ones, Jason. I'm old so I have to live vicariously and I've learned a lot from watching how you do things. The way each of you put in a lot of thought and care into all you do is inspiring. The way you share your positive, can-do attitudes and watching you grow has brought me hours of joy and satisfaction. Thank you for sharing.

I like the jigs. I just use scrap 2x4 laying around and sometimes fight the board from falling off. One suggestion I would have when building a fence like this is to stagger your ends vs having all the joints on one post. It makes for a much stronger finished product!

Meatballs in the freezer is a great holiday planner, plus cold, shut in. My mother did before Thanksgiving. With you having your own ground pork it is easier to make a good big batch, abd in the cold it helped us to heat up the kitchen while making and take stress out for the holiday and winter. We could depend on no power in Connecticut in December thru January. And if we had a surprise, people coming over, all ready.

I always like working smarter. The fence looks fabulous! I think after doing the first fence section with your jig that you added the strip of wood to, l would have just screwed the strip of wood onto the jig so you wouldn’t have to keep adding it on top.

This is too late now, but I would have recommended leaving the posts at the full height. Why? Because you could pretty easily run a hot wire across the posts above the main fence. Why do that? Because dogs can clear your current fence, but a hotwire a foot or so above would be an effective deterrent. Because you might want to keep goats in there some day. Because you might want to keep deer out.
@SowtheLand19 күн бұрын

Your fence is looking so good! Your templates made great helping hands. Hahaha, with your comment about a tractor. I was thinking the same thing during your last video.
