Space Engineers - Lets Build! - Elevators

Hello and welcome! This is a basic tutorial of how to build a elevator/vehicle lift in Space Engineers.
This is my first ever attempt of making a published video for KZbin and my first video for Space Engineers. Hopefully I've explained how to build this easily enough, I do apologize for any sound issues as I'm still getting use to my mic and how the video editor works. I also have a breathing issue, but I won't get into that right now. I hope you enjoyed this video and I hope it helps you build that dream elevator/vehicle lift.

@@brohammerinc4673 No problem, I'm not good with making scripts... However I love messing around with timers and sensors, this design is possible the best vanilla design anyone could come up with... Especially with the new small grid doors added.

Brilliant !! Just what iv been looking for. This is going into my space station, except it will be going top down so the floor will be suspended, lowering crew into the bridge area ; D Cheers for the vid, keep them coming, just vanilla blocks w/DLC would be greatly appreciated as I'm on xbone x

Sorry for the late reply... But you're welcome. With the addition of the small grid doors, I've slightly updated this design to allow the doors to be only accessable if the elevator is at the level/floor you're calling it from. That design will be in a build I've been working on for the passed month and is to be done very soon. Feel free to checkout my Workshop as well and keep a lookout for it

Amazing dude one thing, you should have explained how the blast doors u fast switched to two different types, also i built the whole thing not realizing u attached the pistons to the doors not just set them on the floor, it looks almost identical, I’m gonna rebuild now that I got it down but still amazing u upload this thanks

Hey mate, jw how many blocks were between each level, i realise I could make less floors by reducing the piston extension ( 2 or 3 I'm after) but a number to start with is always helpful. Cheers again for sharing this.

This was one of the more informative videos I've seen. You explained thoroughly how things work together. I do have one question, why use the blaster door parts connecting the pistons? Is it so they don't cause friction or something else?

The first block is attached to the piston head, then goes down the side of the piston it is attached to, then the final blast door block is attached to the next piston body. As for friction, no problem since the blast door block has a minimum collision box.

I'm guessing you will do the amount of pistons for the amount of levels minus 1? (because of the ground floor)

I was actually thinking doing that, starting off with the Hyena and Nomad builds. From their first designs to the current ones. Ironically, I'm starting to rebuild a old ship I made years ago...

@@demize7498 the base build you have for the large base once change you could do is add a piston to the work shop move the welders horizontal

@@thenotoriousdog8149 I was actually planning on doing a rebuild of that base. I found a script that would be more immersive and better for that use and I've learned a few new ways to improve my builds. Ironically, most of my older stuff will be getting a update one way or another

I’m thinking ‘yes’ but can the pistons be adjusted for different height floors?

I’m thinking it would need fine tuning of the piston extents for each piston and it would be limiting the number of floors. Unless you maybe using a programming block?

how is he attaching the small block to the middle of the rotor? it won't snap to it for me

sorry figured it out if anyone else needs help you NEED a small rotor head. Grind off the normal one and then go to the terminal and add small head

Why not just build two or three pistons under each other, then setup all of them mac range to the highest of one block and thats all , you need only to set button for one piston to move to the second floor,unite two of them into group “third floor “ and so on..

This design is more compact then simply placing the pistons above eachother

Unfortunately I don't not play or own a console, only PC. So I wouldn't know where to even begin to try to make this BP available for Xbox. Though this is pretty simple to build, but as a BP, you wouldn't be able to build it from a projector due to it being several subgrids which projectors don't carry over to.

Haha this is so complicated it's not even funny. I just wanted to be able to make a 1 block piston that reaches 8 blocks not some huge contraption. Guess I'll have to look for a mod. Sometimes this game makes me so angry. Why the hell did they make pistons so bad. No reason for it to stick out on not be flush with the floor.

you should just be able to stack 2 pistons and offset them to be flush with the floor. SMH

@@b151proof I've been requesting additional blocks, like a longer piston and longer slopes to the devs directly with no avail. Ironically they use a longer slope mod for their Keen logo intro of the game haha. But this is the closest you'll get to a vanilla elevator, unless you use a rotor climbing lift like what BlackArmor showcased awhile back.

@@demize7498 Thx for the reply. Yes, although the strat is complicated thank you for helping! I ended up using a mod but only downside is that the bottom part of the piston turns invisible after a certain length. I just use a sensor to automatically close elevator door so I can see it lol.
