Its worth pointing out that Corellia don't sell their freighters with military weapons to the public. They generally design a single space frame with military and civilian applications in mind. Then if a police/military want a light picket vessel, the ship is then outfitted with weapons, if a civilian buys a ship its sold without heavy weapons. But due to the fact the vessels are designed this way, After market mods, like heavy weapons, are easy to install (if illegal.) because they only design one space frame for both military and civilian use, the cost to buy a Corellian vessel is lessened. KDY on the other hand tend to design there ships for a single purpose. And don't sell the military vessels to civilians. As a result KDY ships tend to be better at the specific role they are designed for, and modifying them for other roles tends to be expensive. While the corellian "jack of all trades, master of non" philosophy means there ships aren't as good, but are cheaper to buy and modify.

I imagine the VCX-100 was offered in a number of variants (which would be typical for a craft like this). My headcanon is that the Ghost was fitted for planetary survey, which is why it's got docking gear for a small craft-a cargo ship would never want to carry that weight. Even a smuggler generally wants to run rather than stand and fight. All of the crew quarters also make sense on a ship that could be out working in an undeveloped system for a long time-a freight crew would probably just make do with bunks and a galley/common room. The torpedo launchers are almost certainly some aftermarket component, or from a kit intended for local defense ships.

Am I the only one who loves this ship more than the Millennium Falcon and the Outrider?
@bsmnt235 жыл бұрын
have you ever noticed that the Millennium Falcon is totally diferent to every other SW ship? Every other ship has either turbine or rocket-style engines on the back of it. But the Falcon has that really cool blue bar. Odd.

At this point, is it really "unexpected" for a Corellian freighter design to be heavily armed? At this point it should be "As is usual with Corellian freighter designs, this class is heavily armed..."

If this is what they call a light freighter, imagine what a heavy freighter would be like. Im picturing venators with the landing bay committed to cargo.

2 squads of modified vcx’s and y-wings can take out a Star destroyer and it’s ties for the price of 3 CR90s. That’s how u build a sustainable rebellion.
@sharilshahed61065 жыл бұрын
VCX are pretty slow for their size, would rather make an easy target if facing heavy firepower. That's the reason why Ghost strayed away from most confrontations with Star Destroyers.

Sharil Shahed an ISD has at most 72 ties (48 TIE/LN 12 Tie/sa and 12 tie/rc). 1 VCX can take out 4 ties before its shields give out and by drawing ties away from ISD the bombers can take it out on 1 strafing run.

The standard ship actually doesn't have a support craft in it's rear. Hera added the phantom and it's docking bay
@templarw202 жыл бұрын
My only issue with this is that we don’t really know what the stock VCX was armed with. Like… way back when, in the West End RPG era, and reinforced by other EU stuff, showed a stock YT-1300 only had a single laser turret and half the acceleration of the Falcon. It’s not unbelievable that the stock VCX probably didn’t have torpedo tubes, and the chin guns were a lot lighter than the Ghost.

Why does Star Wars have so many "freighters" with less cargo capacity than a box-truck?
@brentc24115 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's canon, but there's a pic of the a yt-1300 using the front clamps to grab onto containers well over 10x the size of the ship, which makes sense for the offset cockpit, sensor dish and huge engines, that the ship itself is more like a long range "tug" or the truck part of an 18 wheeler, than being itself a cargo ship
@mitwhitgaming77225 жыл бұрын
That's one of the reasons I love the VCX-100. Because, unlike the YT-1300, the VCX actually has external magnetic clamps for hauling large crates.

I have to wonder, how did they manage to fit engines in that "support fighter" that were sufficient to give it any sort of mobility? There hardly seems to be room given the cargo/passenger bay.

“See with the ever rising threats of Piracy and rebellion we designed the VSX-100 with defense in mind. The stock torpedo launcher and auxiliary shuttle/escape craft give the crew of these vessels a far stronger chance of surviving pirate raids, though it has cost cargo space compared to our less equipped YT-series of ships.” -CEC probably at some point.

The rebellion should have bought or commandeered as many Corellian freighters as they could. A few mods and they would've had a formidable force of... I'll call them light corvettes.

They do have more superfreighter sized ships called bulk freighters, but most of the ship's we see seem to fit more into the role of delivery van, taking the cargo from the big ship's down to planets and stations the big ship's can't dock to.

This type of freighter with its armaments would be perfect for an armed courier, transporting goods to a hostile environment. Those features just happen to make it a brilliant gunship with a few "minor" modifications

Small high value cargos require protection and speed. Bulk freighters can handle the high volumne low cost oer unit shipments.
