Great explanation MaM 😀 MaM the Trick only applicable for the Carbons - *Hybridisation = no.of atoms attached with the Carbons + lone pair* C2H2 :- H - C (3bond) C - H *So , 2 atoms are attached with the 2 triple bonded carbons resulting 2 and 2 = sp and sp = linear shape* .. Isn't this awesome ( I mean time reducer ) 🙂

What if we use the formula (v+m-c+a)/2. If we take the no of valence electrons to be 4, you get the shape of ethyne as trigonal planar and sp2 hybridised?
@PenandPaperChemistry6 жыл бұрын
Can you please elaborate on this formula. I don't know this method. Perhaps I can learn something new : ). If it gets sp² hybridised how will it form 2 π bonds?

One of my question was what is hybridization of c6h6 that is benzene
@PenandPaperChemistry2 жыл бұрын
Lata it is Sp2 hybrisidation to start with but then they start playing the 'passing the parcel' game called as resonance in the language of Chemistry😊. There is a separate video on resonance. Go ahead and try learning through it and send me a smile once you have understood😀. Happy Learning
@auroralshine61763 жыл бұрын
Ma'am , How to find this with the hybridization formula? (1/2(V+M-C+A)
@PenandPaperChemistry3 жыл бұрын
Hello Aroral Shine, Thanks for being patient. Actually I don't use this formula to explain/determine hybridisation in organic compounds. I feel it complicates it further. If you want to you can determine the hybridization by determining steric number. STERIC NUMBER of an atom= Number of ATOMS attached to it + Number of LONE PAIRS. STERIC NUMBER(2) -----sp STERIC NUMBER ( 3) -----sp² STERIC NUMBER (4) ---- sp³ In the above example, each carbon is bonded to 2 atoms and there are no lone pairs, hence hybridization is sp. The formula you have mentioned should be applicable more to inorganic ions. I shall soon record a video explaining this further. To then Happy Learning😊 Hope this helped clear your doubt. Best Wishes

Anushka, sorry I am not able to see your comment on this thread but I did see your query in the notifications ( looks like some technical glitch) To clear your doubt, please be clear that π bonding is not within one atom but between two atoms- so it's π bond between py of one atom with py of second carbon and pz -pz of the same two carbon atoms. Mam pz orbital forms sigma bond with another pz orbital, then why are we taking it as π bond. Please clarify
@PenandPaperChemistry4 жыл бұрын
Minati observe the way the orbitals are overlapping, perpendicular to internuclear axis or along it? Since they are overlapping like 2 ll lines and not hotizontally, they are π bonds. Also both lobes of the p orbital overlap. If still in doubt, please see the video differentiating between sigma and pi bonds kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIGqmXasp5Wpn9k. Yes mam they are parallel to each other and perpendicular to internuclear axis, but I think pz orbital passes through internuclear axis then why here it is not passing?
@PenandPaperChemistry4 жыл бұрын
Minati, this is about 3 axis and it can be any one internuclear, the remaining two just become perpendicular. like your thumb, first finger and second finger stretched perpendicular to each other. When we say X- Y- Z axis it's the 3 of them mutually perpendicular.

how can we know that how many bonds we have to put in between 2 atoms
@PenandPaperChemistry6 жыл бұрын
There are a number of factors which decide that out of which the important factors to note are : 1) Unpaired electrons to pair up 2) If there are lone pair of electrons they also tend to participate in bond formation but only if there is an acceptor atom 3) the state of hybridisation of the atoms. Hope this helps : )

π bond requires the overlap of both the lobes of the p orbital. What you are considering as 2 pi bonds between the same set of p orbitals ( py and py) is not 2 pi bonds but 1 only. why unhybrid orbitals are formed in alkene and alkyne. what the reason behind that?
@PenandPaperChemistry6 жыл бұрын
Hello Prince. Unhybridised orbitals are required to form pi bonds as these molecules have more than one bond between the carbon atoms. Do subscribe to the channel for more updates and videos.Please share with your friends too so knowledge can spread far and wide.

Purnima Prasad The molecule needs to form 2 pi bonds for which it needs two unhybridised p orbitals.
