Okay, counter point though - that was not the goal? To be fair, SE1 and Medieval Engineers were both the first games of this style this company produced. The objective, as far as I can tell, was not to provide any sort of story based game or SP experience in the vain of what you are speaking about. The goal was to establish a sandbox environment for us to explore. They addressed this to the best they could a bit later on with these sort of scenario/story missions. Even Mods do not do the game justice in the effort to add an AI advisory. Don't get me wrong, they are good and fun, but there does come a point where you no longer face a challenge and are just grinding away at endless waves of AI. With SE2 - I would like to see some sort of SP story based game that is a bit more structured than what we have. But I think we all need to also accept that these games are not designed or catering to that. They are at their core sandbox games with a physics engine. Their focus is rightfully going to be on focusing on that aspect and as long as modding is available, I see no reason to push hard on them to make these features a base game element. Let them do their job at perfecting the core objective of their game and we can let our modders have a fun crack at expanding what we are given.

@CaemmYsWoed Жыл бұрын
Structural integrity - no chance with block building. How would you even approach it? Re-entry would require much higher top speed, which throws off collision detection and use of any conventional weapon. Not to mention the need of loading terrain and assets at extreme rate. Unless you want re-entry to be just magic area where things magically burn? Thruster offset on the other hand is relatively easy to implement. Only non-trivial component is built-in system that balances thruster output to maintain easy control. But I've seen much smaller studios handle that without an issue.
@Demozo_ Жыл бұрын
@@CaemmYsWoed Medieval Engineers has structural integrity. High speed collision detection is not a difficult solve, I am hoping for a higher top-speed in SE2 anyway. Loading terrain and assets at "extreme" rate is not that big of an issue in 2023. Any respectable physics library would make implementing offset forces a breeze. Just build your space ship symmetrically and you won't even need a thruster balancing system. Either way, none of these points are impossible to implement or "out there". Very doable.

There’s not a whole lot to do in SE1 solo aside from the limited scenarios and the usual building and survival stuff, especially on console with the severely limited modding. I get building cool stuff and making it work is the main point, but to what end? You build massive fleets and bases, but have no one to use them with/against. If they add AI teammates to help crew ships and bases in place of hoping your internet is stable enough to play multiplayer, then it would be infinitely better and add more replayablilty IMO. One of the biggest things I want from SE 2 is small/big grid integration. Small block are already what, one fifth the size of large blocks? It should be "relatively" easy to integrate them together. Maybe they can even add medium blocks that are 3 small blocks wide.
@mlq1718 Жыл бұрын
I kind of like the current 2-grid system, I think it's split among fairly simple lines that make it make sense - large grids are meant for having hangars and walkable interiors, and small grids are meant to be piloted from an external cockpit and aren't meant to be walkable (not that you can't make them so). I think if they were to add a third grid type, it shouldn't be an intermediate one - what if they went smaller and made a system where you could design your own grid blocks? Imagine if you could use their built-in blocks to design your own tools or weapons, or smaller structures like ladders. I think that could be interesting.
@tjpprojects7192 Жыл бұрын
@@mlq1718 Well the nice thing about if they combined the grids into one, it wouldn't change ANYTHING for people like you who prefer seperate grids. It would only affect people who prefer to add more detail to large grids, and people who aren't satisfied with how small small-grids actually are. I've seen some REALLY cool walkable interior small grids, but because they're small grids, the performance and walkability can be a little bit wonky at times, which I think a unified grid system might be able to fix.

I think it'd be huge if they overhauled the core grid system so that things like button panels, lights, and control panels could be offset without needing to add variant blocks for them. Basically, switching the system so you have grid-based "structure blocks" (armor blocks, interior wall blocks, and any "multiblock" blocks like thrusters, refineries, etc) but then also having non-grid-based "detail" blocks (windows, buttons, control panels, light blocks, signs, lcds, chairs, and most of the decorative DLC blocks) that could had their own sub-block gridding system to ensure they don't overlap, but are still able to place multiple of them within the same 2.5x2.5x2.5 meter block space (for large grids). I don't even think that'd be that hard to do.

There are many things I hope to see in SE2, some that have already been labelled as potential to make it in like larger block caps to allow for larger monstrosities :D that don't kill performance (I know, tall order) but maybe it's possible, a few new vanilla planets with more npc types ie. more native creatures with a better ai tied to them, water and aerodynamics. BUT! Honestly my Biggest hope for SE2 is the a ability to place multiple objects in a single grid cube eg. an interior light in a grid with a catwalk or plate wall etc.. and so on. Setting up a rule like if the physical hit boxes don't touch they should "fit" in the same cube would allow for so much more creation and flexibility I can't even begin to express how game changing it would be.

There are already 2 campaigns: Learning To Survive and Frostbite. They have been completed by 0.5% and 0.3% of the community respectively, going by Steam achievement stats. So I would be very surprised if they put more effort into that, given how poorly they have been received so far.

I hope they ramp the space exploration experience like adding space aliens that are hostile to players and attack on sight. Besides looking for ores to mind you have to worry about dangers lurking about, making living in space to whole new hard level, alien hives where rare ores can be found and be rewarded for your efforts of fighting hard core bosses.

More character customization would be nice. Doesn’t have to be Skyrim-tier, but maybe a few head shapes, skin tones and hairstyles to choose from. Also better animations and kinesthetics with the environment. Would make the game feel a little less Arcady and make combat a bit more enthralling.

I have over 1000 hours in SE, have played it for almost a decade and am as excited as everyone else at the potential prospect of an SE2 being developed. However, I am actually quite concerned with the snippets we have seen so far. All we have been shown is flashy visual stuff, but the vast majority of people don't really care about the graphics or the fidelity of impacts when crashing into terrain. We car about having an actual game built around SE1 which is essentially still a tech demo at this point. We can create amazing, complicated ships, rovers and stations but there's nothing to do with them. Our creations just sit in the vast empty solar system, completely impotent. What we need is engaging NPC interactions, progression, real exploration, an economy, hostile encounters, quests etc etc. I wouldn't want performance to be wasted on shiny visuals if there's still no real game loop. If SE2 does come to exist, I just hope it is an actual game.
@zaftnotameni Жыл бұрын
same here... if there were ZERO graphics changes but performance improvements, some degree of challenging endgame content (be it production, research, questing) that would make it awesome... specially agree when you say SE1 feels like an unfinished tech demo (I'd add with a ton of SCAM dlc on top)
@charismaticcat5374 Жыл бұрын
Yes we're in the same boat it seems in regards to opinions on potential SE2 improvements. I want something to fight with my big ships... A reason to go out and mine on the alien planet... However I am actually pretty happy with the DLC situation. At the end of the day, Keen have been working on SE for over 9 years and they need money to fund that. I see the DLC as more of a way of supporting the general development of the game rather than me caring about the blocks that much.@@zaftnotameni

One of my biggest wishes for SE 2 is that they find a way to incentivize players to actually use small grids and rovers. Right now in SE 1 it seems the only mechanical reason why you would use a rover over something that flies is energy consumption, but the moment you find a uranium patch that never becomes an issue again. The only real mechanical reason to use small grids are that they cost less to build and use less energy overall but again once you find uranium that power issue is gone and the only thing they're used for is your first miner to get enough resources to make a large grid miner and then you don't really need them ever again. Maybe if uranium was specifically only attainable in very small quantities and so the power consumption of large grids would require that you have some small grids to account for it. Maybe if thrusters just burned a whole lot more power/hydrogen which would make wheels much more useful due to their very low power consumption. Maybe if large grid blocks were made much heavier to the point that only very small large grids were able to fly in atmosphere and thereby encourage small grids to be used for planetary movement and travelling from surface to space. I don't know what the best way would be to go about it but those are some of my ideas.

I just want to be able to play multiplayer without needing a super computer. I dragged a few of my friends into the game, and we fell in love with it. One of my buddies now has something like 8000 hours logged or something (He didn't even want to play the game initially, now I can't get him to play anything else). But as soon as we start building cool stuff together, our server starts lagging and we rubberbanding everywhere (not from lag but from the server not being able to keep up with the world processing.) Forget the graphics, they look decent already, focus on the back end and networking. It will be a AAA game then!

What I want from SE (2 or otherwise): - More seamless massive multiplayer worlds. These are possible, but server switches are far from seamless and take a large staff to host and maintain. - A better PB API, that makes it easier to share and run PB scripts without nuking servers, by putting the work on different threads or even offloading it to clients. - Support for building on planets in PvP environments. The caves and baked maps are already heading in the right direction, to allow bases to not be spottable easily from orbit. But simply, there is no defenders advantage, so your only real protection is hiding, and you can only ever hide in deep space. Integrating heat mechanics that make industrial building in space more expensive might also be a longshot idea. - Adding more complex mechanics. I don't mean Factorio necessarily, but in that direction. More then one kind of pipe, with progression that involves more complex builds and takes longer then a few hours of mostly just searching for stuff. More decisions about what to put inside a ship, and where to put it. All that said, "looking pretty" is a good sell. If its not a half-baked fiasco like KSP2, then that alone might be enough to bring in many new players and spice things up a bit.

Lets not get it twisted - this is not SE2, this is just the engine. SE2 is not even confirmed yet. They are using assets from SE, but like, why wouldn't they use stuff they already have. That being said, if SE2 does get made, what I would hope for is 1) PVE gameplay and NPCs. I don't want to have to mod them in 2) An exploration component and a reason to be on planets and explore them. Also better environments that would actually have different foliage etc 3) Less clangy pistons, rotors, wheels etc 4) New ennvironments and challenges (water sounds cool, for example, as long as there a reason to be in it). Also, now that I think of it, having lava sounds cool

I am delighted by the scope of what they hope to accomplish with planets. My major hope is that they make planets worth exploring beyond the terrain. It's hard enough to justify rovers on most planets over using thrusters - perhaps they could have weather interfere with thrusters to further encourage rovers in worse weather, as well as allowing players the options to make their own larger-scale infrastructure on planets, such as road networks, pipelines, power lines, railway systems, and other larger-scale infrastructure to fill the gaps between the scatterings of stations across the surfaces of planets and moons.

I want the ability to add small blocks onto large grids, when selecting a small block look at a large grid, this grid will have a 3x3 or 5x5 placement on the face of the large block you can then build off of. Would allow for much more decorated interiors and it would help compress larger ships. Pack more things.
@christopherpoet458 Жыл бұрын
Okay, here is a thought. Crazy idea for SE2 Unique resources on each planet that allow unique blocks or weapon types. For example: Earth would have the standard assortment of resources with a few other planets in the system. All these planets would be spawn locations so no one could just spawn with immediate access to a unique resource. Then you could have a planet that say has a unique metal stronger and denser than Steel which would let you build advance armor blocks with heavier durability to conventional weapons. Another planet could offer a unique metal or crystal (of if we could, gas) that would allow the construction of energy based weapons. Maybe with a few variants for a variation of firepower. Another planet could offer a fuel source better than uranium. Things like that. And it would be something that could be updated and expanded with development of the game to keep adding new and refreshing ways to play the game. And it should be noted that these items would be balanced. For example, that heavier armor block that is more resistant to conventional weapons might be more vulnerable to energy weapons or high heat making new weapon types more useful. And as a counter balance, shields could be added at the cost of being ineffective against physical projectiles. And if I really want to keep adding to this wish list, I would love to see environmental hazards. Toxic Gas, Radiation, Gas that slowly weakens and breaks down blocks, AI Hostile bases with NPCs and Ships, Space Hazards (maybe nebula storms or something if that could be done) Idk what the limits of the engine for SE2 will be but this is my wishlist.
