I’m mixed race (hmong and Mexican) and I’m pregnant with my first child. When I talked about how my grandma’s “hmong pizza” was different, I couldn’t really explain further than the texture difference and use of “beans”, as I was a small child. Watching this video, I realized this must’ve been the variation grandma preferred and I cried! She’s been gone for 15 years now. I can’t express how amazing your videos are and how culturally significant they are for us more “Americanized” generations without elders to guide us. I don’t want my son to miss out on this part of who he is. Thank you again.

Omg your grandma is too cute! Thank you sooo very much for sharing this recipe. I use to make this with my mom all the time but it was just grinding the stuff. I watched her make/finish the rest but could never get it. She passed on in 2007 and every time I was pregnant, I always crave for it so I’d have my older sister’s SIL make it for me. Now, I can make it myself. Process looks a little different but definitely looks easier than what I remember growing up. Thank you again so much! ❤️

Curiosity compels me to ask the significance of the design on your shirt and the matching head scarf. I’m guessing they have a Hmong connection, yes? Your recipe today had my taste buds working overtime. It is a marvelous alternative to wheat breads and more suitable to those with dietary restrictions. Thank you.

Yes, the head band is actually a hat that the girls would wear with their Hmong outfits for the New Years, they come in a lot of variety and they each have their own significant meaning and names.
