Welcome to episode 6 of Space Engineers Survival on Pertam! In this episode, we're doing some hangar work and making a new rover. It's about time we upgraded from the little respawn rover thing we've been using since episode 1 to something much more capable of surviving and thriving on the dunes of Pertam. Also having a hangar will be nice so that our precious vehicles don't get struck by lightning.
If you like the video, be sure to leave comments and hit that like button! That's how I know to make more of these!

I like the timelapse just keep telling us how long it actually takes. It helps me build and get an idea on how long my base will take.

I'm not sure if this was a joke but your spectator cam caption read "my time is neigh" instead of 'nigh.' Now I can only picture it as a horse in a spacesuit with a video camera following you around.

These days when I make a connector for rovers, I use two hinges to connect the rover with the base. That way there's some flexibility depending on the type of rover being used.
@AndrewmanGaming
@AndrewmanGaming 3 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty good idea! It would give probably a full 2 block variability to how high the connecter is.
@ShannaeDarkehart
@ShannaeDarkehart 3 жыл бұрын
I was gonna post the same suggestion if nobody else had. It's very convenient, although you have to account for the length of the hinges in your hangar design. Which you pretty much have anyway with how large you made it. The only time I don't use two hinges is when I'm using a piston that is set into a subfloor or loft where I'm also routing my conveyors and such, and lately, I find it more convenient to just leave room for the paired hinges than to go through that rigamarole.

between the Med. Cargo Containers should be some Conveyor Junctions for transferring large items that won't fit through the small Conveyor tubes. an Elbow Large Conveyor connecting to the connector port will allow all collected items to be dumped into your base Gyros can be placed along the front of the large container. beneath the cockpit and between the front and middle wheels should be where the Batteries go for balance and to keep the center of Gravity just ahead of the center axle. make sure to place a pair of Gatling Turrets on top for self defense and set the range to maximum for picking off base defenses on outposts. add some Solar Panels on top to augment power generation while travelling about or to recharge when away from base where you can't access a connection port. don't forget the Antenna! Lightning defense is done by using a Decoy beneath an antenna on a tall item to attract lightning away from sensitive base equipment or you a connected Welder beneath can repair everything back with a projector for hands free, no aggravation protection. Base is coming along good and can use some additional storage to gather up salvaged materials found while driving around

@MrMattkid
@MrMattkid 3 жыл бұрын
Oh, and something to help you out for inventory management. All ores can freely move through small cargo doors, but if you want to move components through you have to have large connections for certain components, that's why the welder for the vehicle has a large opening on it. But the reason this'll help with inventory management I that on your small grid vehicles you can setup an in and out sorter on the smaller openings and you can use them as filters to pull and push things in and out of the vehicle. You can also set each on to a button so you can toggle them on and off from outside of the cockpit without entering a control panel menu.

You could use half blocks for the vehicle bays to make connecting easier or another option is an advanced rotor to adjust the height. The Half block idea offers a better visually indicator of the parking area.

I would always build the chassis of any Rover out of heavy armor blocks just so when they hit the ground you don't lose a wheel because of light armor blocks being too weak
@cyphi474
@cyphi474 3 жыл бұрын
You would have to put sorter on your rover to suck it out of connector. But that would complicate unloading trough connector on your base. You could have two connectors on rover(one for loading, other for unloading), but they are pretty heavy. Horizontal connection is always problematic. I preffer connecting from the top. You can always adjust your suspension, which is way easier to do.
@tunigkhan4942
@tunigkhan4942 3 жыл бұрын
You can make something like a ramp at the first rovers "parking lot", maybe half a block lower, so it can connect without needing to play with suspension. Also the gyro and ore detector looks perfect lol

Another note, you can create builds using small and large grid peices using the rotor head swap trick. Again you will need to lock the rotor head in place, possibly even enable them to link together for the physics, would need to play around with it more to verify, but I have used this trick to haul large cargo containers for bases using a small grid vehicle.

Hm. Most of us know the game. What we watch these for is for the individual perspectives... the individual thought processes are what make the viewing experience unique. So, my suggestion... instead of repeatedly asking us what WE want to see, do what YOU want to do in the way that you want to do it. If you keep asking us and then change your recording method to suit us, you're going to end up making a clone of other channels which removes the uniqueness of your own. So as far as the timelapses go, do what you want. If you like them, go for it. If you want to talk while you work, do that instead. Just remember, we all know the game. You're not adding anything new as far as actually playing the game. We watch for your perspective and individual style. So keep your emphasis on that and you'll be just fine.
@Xero1of1

Just a quick clarification: This in regards to the way you record, not asking for input on ship design. Asking the viewers for help there is useful and allows us to have some input in the videos. :)

I recommend placing the connector in the control panel to switch lock and place the cockpit in the control panel for hand break. Also, last stand gamer has a video specifically for rover suspension. It is possible to sprint-jump onto a 5x5 small grid wheel from the side, so your new rover won't necessarily need a ladder for the survival kit. Also, if I remember correctly, offset spotlights have a lower max radius than regular small grid spotlights.

Here's something to add to the new rover: on the cockpit you should assign a handbrake on the toolbar instead of using "P". I know you're sick of it, but it's the best way to go. Also, keep going with the timelapses! They are a perfect addition to your videos!

-at your mining outpost I think it will do more finish if at the entrance where is the cargo container underneath you build a conveyor junction and level it with the floor going down your mining area. -you can put a hydrogen engine after your survival kit it will fit perfectly there, and maybe having 2 small hydrogen tanks on the bumper at the back. Also me as well, I prefer time laps like you just did. I have a tendency to not watch those 3 hours of building (just a floor or roof) video anymore. in fact, I don't even subscribe to them. I like your content it simple and you make us participate, I love it

very nice video my opinion on timelapses: timelapse the mundane block-placing parts of the build, and record the more complex and interesting parts of the build normally that large rover you're building could function as a small mobile base. just fit a defensive gun turret, and it's ready to go on multi-episode long expeditions also, remember that battle royale map you started making a year or two ago and never finished?

What are you going to put in the front? Seems like you don't have a lot of weight in the front. When you add the weight in the back from mining the rover would be too heavy in the back and hard to drive.

Hmm that's a good point. I could put a few batteries quite low in the front. But yeah I did kinda squish everything in the back. I'll try to think of something. Worst comes to worst, I'll put a bunch of heavy armor blocks on the front to distribute the weight.

@AndrewmanGaming
@AndrewmanGaming 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah wheel settings are quite confusing. I dont know why they dont have some sort of tooltip text over them or something. "Power" is like the horsepower of your vehicle. It's how much torque they have. How fast they can go from 0-60. "Strength" is how stiff your suspension is. A low value makes it a bit more bouncy while a higher value makes it tight. When the vehicle gains weight, you might have to increase strength so it doesnt ride too low. "Friction" is how well your wheels stick to the ground. I don't mess around with this much unless I find myself slipping down a mountain slope. Those are atleast the settings that I used to have lots of trouble with.
