Thanks for this video!! I bought a similar heater (different brand; same BTU rating) yesterday, and I had the same problem, right out of the box. I was not happy to say the least; especially since I had to drive 120 miles round trip to get it and in the mid-sized city that I had to go to, there was hardly one left anywhere to be found due to the cold snap we're in. I got the last one one the shelf at the store I bought from. I found your video, and followed your very clear instructions and it works like a charm now. I'm not the most handy guy and I didn't even know what a thermocoupler was until I saw your video, so thank you so much for taking the time to post it!

Excellent video to fix my 20 year old heater, The only thing I would like to add is that you can also take a piece of fine sandpaper and go over the thermo coupler to clean dirt off of it. The dirt on it also insulates it just a little bit so it may lose some sensitivity. That is what I would try first, if the brand someone is working on does not have the adjuster nut. Once again, thank you.

I have a Dyna-glo 40btu. The Igniter works, but no flame. Would that be a thermocoupler, or maybe the Regulator? Great video.
@ExcellenceInAgriculture2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I’m not sure, but my first guess would be the regulator or something if it’s not lighting and your igniter is working.
@daveriedel91872 жыл бұрын
Can I ask a technical question? I have a 1996 propane torpedo heater that goes up to 100,000 btu. The regulator that came with it has a light blue screw-on cap that came off and the set screw inside turns easily. How can the regulator be adjusted if need be? 2nd of all if I have to replace the regulator, can I use a generic one from a box store, or do I need one that will allow flow for up to 100,000 btu? I am new to propane torpedo heaters. I have always used sunflower heaters. Love this video .

I’m sorry I don’t know the answer to that question, but perhaps someone on here will!

I just bought one of these Mr. Heater 30K-60k BTU on Sale for $119 and I like it. Diffinetly Quiter. My Insulated Garage is only 24ft x 28ft. My only CON is my Old Dyno Glo was a variable 30k-40k-50k Heater. Never had to go Higher than 40k. On the Dyna Glo, you started it at the 30k setting and when the Knob comes out, it allowed you to turn it up or down even lower than 30K. I like to keep my Garage/Work Shop at 38-40F in the Winter, I have a lot of Tools. We could turn the Flame down to about 3.0 inches on the coldest days and keep it in that 38-40F range. A 20 lb bottle would last about 34-36hrs so I'm guessing it was around 16-18k BTU on that lowest setting. So I'm wondering if a Mr. Heater could be adapted to do the same thing?

Hey man just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your video because I was fixing to toss it in the scrap pile, because I could never find out what was wrong it would burn fine but as soon as I let go of the knob it would go out instead of staying lite and I even looked at the company website for a way to fix it but I couldn't find a single commit or video explaining why or what was causing the problem, but I found your video and even more suggestions in the comments like using sandpaper to clean it, but I agree with you on trying to fix it yourself and I feel like the companies are not even trying to give you some information on fixing it because you are not buying a new unit or replacement parts, which is more business for them, even though it's not the most expensive thing on the market, but to some people a $100 is a bunch of money and to other people it's just pocket change.

I replaced mine yesterday - I got cocky thinking that was it, and it keeps going out. If I play with the gas button a bit it stays on - are you supposed to slowly depress the gas button?

Does this work like bypassing the thermocouple? So I dont have to bypass the thermocouple to keep constant blowing of heat? Just turn the nut instead of bypass the thermocouple??

This is exactly what mine is doing. I'm going to go home after work and work on it. Thanks brother. Btw I got so frustrated with the heater months ago and just left it outside. Do you think I ruined it by doing so. We about to get a lot of ice and I'm sure the power will go out. Got to find a way to keep my family warm
@ExcellenceInAgriculture3 жыл бұрын
I hope this helps you get it going! But if yours is like mine, you still need power for the fan to run. And be careful about carbon monoxide, I've heard on the news of a couple people who died by going to alternatives for heat. By leaving it outside I wouldn't think that would ruin it, your ignitor might be damaged so you may need a different way to light it. Anyway, stay safe and I hope you get your heater going again!

@@ExcellenceInAgriculture lol yes when I went home yesterday I noticed the electrical plug hanging off the back of it 🤦♂️ but the good news was we didnt lose power. Sometimes the problem is a loose or dirty connection between the thermocouple and the safety valve. The electrical current is extremely low and a bad connection will cause this problem.

Thanks, man! Very useful and exactly what I was looking for - I too saw the vid where the guy changed the part, but I was sure there must be another way and I do not have the heater with me in order to experiment, so your presentation pretty much gave me confidence it will be an easy fix tomorrow. BTW, for the next vid - less stoned = less slurred talk and less "Whatcha gotta do is you take these three screws out on the back... (shows a nice blue-green wire)" :))) This is just a friendly joke&suggestion, mate, please do not take the slightest offense. Also, I am a foreigner, so that might be why I had to listen twice to some parts in order to understand them. All in all, great job and a great little princess!
