Hi, creator here! Long video so pardon my long response! This is indeed a creative mode build. Born more out of a desire to see if it could be made, rather than how useful it is. A functional model is what it is and as such it's not optimized at all, for clang or for performance. What little survival features there are is mostly for visual and curiosity's sake. Thank you for the fantastic feedback, helps out a ton when I eventually build a proper TBM that fixes a lot of the issues that have been pointed out and actually tries to be useful in a survival mode. Learned a lot, especially regarding survival vs creative such as welders having reduced range :) Props to you for actually reading the wall of text that is the description too! Appreciate you explaining how it works, it's always nice to see someone knows what they're talking about. Especially for those looking for inspiration it helps out a ton I imagine :) I want to refute and clarify some things starting with my "half assed" upload, it worked as it does in this video before as I uploaded it, after some updates on Keen's behalf it broke some things with projectors for many. Again, works for me, but not for some. With a function as complex as this, some things are bound to break for people, hence the known issues list in the description. Not because I knew about them and purposefully uploaded a faulty creation (Really don't like that reputation you're passing off). Never encountered problems from driving it to a wall since the drills have more than enough time to chip away before they are pressed against the rock owing to the purposeful slow forward speed. Weight (And component production if taken to surv) is an issue but that's what the pipelaying subfunction is for, for you to build whatever sorting/assembly arrangement you want at the end of it. This is just a model of a TBM and tacking an entire base to it is excessive to me. Not welding the full tunnel? Sure that can be seen as a problem but I fail to see how it "Causes a problem" if it skips a block that you are never going to see where it doesn't hurt the integrity, if anything it saves you material. The interior of the tunnel is still 100% complete and for the record, it does leave the conveyor on the roof where the track runs so you can hook whatever on ends of the tunnel... pay attention before claiming missing features ;) So willingly uploading a broken creation? Arguable I suppose, what works for me is what I deem publish ready. Making it seem like I claim it's flat out a broken mess and have uploaded it as such? No, that's misrepresenting. Updates to game can break scripts, blocks and make builds dysfunctional. It's just how it is. A lot of your feedback is related to "oh it wouldn't work in survival" which is all kind of moot for this specific build cause it wasn't meant for it in the first place so it shouldn't be passed off as a fault. For educating new pople on what not to do in survival I can understand and appreciate its value though. It just feels a smidge disrespectful to the creative building community to say "A lot of people build things that look pretty but don't work for shit" with previous statements of "Anyone who has played SE for a while know this is bad" as if those creators didn't know what they were doing. As a creative model it works. Clearly as shown by this video. I know rotors/pistons/landing gear in general attached to heavy weights is clangbaiting, especially in MP environment and is poison for survival where you want your things to last and be efficient. But I'd argue it's not amateurish to employ them if the environment the creation is meant to be used allows them. There are many ways to play the game, sometimes you build working items in survival, sometimes you have build-offs with your friends. Sometimes you just make models/replicas and bleed your heart out to them. To each their own and it takes time and practice to get good at any of them. It's more than likely I'm overreacting/reading too much into that statement chain and its implications but I wanted this out there regardless. I appreciate the feedback, don't get me wrong. Helps me, and many other space engineers out a great deal for the future :) I understand this video is more to pick it apart and show why it doesn't work in survival/your scenario. Just not liking the way the video is showcasing these "faults" as oversights or lack of experience when this wasn't originally intended for survival in the first place.

Thanks for the reply and I'm glad that you watched the video. It's a really good creation and I never would have showcased it if I thought it was worthless. It's one of the best creations I've seen and the concept is sound. I apologize if you feel that I put you in a bad light, but the fact that I showed your build off means that I was very impressed. Also don't feel that I didn't test this out. After the video I pasted it into creative several times and every time it failed. That's how it is with recording. It fails every time but when you're recording, it works perfectly. A lot of my creations have done that to me as well. They fail when I'm working on them but when I start recording, they work perfectly and make a liar of me. There are hundreds of thousands of creations on the workshop and very few people read the description before uploading. They upload it and when it doesn't work, they go on a rant and the drama begins. That's why, when you look at one of my creations, you never see a lengthy description explaining why it doesn't work. I never upload anything that doesn't work in creative and survival. If an update to the game breaks the design. I delete it and rebuild it before reuploading it. Half assed is just that. You uploaded a half finished creation. The impression that it gives is that you spent a lot of time on it, knew it wouldn't work but uploaded it anyways because you quit and didn't want the time you spent to be wasted. The problem with it is that if it works, it's a fluke. It doesn't work every time. This causes a lot of confusion in the community. Very few people read the description and even fewer test and gather knowledge before stating that they know everything. This makes my job more difficult. For example: Having the merge blocks on a rotor does work about 50% of the time but it's unreliable and people think that because it worked the only time they tried it, that it works perfectly and they will argue with anyone who says that it doesn't. Having an educated debate is a great thing but most of the time people will just argue because they are stubborn. I am very critical for a very good reason and I am hard on people for a very good reason. It's the little things that matter. I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that I didn't choose your creation because it works, but because it's a great inspiration. It has a few mechanics that I didn't think of and very few creations do that. It challenges my imagination and I never would have gotten as far with my creations if it wasn't for people like you, pushing the envelope of creativity. If you think that I was unfair in my evaluation, you can always join me in game and we can pick the whole thing apart together and give everyone a better understanding of your creation. I will be getting back into live streaming in the future and this would be a great opportunity to set the record straight.
@OctoBooze5 жыл бұрын
@@DragonNationGaming No, I think you're perfectly fair in your evaluation. The machine is fundamentally broken, from core concept onwards. It isn't, and can never be 100% stable due the tricks used to make it work and like I said, it was a curiosity project not optimized in any shape or form. A complete re-design is needed from locomotion to functions. There is no denying this. I was honestly surprised to see it working in current game version. But it worked stable enough back then, in its intended environment. That is my point. Not looking to start any lengthy debate but I greatly disagree with what you say about releasing a half-assed, unfinished product. It worked at launch for me, did tunnels for miles on end and ran hours upon hours of stress testing in different configurations, and when a fault came up, I troubleshot it until it worked stable again. Deemed it good enough. What else is there to do? Never release it because there is a chance that it will blow? In that time it was a complete build, not a half-assed half-finished version. I could take it down now but seeing how I am not making a new one for the foreseeable future and you yourself seem understand the value of concept builds, it feels... wrong to take this from 16K subs and the predecessor from 22K subs, not to mention anyone else who might stumble upon them. I give a disclaimer that it doesn't function in its stead, granted the one in this is slightly outdated. I have other things to do than constantly maintain each and every one of my builds, especially these experimental ones that have a thousand failure points. As long as it has a purpose, even if as a bad example, it stays on. "But you released it knowing it wouldn't work for eternity, therefore half assed" I hear you think. To which I say: That's just your opinion, man. Future proofing is great but isn't a requirement for a complete build. And that is my opinion. Of course I won't see a long description from you because you leave them blank and looking at the vertical miner there is a commenter taking it to themselves to explain how it works instead of the author taking the time to write "press X to start". Now that is what I call a lazy upload. Have some self awareness before devaluing the work others put into their uploads. Don't be a hypocrite, don't assume you know everything (practice what you preach), keep making awesome content and try to understand that other people have different approaches to the game and its associated workshop culture.

so from playing with this model in general, it DID work, however, there was a patch that broke the projectors. there was a work around but i dont remember (it has been a hot minute since i used this) Edit: it would seem that the projectors are working. there are conveyers that run through the tunnel. the conveyer that removes the stone from the TBM (runs on the roof; part of what that grinder in the back is grinding) is left behind after the connector is removed. the stone is not stored on TBM after it is pulled from the connector to an off-ship storage unit/refinery/assembler

Love the video but I use a drum drill instead of a bore. You get a wider tunnel. All you have to do is merge two rotors together and invert one of them (or just set the torque to 0 on one of them). Building a combine isn't hard and you can use pistons to move the mining arm up and down. This way you get super smooth and wide road. No need to build anything just add a few welders to the back and as the drills rotate around they are repaired. You can just eject junk stone as needed, and have a transport dock and offload ores/ resupply components for welding.

This is an old video from a similarly (exactly the same) named series, which is unfortunately nothing but whining about his drill and not indeed the continuation of what you were previously watching. Would seem not much has changed given the 3 year gap between this and the most recent video with him complaining about un-welded blocks and solar alignment scripts, two extremely trivial things. KZbin is usually better at recommending me creators when I get in to a game, it's really struggling with Space Engineers.

another idea for missed wielded areas add another set of projectors and a second bp slightly ahead of the others so they wield the farther bocks first then the older projectors can handle the rest, it might also add stability as you are adding to a set structure that would be connected to the inchworm tunnel itself and the tunnel machine.

As for the head... I don't know how well it would work but adding some small wheels all the way around the drill ~might~ help prevent it from getting too screwed up.

I know this may not work now, but I was thinking. What if you could replace the rotors on the top for making the system move forward with the pistons you use now, then make a similar thing on the bottom where it connect to a conveyor which unloads the resources. This is only taking your Inchworm system that works and merely using it's workings on the Octomoose's design. You have three pistons, two top and one bottom. The first top one detaches from their merge block and moves forward where it connects to another, then pulls while the other two push the bore forward before the back top and the one bottom, that has a connector to the conveyor and merge block, would detach and move to their new spaces and so on. (The bore would still move and weld stuff while always having three connections as it moves. Just my thinking, and hopefully that makes sense.)
