@venvnco6259 that device actually works. Your other option in low ambient temperature cooling applications is to put a manual switch on the outdoor fan motor and go outside turn it off and on manually every 5-10 minutes. Your choice!

So the 24 for the reversing valve going to that board comes from the 24 (O and C) from indoors?

Why were they running AC ?

They keep the thermostats on Auto. Sometimes it gets pretty warm the building even in the winter where it’s basically an animal ER room.

How does it regulate the speed on a psc motor? Does it use speed wires or does it have some kind of inverter?

It lowers the voltage being passed to the motor. Kinda like a dimmer switch. It determines the speed by the temperature or pressure of the coil.

@JeffsHVACAdventures interesting. In a class on variable speed motors, they said you couldn't vary the speed by changing AC voltage, you needed to convert to DC and create a lower cycle frequency at full voltage.

Is there a quick way or site to find out if your fan motor is a sleeve or ball bearing type? If the unit fails does the fan not come on or reversing valve not switch? Just thinking about troubleshooting 5 to 10 years down the road. Thanks Jeff!

Good question,when you install the sensor,if the shaft on the motor goes in and out ,it is sleeve.

As Mario said below, the shaft does have more play in sleeve bearing motor. And yes the if the unit fails, the motor just simply won’t operate and you will get an error code flash on the device.

So this device can be installed on any single phase fan? Would it affect lifespan of the fan?

Any single phase PSC condenser motor yes. Not for ECM motors. I haven’t seen any evidence that it shortens the life of the motor.
