This song and anime are very important to me, so I wanted to tribute both. “Space Lion” composed by Yoko Kanno and performed by the Seatbelts

I can't believe the many times I came across Cowboy Bebop I didn't even consider watching it until recently. I thought the show would be some kind of comedic western. I like anime that gets dark, deep thinking, and hit serious subjects. Boy was I wrong about this show and I'm glad I experienced. Cowboy Bebop is timeless for a show that aired in the late 90s. It ages very very well. If this show was to air this year, the story line would still be considered fresh and original compared to others. How many times you watch a show or movie and you can guess what happens next because of the predictability of the writing. Cowboy Bebop is a gem and I can see why this show was one of the first few big animes to be successful in the west. From the stunning visuals, chill soundtrack, great English voice work (I realized Steve Blum the voice of T.O.M, voiced Spike), to the little sayings after each episode. This will go down as one of my favorite animes, and I'm not even a huge anime guy. See you space cowboy.
@daystillnight2 жыл бұрын
Yeah man, absolutely share your passion for it. Not only is it great visually, but the soundtrack is also spectacular, I listen to it almost every day. The message of "You're gonna carry that weight" is something I think of a lot too, and I love the way it coveys this message. I can only be grateful for having watched this anime when I did, it is very important to me.
@domthesupa2 жыл бұрын
@@daystillnight That is a good message, especially for the finale. How would you define that message, I know everyone decipher it in their own way. I look at it as no matter how hard things may get, it's best for us to keep on keeping on. No matter if the world feels like it's ending or the walls is crashing down, keep going. Because something out there is still worth living for, even if it's only a small percentage

Earlier this year (2023), I put this on as I was driving home from my last day of work at a job I had come to fully hate, knowing that in two days I was also going to be moving to a different state in pursuit of a new opportunity. It had been an incredibly difficult year to say the least. The feeling this track evoked for me as I was making my way home (which was about to NOT be my home) is one of letting go of the weight, stress, former ambitions/goals of the previous endeavor and just embracing the new journey that lay ahead. There was sadness in leaving the people I had come to know, but at last I was free to move on and pursue what I had been putting off for years. TLDR; the weight and eventual relief that is involved in moving on from a difficult time/experience is captured so well in Space Lion, something that the characters in Bebop have to do many times.

Can anyone believe that this track has been a part of me and my memories for 22 years, with a special place in my heart, and I have never seen Cowboy Bebop - until today? I am serious. And today after 22 years I’ve seen the scene where it was used in the anime for the first time. We all make our own reality - and the sadness I’ve „saved“ with this song is comparable to this anime scene. Strange and amazing at the same time. Must be a great anime

@@daystillnight In 2002 there was an anime convention in Germany where I live and a friend brought an anime soundtrack CD with us to listen to div trax on our way to the convention (hundreds of km/miles) and even though he and the girlfriend which was with me are both not part of mine anymore since decades - „space lion“ remembers me in a time, where we had great moments and fun. The sadness is, I will never get to know if they are still alive, have a family, are glad or sad. Hard to describe why this is so important to me, combined with this track but - I think everyone of us here has people in their memories in which they remember with sadness - and connect these people and moments with special tracks or kind of music. Such a song/track is space lion for me. Even though I haven’t experienced it’s initial purpose, what it’s been made for ☺️ well, anyway - it’s one of the most wonderful anime tracks I know and it always makes me looking to the clouds….
