I agree with the order of Blazing Saddles, The Producers (1967) and Young Frankenstein. However, I feel that watching Young Frankenstein before seeing the 1930's Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein is like watching Spaceballs before seeing the original Star Wars trilogy, It's probably still funny but it's so much better knowing what is being parodied.

The new version of The Producers isn't a remake - it's a film of the musical of the film about a musical, rather than the film about the music like the original. It's also pretty good in it's own right. Hope that makes it clear.

Skip Men in Tights. It is pretty good, but it isn't worth watching Prince of Theives just to get the jokes. Same with Silent Movie. You have to watch all of Hitchcock to appreciate it. If you've seen Hitchcock, it's great. But not a good fit for this channel.

He has 3 all-time classics, History of the World, The Producers, and Blazing Saddles (in that order, from worst to best). (for the non-gamers, Grounded is a game where you play a kid shrunk down to the size of an ant, trying to survive in a backyard where normal sized stuff looks unbelievably gigantic. So it's almost identical to honey I shrunk the kids, and absolutely amazing)

Rick Moranis (Dark Helmet) was BIG in the 80s and early 90s. He mostly played "Geek" roles, and he's probably best known for playing the dad in the Honey I Shrunk the Kids trilogy. He semi-retired in 1997 after his wife died of cancer, so he can take care of his daughter. We're all very excited about the announcement that he's coming back to film -cough- the Honey I Shrunk the Kids reboot... Never mind that we'd prefer to see him in the new Ghostbusters movie, or a sequel to Spaceballs, or god forbid another Flintstones movie! *ahem* But he's coming back to us, and that's what counts.

This movie was made at the height of the Transformers toy craze, they were the Tickle Me Elmo toy of that Christmas time. The ship turning into Mega-Maid made perfect sense for the era for that reason.

Pre-watch: Girl, y'all need a cuppa Joe! never mind... lol Mel actually called George Lucas and told him his idea, George told him to go for it. The 4th wall is never safe around Mel Brooks. The guy in the helmet is Rick Moranis. His ability to make those sounds (and many, many others) is what got him the part. When you see Alien (1979), it will make more sense When you see the original Planet of the Apes (1968), it will make more sense. When you see Prince Valiant (1954), it will make more sense et cetera... Post-watch: Don't be in a hurry to see Mel Brooks movies. Can you imagine watching this without ever seeing Star Wars? You'd have had some laughs, but you'd have missed a LOT. This isn't the only parody. Young Frankenstein, High Anxiety, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Blazing Saddles... all are parodies of other movies and genres. There were big references even in this movie that made no sense to you because they were unknown to you. All of Mel's movies make fun of things most people at the time knew. And Mel's references can go back to the 1920s and further. NOBODY gets all of them. But the more you've seen, the funnier he gets. Definitely do see more Mel Brooks films!! Just wait a bit and ask around.

It's just so purely funny, to the point that when they finished filming, they added more scenes because everyone was having so much fun. Lol. So, two film references you didn’t get. 1. ALIEN. When the worm alien pops out the guys chest at the bar, that references a very gory scene in Alien. In fact, the actor is the same in Spaceballd and Alien, which is why he says “not again”. 2. 1960s Planet of the Apes. The ending reveals a statue of liberty half covered in sediment, revealing that the “distant planet” was earth all along. The megamaid is meant to look like the statue and of course there are apes riding horses just like the reference film.

@@Marcosaur03 - I got a bit of a tongue lashing from a co-worker in the mid-1990s when I revealed the ending to "The Graduate," a classic movie that was almost 30 years old by then! I remember I was trying to explain a reference to it in "Wayne's World," which came from the end of the movie. There was no other way to explain it than to spoil it. :] I was fascinated with the movie, because I realized once I watched it that there were all sorts of cultural references to it that I'd seen over the years, in advertisements, in a music video, etc. It was like, "Ohhh! So THAT'S where that came from! Wow!" He got kind of pissed at me, saying, "I might as well not watch it now, because you've explained the whole movie to me!" (I had explained the whole movie. That was the only way I thought I could explain the ending. I honestly didn't think he'd care.)

Mel Brooks, if you haven't looked it up, was president Skroob, and Yogurt. Barf was John Candy. Aside from other Mel Brooks movies, you should check out John Candy movies. I would recommend The Great Outdoors for John Candy. Blazing Saddles for Mel Brooks, but be forewarned, Blazing Saddles is ... not politically correct by today's standards. I would also recommend To Be or not to Be for Mel Brooks...and Young Frankenstein. Anyway, great reaction for this one.

Blazing Saddles is sort of the most important one, because a lot of the humor got political, and pretty *brutal* in it's commentary, and a lot of it is even more relevant today than when it was made. You're going to laugh AS you're cringing and squirming. And you're going to make that "O" face at the camera you make when you got shocked. You should do that one next. And then after Mel Brooks go through the films of Zucker/Abrams/Zucker (Airplane, Naked Gun, Kentucky Fried Movie, Top Secret) (Oh, and before you see "Kentucky Fried Movie" you have to see Bruce Lee's "Enter The Dragon")
