It's hard to imagine any PC gamer not being familiar with the Space Quest series, but any long-time fan can tell you just how special this series is. As the comedy/sci-fi cousin to King's Quest, SQ was an amazingly original (and hysterical) adventure game that went totally against the grain of its contemporaries. Thank God it did: it's as brilliant as it is odd.

Ah, Space Quest, when adventure game designers realized they could be funny. Nothing against King's Quest but this is one of the big games that really got me into point and click with its jokes alongside the danger. One of the greats, SQ1.

*_"Space Quest"_* . A name that has aged as well as a glass of fine wine. Developed by the *_INCREDIBLY_* talented brains at *_"Sierra On-Line"_* , the game is an excellent, comedic adventure where you play as *_Roger Wilco_* going to save his planet from the *_evil_* *_Sariens_* . As a kid with a *_DOS_* computer, I have never played this version of *_"SQ1"_* . I am far too used to the "parser" system that it shares with the early *_"King's Quest"_* & *_"Police Quest"_* games. Looking at this VGA, Point-&-Click version, I like the nuances here... but the graphics, while good just look off to me. It doesn't really fit this game as well as it does for say *_"Leisure Suit Larry"_* . Also, that slight nod to *_"SQ4"_* in *_"Ulence Flats"_* is just awesome. I'm gonna give it a go sometime.

Before I knew any English (Didn't learn English until like late 1991 to 1992 somewhere) I used to mix up between Space Ace and Space Quest, also never understod how Space Quest was played as I was still in NES stage. Anyways Space Quest sure is a forgotten title and protagonist, nowadays characters like Roger Wilco is done by "indie" developer who is made as an "Edgy Ironic" Protagonist

Ahh, this is the good stuff. My bread and butter genre. You should try Space Quest: Incinerations sometime. It's a fan made game, but WOW, the quality is absolutely stunning. It's also hard as BALLS in spots.

text parser on sq1 taught me to type 60 wpm, so I have a soft spot for that and pq1 ☺ I really appreciate the detail in your description, too!

Those bits where you have to punch symbols on a number pad, was that copy protection of some sort?

+ESmith It was in the disk version. The codes were in the manual. It shows them to you in this CD version, but if you don't write them down when they give those codes, you won't be able to finish the game.

@@NintendoComplete Ugh. I remember that. I *HATE* when *_"Sierra"_* games did something like that. King's Quest V: 😮 _"Whoa! This rat is about to get eaten by this cat! Better catch i-"_ [GAME] *_"Too Late!"_* [ME **rage quits**] It's terrible game design.

A little add on that was not in the original, but recognizable for those who have played 'Space Quest 4: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers'

Apparently Scott Murphy is pissed at this game because it was made without his and Crowe's involvement
