I guess you mean your not risking your walls? But interior turrets also need to be manually loaded and can be destroyed easier due to the time given by the low damage. If you compare that to the small amount of plates needed for a block it would probably be safer to have these.

This is a wonderful general-purpose turret design, 360* with very good elevation controls. The only real weakness is that it can't aim down, but that ain't really a problem if you're dotting them around the ship, as well If you upscale it you can mount quite a few weapon systems, both vanilla and modded.

I love how compact it is, my only concern is it's not able to point downwards. Now, you can get past this with some clever placement, but me and some friends have exploited similar turrets before by getting so low the turret goes flush with it's base and then you can just peck away at it (or use a suicide drone). You could grind a floor block and dive into that and the turrets wouldn't be able to shoot at you. The Vanilla turrets can have an almost full sphere of fire if you elevate them, so a version that has that capability might be a really good (and honestly pretty challenging) next project. Despite all of that though Heavy armor brick go *Gau-8 noises*

Especially since it sounds so painfully slow and whimpy. Well, calling it a minigun/gatling gun is also a bit over the top. 700 Rounds per minute from a rotary cannon, that's assaukt rifle territory. At least they could make it sound faster.... That's what I like about the mod that adds the Phalanx CIWS, just hearing your base/ship go "brrrrrrrt" for a few seconds whenever meteors/small ships/missiles are incoming is beautiful.

@@ayumikuro3768 I’ve seen so many mods where they dropped the damage of the individual bullets in favor of accurate fire rate. These mini guns aren’t shooting some obscene round, it’s 20mm right? The gau 8 is spitting out over twice as many rounds per minute and it’s 10mm bigger

@@theosb7271 I think it's 25x137 mm, like the GAU-12. Judging by the model, with a small block being 0.5 meters. But yeah it should be somewhere in between 20-30mm in calibre, but it just sounds way smaller. I was always astonished how much damage it did for it's weak sound. And I mean modders use the real-life sound of the Phalanx System or the GAU-8, so I don't see why Keen doesn't.

The one bullet strike makes they way more effective and in testing I've done I can say they don't suffer from the hiccups of normal interior turrets, at least my design doesn't. By this I mean the classic issue where the regular AI turrets will not fire for no reason, just track the person and do nothing, these turrets I have not had lacking like this they always get the mark.

Honestly i got how it was built just watching it spin about in the beginning. As long as you know how the new custom turret block works it should be rather easy.

Place rotor. Remove large grid rotor head. Add small rotor head via menu. Add small hinge. Add weapons and camera. Use the custom turret block, it's menu almost teaches you itself. Add extra armor as desired. You are done, enjoy your new turret.

@@devilreject6878 you need to use advanced rotors, but that makes a much bulkier turret as advanced rotor heads are 3x3 on small grids. You could use a small grid 3x3 hinge and then attach a small grid 1x1 hinge head and get ammo to it that way but at that point you have a totally different turret design. Best way to have a turret like this one is to have some small cargo boxes on it and hand load the ammo.

One weakness of this is that both turrets have the same setup. If you see at the end how the turrets are busy annihilating the small grid, you could easily use a grid as diversion while players are destroying the turrets. Use the fact you have 2 of them to have 1 targeting grids and players and the other one targeting only players.

Interesting. I guess for interior defense it doesn't need to be able to shoot feet, so the limited barrel elevation doesn't really matter. This looks pretty fun for base defense. This'd never fit on a ship, but could you put it on a piston so it can lower into the floor and hide under some kind of decoration?

At a bare minimum, this custom turret design is 390 pcu plus any plumbing to get it conveyor'd. That is at least 3 interior turrets worth of pcu. It has 200 more meters of tracking range, so that is good. Does it do 3 times the damage? Each additional barrel is 90 pcu plus maybe 10 pcu for a small conveyor to connect it. Hmmm...I still think you can cover more area with 3 interior turrets. Less blind spots. A quick and accurate shoulder fired rocket will take out an interior turret. I bet the blast damage will take out this as well.

Well, it's an interior turret. No human would be dexterous enough to do what the auto-aim does, so not much need to remote into it. Also I think the turret control block aims based on that "primary" gun/weapon that you specify while setting it up.
