Well, up until 6th Edition, we actually had one true loyalist group of Marines. The Black Templars. Among the most, if not the most atheistic (regarding the deity of the Emperor) of Astartes. Also, the only one following the Emperor's Nikea Decree of all of the other "loyalist" Chapters. To remind all, the Emperor ordered all Librarius disbanded and for all Librarians to immediately cease using psychic powers and return to being battle brothers. The Emperor also said: '"Woe betide he who ignores my warning or breaks faith with me. He shall be my enemy, and I will visit such destruction upon him and all his followers that, until the end of all things, he shall rue the day he turned from my light." Ever since then, GW has tried to backpedal and make excuses about it only being against "sorcery" (which they redefined after the fact as a different kind of witch powers) and the Council was only about Magnus. Finally, after all the weak sauce whining, they simply turned the Black Templars into Empy worshipping whiners who claimed they didn't know why Empy took away their witches. Amusingly, GW had to retcon their retcon to cover the true to lore (for both pre 6th and post 6th) Black Templar initial reactions to Primaris Marines... absolute rejection. FWIW, nobody knows exactly how, but what evidence there is points to Girlyman in his Codex Astartes reauthorizing Librarians after the Emperor's fall. Of course, the same Codex turned the mighty Space Marine Legions, a coordinated group of bulwarks and strike forces against enemies of the Imperium, into the rotten picket fence of little independent Chapters with little to no oversight on them we've seen for 10k years of lore...

Finally someone mentions the tempering(battle of the fang, good book, from a good series), and it's quite the shame it's not more known piece of space wolves' lore. I kinda expected to see svane wulfbad and his blood wolves and/or skyrar's dark wolves instead :P

Don't forget about the 13th Great Company, which is in the warp and appear to have many Wulfen Battle Brothers who are stable and not insane werewolves. Of side interest, similar to the Black Templars, it is strongly hinted that the Great Companies, supposedly "chapters", are potentially greatly oversized formations. Well, at least they go out oversized and then after enough attrition, come back to Fenris and get replacements and then go out again.

The space wolves 13 great companies were all large in size when they were a legion, each with thousands to tens of thousands of marines. I think it was only the 13th great company that was about 1000 or less marines who were primarily made up of those who were with the wolf king before his rediscovery by the emperor

I don't understand why people keep on with the same childish and boring furry joke, werewolf are not even similar to furries in concept after all, and the joke is not funny. (Let me guess the smart answer: "Because they are furries, lol lol lol lol") 😑🤦‍♂️

@chimera916 OK, how about I explain why I crack it so often? I remember when the Space Wolves got their first codex way back in 2nd Edition... filled to the brim with broken stats and characters. Playing against them was insufferable, having to deal with some clown with a codex full of bookmarks so he could "Actually..." you every round to slow the game to a crawl. If you thought gotcha tactics were only part of the modern game, the seeds were sown way back in the 90s. The Space Wolves to me are synonymous with painfully slow games and constant rules-lawyering, so I take any chance I can to stick my big Orky hobnail boots into them. It also never fails to get a rise out of them. Dat's wot Mork teechez yer - kick 'em when dey ain't lookin' an' go fer a senzitive spot.

@@chimera916People joke about Space Wolves being furries not because werewolves are so close to furries but because the chapter as a whole has so many units and titles as either wolf, fang, or something else wolf like. It is so oversaturated in those naming conventions that it makes the furry comparison funny, not that they actually are furries
