Perhaps that included some learning from other games (and I approve). Avorion has symmetrical building, where each block is simultaneously placed on the mirrored part(s) of the grid. From The Depths has "prefabs", which are user-defined grid segments. Those can be quite complex and placed in a few klicks.

are you really hyped about that? I was expecting orbits like KSP, planets that move and rotate, real planet sizes, movable and huge asteriods, and not a sad 300m/s speed limit (which makes no sense in space).
@deggy42
@deggy42 Ай бұрын
@@iCore7Gaming It's an alpha. SE1 launched into alpha with almost no features and look where it is today. The 25cm grid, the increased speed limit, and the lack of low speed collision damage all point to a game that's trying to let players do interesting, emergent physics-based stuff. SE1 is very easy to push past its breaking point in those departments, so it's exciting to see movement in the right direction.
@bakto2122
@bakto2122 Ай бұрын
@@iCore7Gamingthat would be a different game. Dealing with orbital mechanics isnt for everyone and not what this game is targeting. As for real size, I mean even kerbal space progam is only at a scale of 1:7 (compared to SEs 1:100) and it has a fast forward button (which you cant add to SE because multiplayer). Just exiting the atmosphere would take forever. Also when was the last time you ran out of space on a planet? On the other hand moving asteroids seem like an awesome (and feasible) idea. But also not quite sure how that would improve gameplay. And yeah the speed limit is kinda sad but assuming a simulation speed of 60fps. You'd be already moving at 5m per tick, which is enough to phase through walls, depending on implementation. They probably have some measures in place to prevent that from happening, but those are probably gonna be significantly more expensive if your suddenly moving at 15m per tick. (The part about the speed limit is like 60% speculation. Ive never implemented a physics engine)
@RealTwiner

@@bakto2122 The distance between objects for the purposes of collision does scale the cost of the calculations, its a sad and unfortunate reality that there either is no way, or hopefully, no known way, to remove that connection.

I'm so impressed you have managed to not only update it all along, but also improve upon it and make a sequel. Whatever the issues that undoubtedly will come in this next one, getting this far in the videogame industry as it has been this past decade is an achievement and a half in it self. It has been fixed, in some of their dev vlogs they showed you can place smaller blocks in "empty space" on blocks like a medical room and can place diagonal parallel blocks that would have not been possible due to block overlap in the previous grid system

MMO scale is unrealistic to expect but I am really hoping SE2 will be able to run higher pop (say ~50 players) servers without constant chugging. Even low pop servers with few to no mods in SE have frequent performance issues, even KSH's own 20 player official vanilla servers start to run really poorly when 20 players are actively doing stuff with grids, the poor MP experience is always what prevented me from sticking with SE for long. If they can get solid smooth MP servers hopefully with more players in SE2 I will be very happy.

My only issue with it being 10,000 light years away and it taking 10,000 years to get there. Is that it implies that if you travelled close to the speed of light it would take from your perspective 10,000 years to arrive. But it wouldn't. You can get round this by saying that they are travelling at 0.74c which is the point where 1 year onboard = 1 light year travelled onboard.

This way they get player participation feedback early, instead of releasing it all 5 years later. Oh, I also super duper love the "backpack building" thing, where our backpacks are chunky because they have mini refineries/assemblers built in; can literally handmine and start building, just standing there.

I love space engineers, it was one of the first games I played when I got a pc. Everything you've shown off here excites me, but I want to give a bit of advice. I am not a game dev, more so just someone who genuinely wants the best for your game. I really hope y'all make sure to 1) make clear that this is an alpha, so things can and will change as development continues. 2) Don't skip on optimization until after the game launches to early access, because that's been one of the largest complaints I see used against sequels to older games. 3) Know that no matter what you do, your work is appreciated, and that the community always wants the best for you and the amazing games you make.

wdym, its totally 100% been ""Released""! Here's what I think happended: The game was not in a state where it has mass appeal, so they ran out of money and had to "release" so they could sell DLC to get more money from existing players... instead of actually fixing the reasons so few people buy it. And now they've further developed some of the basic systems, which were NOT the real dealbreakers to begin with, they're trying to repeat everything, somewhat better, but not focussed on the real issues.

1. SE1 WAS finished 2. SE1 uses VRAGE2, a limiting and outdated engine. Whatever they wanted to add to SE1, they can't because the engine can't support it. It was built at a time when half of the PCs were running on Windows XP, the rest on Win7. We didn't even have Unreal Engine 4 or DirectX 11, for reference. 3. SE1 is 11 years old. It's about time we get a fresh coat of paint on this franchise, also it'll bring more players and more highlight to the game, and probably allow devs to make more ou of this one (the first game was pretty niche).

@Rentetsuken
@Rentetsuken Ай бұрын
Based on the roadmap linked in the description, their plan for this stage of the Alpha looks to be finding out how the new engine is going to break on different hardware, stress testing blueprint sharing and mod support, and fixing any unintuitive controls and UI. Once they've dealt with the potential issues due to unexpected hardware or other things they didn't/couldn't test for, then Survival will be the focus. Planets and likely basic encounter systems will be part of this stress testing. We have seen VRAGE 3 previews of planets before, so it's likely this is a deliberate holdback to have the bug and glitch data in part 1 being clearer. Once that is done, it looks like that's when they'll be doing all the bugfixing on volumetric water. Multiplayer is looking to be after that. While it has been shown off in the trailers, they seem to want to make sure the more underlying issues are addressed in this alpha testing before they introduce that mess to the general populace. No current time frame on when all this future stuff will be happening. I'm guessing their thoughts are "when stops exploding" or some equivalent. Likely why the livestream was having them outright say that if you don't want to participate in this Alpha testing, then hold off on buying it.

@LeChatALunettes
@LeChatALunettes Ай бұрын
Are you aware of the gameplay limitations and even the engine limitaitions with speed? 2km/s would not only be useless (no one can react fast enough at such speeds, it's useless in 99% of situations for 99% of players), it'd be extremely harmful for performances, knowing the physics of SE games. If you want more you can always mod it, but it'll never be as stable as vanilla speed.

@GidarGaming

@@LeChatALunettes Engine limitations only really exist because of the limited imagination and problem-solving of the people creating the engine. There are many ways to achieve faster speeds without it looking like a slideshow, but most of those methods just won't work with their current engine and alongside their other systems and their prioritization on small-scale physics simulations. Don't get me wrong, I know creating a game engine is a monumental undertaking, but in the first SE it seems that they prioritized tracking small pieces of debris over keeping the game running smoothly and over actually moving your ship fast. Particularly in multiplayer, sadly. It's not that they can't, it's that they prioritized other things. And while those things allow you to feel a bit more like an engineer solving problems within the scope of whatever current project you're building, I'm not sure those things all matter as much as they seem to think it matters. For example, why "engineer" new ships in space if you can barely even use them because the ship you spent so long to build barely even moves at all?

@@derpsterPRO Im not saying to not buy it, and I understand your perspective for sure. I am aspiring game developer also, and trust me I image how much SE2 can cost them to make - but keep in mind, they are working on it for couple of years now, they have funds from SE1, and hearing that they are continuing with SE1, I think they want to keep it as main source of income for SE2. We should all keep playing SE1, dont expect much from the sequel, and carefully buy it when it is ready. Otherwise, we can just be left in the dust as KSP2 players were. I really hope that KEEN is better than them.
@GidarGaming

@@derpsterPRO What do you mean? How do you think companies funded themselves before "Early Access" as a concept existed? You either paid for it upfront (i.e. out of pocket), get a loan, or find investors. (Or you worked on it completely for free as a side hustle until you complete enough of the game to be able to sell it.) Considering they made good money off the first game, as well as stuff like Medieval Engineers, if invested wisely by reinvesting into their own business they should already have some budget to work on it. And then if they sell enough copies it will pay itself off.

Not really. From what we've seen just in teasers not counting the dev stream, there is literally already an order of magnitude more content in SE2 than the SE1 alpha release. SE1 release had light armor, vents, a light, ion thrusters, gyros, reactors, and an antenna iirc. Maybe 20 different blocks in total including the different armor shapes. Which is how you do an alpha, especially an early alpha.
