Facts: Mel Brooks went to George Lucas and told him the idea for the movie. He loved it, and said they could use all the Star Wars sets and props, but only on one condition, they could not sell any merchandise. That is the reason for the scene in Yogurt's cave. The reference re: metamorphosis (when he gave the command to Kafka for the ship to change into the maid with the vacuum cleaner) - is a nod to Metamorphosis - a novella written by Franz Kafka. I loved your reaction to this hilarious movie. While "The Birdcage" (starring Robin Williams) is not a spoof, it's so much fun and more of a "farce" - which is usually a show, play or movie with absurd situations. For some reason, watching Spaceballs made me think of the Birdcage❣

Hilarious...Mel Brooks and Rick Moranis are ridiculously funny. Stupendous parody of several sci-fi movies, but mainly Star Wars!! ❤

My father's cousin was Vinny the Gangster with Pizza the Hut. His name is Rudy De Luca and he also help Mel Brooks write a few movies. I love spaceballs

The movie reference you didn't get was "Alien" (where that thing comes out of the guy's stomach). They used the same actor from the original movie!

I always giggled that Dark Helmet wears a tie. I don't know why that cracks me up so much. The creature coming out of the man's chest in the truck stop is a reference to the first Alien movie starring Sigourney Weaver. The beach scene with the two apes is a reference to the first Planet of the Apes movie starring Charlton Heston.

15:00-15:04/ The actress playing the princess is Daphne Zuniga. She was in the 80's flick THE FLY 2 with Eric Stoltz. She was even a regular on the original MELROSE PLACE back in the 90's. I believe she appeared on ONE TREE HILL, as well. ❤

The little critter coming out of the guy's stomach was an Aliens reference - you'll have to watch Alien and Aliens (the sequel) for a scary October movie this year...:)

YES!!!!! This was one of the earliest movies I remember watching, I've seen it dozens of times and it's ALWAYS hilarious..... Only got better as I got older and started getting some of the references to other movies I didn't know.

You need to keep up the Mel Brooks movies! “Young Frankenstein”, “High Anxiety”, “The Producers”, “To Be or Not to Be”(with his wife Anne Bancroft).

The diner scene spoofed Alien. The same actor played the part in both movies, which is why he said not again. The song was from Michigan J Frog in the Warner Brothers classic cartoon.

17:42 - That's an old Abbott & Costello comedy routine waaay back in 1938. I wasn't born yet myself, but when I grew up decades later, they used to always show this comedy sketch on TV a lot.

First of all thanks so much for all your reactions, and for all your hard work. Your videos always show how much effort you put in. Now just FYI: the last scene that you saw where the creature came out of the guys chest? That was from the movie Alien (the first one). And the guy that it happened to in Spaceballs, his name is John Hurt, he is the guy that it happened to an Alien also. There are so many references to great sci-fi movies. Mel Brooks is the master of these kind of spoof movies. He makes them so well so tongue-in-cheek, so sarcastic, and so hilariously funny. Now you’ve got to review his movie Robin Hood: Men In Tights (guess what that’s a spoof of? LOL!). It is really very funny. Thanks again for all your hard work. I’ve been a subscriber of yours since I first saw your reaction a year ago! 😊👍🙏

One of my favorite childhood movies. Mel Brooks makes the absolute silliest movies.

I would recommend two movies by Alex Proyas. “The Crow” is a fantastic film (though it sadly took the life of its lead actor (Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee)). It’s a supernatural revenge film, basically. Dark and gritty. “Dark City” is a dark science fiction film which is so damned good - it is criminally underrated.
@NWRefund10 ай бұрын
Also, I would recommend an OLD movie with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn called “Charade.” So good.
@NWRefund10 ай бұрын
Oh, I’d also recommend “Labyrinth,” which is a fantasy film with David Bowie in it and a young Jennifer Connelly. Puppets and puppeteers by Jim Henson’s workshop.

If you REALLY want to push the envelope, you should watch “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Meatloaf…

John Hurt was the one in the chest burster scene in Alien, that's why he says "Not again". For me it shows how genius Mel Brooks is. IF you haven't seen it, my favorite spoof is Robin Hood, Men in Tights. Put that on your list, it's amazing

I'm shocked that J doesn't know Who's on First (it's Abbott and Costello)!! You need to show it to him. A few things about the movie: Lonestar is dressed like Indiana Jones Yes, Valium is a tranquilizer hence the Prince being so sleepy. And J is right, there was a frog on Looney Toons that did the top hat a and cane song and dance. Once you watch the Alien movies and the Planet of the Apes movies, you'll get the references.

The funny part about Lonestar: George Lucas had a few conditions for Mel to make this movie. One is they couldn't have the main character look like Han Solo. So they made him look like Indiana Jones instead.... George also said they couldn't do merchandise (other than home video releases), hence all the jokes about merch...

Also, I forgot to mention that the last scene where the Spaceballs come out of mega maids nose is actually from the original movie called Planet of the Apes in which an astronaut gets lost in space and land on a planet, where the apes rule and human beings are basically caged animals. The last scene of that movie is the human astronaut, played brilliantly by Charlton Heston, Rides on the beach and comes to what used to be the Statue of Liberty, and he realizes that he is on the earth just in a different reality. That’s a fantastic movie too.
@cbiancardi923310 ай бұрын
You might want to edit your comment because they haven’t seen planet of the apes yet and you just spoiled it for them. So if they read the comments you just told them the plot line

You have to check out all the other Mel Brooks classics "History of the World" and "High Anxiety". He's in most of his films...he was Yogurt and the guy with the moustache who tried to leave the ship.

As someone else mentioned,the diner scene towards the end is spoofing the movie Alien. The guy that had the alien pop out of his chest was the actor in the movie Alien, which is why he said "Not again." And I find that to be the funnies scene in the movie! Also, the scene where Dark Helmet and company landed on the beach and the monkey guy rode up is spoofing Planet of the Apes. I love this movie and I can literally recite it verbatim from beginning to end. So glad you got around to this one.

One fact I love to share about the movie.....Mel Brooks mentions in the director's cut that the whole short scene with the "Mr. Coffee" machine was a way for him to incorporate styrofoam cups into the movie. In many of the movies he made before.....he'd have to reshoot whole scenes because cast or crew would love a cup lying around....so with the scene early in the movie he didn't have to worry about reshooting anything if someone left a cup lying around.

17:41 The old skit you’re referring to, Amber, is “Who’s On First?,” which was made famous by the comedy duo Abbott & Costello, who were two of the biggest stars in the world in the 1940s and early 1950s. They usually did the routine on radio, but one of their many films does have it, the 1945 film THE NAUGHTY NINETIES. I also recommend their earlier films BUCK PRIVATES (1941), IN THE NAVY (1941), RIDE ‘EM COWBOY (1942), and IN SOCIETY (1944). You’ll really enjoy them! Great silly fun!

At the end when you were confused, was a spoof on Alien (the little guy popping out of the guys chest), and the head landing on the beach was a spoof on Planet of the Apps. All great movies (originals that is...). Never saw a Mel Brooks movie I did not LMAO at.
