You can block/parry dodge roll or heavy attack to counter for an opening. In most cases, unless you're a bulwark with a shield, you should avoid melee unless you have a way out of that fight

clean gameplay! is there any competitive modes or anything coming to pvp? it just looks like most players are bots in this game for some reason

There's a heavy emphasis on team play and most of the players jumping on board are still a little clueless running around with no map awareness lol. Players will improve soon and the pvp will recieve new modes and a ranked system with an additional progression system. For now you kinda just play pvp, win, and unlock armor pieces and weapons
