My favorite episode so far. The base is looking fantastic and I want a mech to patrol my base.

Thank you, I think it's coming along quite nicely. Patrol mechs aren't too difficult to set up, Remote blocks work best for walkers and Recorder blocks work best for flying drones.

Man, youre such an inspiration to me. Like others here mentioned, I used to use a lot of scripts. But now with the automatons and signal there are so many opportunities to engineer in a total different way. Thank you so much for all the ideas and showcases. Much love and respect from some german ingener-wannabe Stay safe and healthy, oc everyone who reads this 😁😎

You could set the drones/mechs and the base with ‘action relays’ so that when one detects an enemy, the other goes into alert/battle mode!
@dread_mechanic18 күн бұрын
That's a good idea but not really necessary for the mechs I've built so far, as they all have their own AI Defense block. However I have been planning on doing some kind of lookout towers/early warning system that is going to do exactly that sort of thing 👍 I want to build some little outposts about 1km away from the base that can send a relay signal back to base and get the defenses up and running before an enemy can get too close.

Wow! I am thoroughly impressed by the mechs youve created. The walking cycle and mech is so damn cool. Also ive gotta get the design for the miner mech you made ive never had the brain power to make a vanilla auto mining setup like you have and resort to PAM usually. But mech mining is much higher on the cool scale. Great work and definitely looking forward to the next episode!

Thank you very much. I've been on a mission to vanillafy as many of the scripts I used to use for mech stuff. All the recent changes and new blocks have made a lot of things really easy to do with vanilla methods. And the Red-Fish is going to see lots more action soon...I really need Silver & Ice!

@@dread_mechanic I dunno man, 'easy' is a relative term lol. Its incredible, it walks better than i do 😅 even with 2000 hours in SE playing with these blocks im not sure id be able to make anything even close to as functional, and def wouldnt look as cool, thats some excellent work

@@Raziel7888 Ha ha true, everything is relative. But with all the changes that have come from Automatons, Signal & Contact it really is easier than ever. I've been trying to do mech tutorials for a while, but Keen keep updating the game and making it better, so then I have to start again 🤣

If you set set the rotor on the feet to be off but have a moderate amount of braking torque, the Mac will adjust the angle of its feet to the terrain that it is on. The only issue is that the Mac needs to raise its knees higher.
@dread_mechanic13 күн бұрын
A good suggestion, but unfortunately all those hinges and rotors need to be switched on for the legs to move. I completely forgot an important ingredient, but I will address it in the next episode 👍

14:30 What trick to make the roads so much smoother on the slants?

Ah, saw you answered below! Ty! Yes please do a tutorial! 💚💚💚

Check out the next episode and I explain how I did it 👍
Yo! How did you make that docking arm? that was so sick!
@dread_mechanic9 күн бұрын
Thank you! The arm itself isn't too complicated, it's essentially just two hinges and a piston that extend & retract when you turn a light on and off and a connector that resets all the velocities and locks down when it detects the mechs connector. It took a little bit of tweaking to find the right RPMs to get a smooth animation 👍
@eshfwog17 күн бұрын
how do you get the custom turrets to rotate back to their origin?
@dread_mechanic17 күн бұрын
Using the new "Rotate to Angle" action. First you have to turn off the Turret Controllers AI, then use Rotate to Angle to set them back where you want them 👍
@eshfwog17 күн бұрын
@dread_mechanic I'm flabbergasted that I missed that in the patch notes That helps a lot. I thought you were somehow doing it with rotor limits. I'd been wondering for the last few eps
@dread_mechanic17 күн бұрын
@@eshfwog I used to do these kind of things like that, but since the last update it's super easy to just use Rotate to Angle.

what is the trick that you know for the slope hahaha, i need it! (pleaaaaase)
@dread_mechanic18 күн бұрын
If you mean the slopes I need to build more roads anyway so I'll do some on camera at some point. But the quick version is using a Projector on a Rotor/Piston set up to place 2x1 slope blocks on the desired angle. 1.The top back edge of the 2x1 slope base block can slightly clip into other blocks, so you can place it really close to other armour blocks. 2.You can then build a bunch of 2x1 blocks off that but you have to make sure it ends with another 2x1 base block. 3.At the other end leave a 2 x block gap and place a 2x1 base roughly where the end on the line will be, but build it slightly higher so you can get a 2x1 slope armour PLATE on the end of it overlapping the road you want to join up to. 4.Now if you go back to the gap you left, aim at the larger section of the ramp you just built and place a block to fill in the gap. It should snap to tip of the ramp onto the larger grid and pull those armour plates through the other section of your road 👍

@@dread_mechanic thank you so much! another question, my skid thing IA doesn't go faster than 18 m/s while following me even tho my flight ia is set to 70 m/s... i can't understand why
@dread_mechanic16 күн бұрын
@@nicolamariano745 No worries! And your AI issues are almost certainly thruster related. The AI blocks get a bit fussy about about following targets on different elevations if they don't have thrusters on all axis. If their target is even a few meters too high or low I've noticed that mechs will either stop moving or start moving in the wrong direction. The simplest work around I use is to place a single small H2 Up Thruster some where on the main grid of the mech. It doesn't need to have fuel or even be piped up, it just need to be switched on so that AI blocks think they can fly upwards. Have a look at my Scrap Walker and you'll notice a little H2 Thruster tucked into the back, this exact issue is why that is there 👍 I will cover this in my next mech tutorial when I find the time to get round to it.

Hello just recently subbed to your channel. your mech builds are awesome just wondering if you take build requests if so don't no if you played or have not played metal gear solid if so can you build the metal gear rex from MGS 1 or from MGS 4
@dread_mechanic18 күн бұрын
Cheers for the Sub and thanks for the compliment! I've never really done requests, but as it happens I have actually made a few attempts at MG Rex with varying success. Rex is a such a cool design, but so impractical from a technical standpoint 🤣I will figure out how to get him working eventually though.

if the ai blocks make the mech walk on his tip toe why not add a wheel on the front of his feet?
@dread_mechanic18 күн бұрын
Good question! Because of his small size & top heavy center of mass and the way suspension friction works, he would most likely snag his toes on the slope with each step and flip himself forwards. Suspension friction in SE doesn't create realistic drag, it's more like a probability of sticking to the floor and can make strange things happen particularly if you mount them sideways.
