In May 2001, Former Southern Pacific Daylight 4449 was still all black and silver colors after she pulled the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Employee Special in 2000, 4449 travels from Portland, Oregon to Yakima, Washington and return.

4449 pulls 14 cars for Columbia Deschutes Special form Portland to Bend, Oregon and return on March 23rd and 24th, 2002.

Brings back great memories to watch this again. I'm planning a trip behind that marvelous locomotive for June, 2017, when it travels from Portland to Bend and back over two days.

I'm looking at taking that June trip also. The 2001 trip was in my territory. I can see the Pasco to Yakima line from my back porch.

The locomotive has always used oil. It was built in the 1940's for Southern Pacific and operated mostly in California where there is little coal but plenty of oil.
