Planet 9 is a very interesting topic to me because usually people are more curious of things outside our solar system or galaxy. But there are still a lot of mysteries in our very own solar system including planet 9! So, I have watched a lot of videos relating to this topic and this is easily the most in-depth, engaging & easy to understand for a layman like me! Thank you to the wonderful team & astronomers for this gem of a video

Couldn't we find planet nine by flying out farther than it's estimated location, turning around, then observing our star for wobbles?

We don't need to leave the solar system to theoretically be able to do that. We can and do track the movement of the solar system's barycenter. In fact, our data is made more accurate from the fact that we are so close to the sun. The problem though is the movement that planet 9 would cause on the sun would be so immeasurably small that we have nowhere near the level of technology required to be able to detect it. Another thing to put into perspective; If we could guarantee discovery of planet 9 by sending a probe out beyond its orbit to detect it, it still wouldn't make sense. Even with our most powerful and most expensive rockets it could take hundreds of years to get just to the orbital distance of the planet.
@Salty.Peasants
@Salty.Peasants Ай бұрын
@TheTonyMcD Yes, but it should be easier to look for a planet at the very outskirts of the solar system by observing from those distances than observing from Earth. Direct images would be easier because we can use the sun as a reference point. The only point of reference we have for a planet 9 from Earth is the perturbation of planetary bodies in the Kuiper belt.
@TheTonyMcD
@TheTonyMcD Ай бұрын
@@Salty.Peasants Well now you're talking about a totally different method of observation. Direct observation is completely different from astrometry. If you were to travel out to the distance of planet 9's orbit, it really isn't helping the situation. You will have the advantage of a smaller search area, but you still have no idea where it's at. You might get lucky and be close to it, or you might be unlucky and now it's twice as far away as it was before and beyond what any telescope we have could even hope to image.

Excellent video. It boggles the mind that despite not having yet seen Planet 9, through mathematics, it is thought it has an orbit inclined about 90 degrees from the ecliptic. According to the current model of solar system formation, all planets formed on the ecliptic. So how could Planet 9 have such a radical inclination? Perhaps a close approach by another star gravitationally perturbed it's original orbit. No other explanation seems feasible.

Pluto is not Planet 9 that’s what they taught you to learn in grade school that Pluto is part of the nine planets in the solar system. The Old Testament shows there’s another planet where we have been visited by Gods coming from this planet. Our ancient civilization called them Gods not aliens.

If an Earth sized planet really is lurking 100 A.U. from the Sun, what are the chances of it unwittingly being photographed by amateur astronomers? The plane of the Milky Way is frequently targeted by astrophotographers, some of which have telescopes and cameras that may be capable of detecting it, if it really exists out there.
@ahsokatano2657
@ahsokatano2657 Ай бұрын
I'm afraid you will never photograph a 22-23 mag. object even with a largest ameteur telescope. Capturing Eris, which is 18,8 is extremely difficult. Around 19-19,5, maybe 20 mag. in darkest sky in zenith is the absolute maximum for my 12 inch dobsonian with help of ASI 662MC . Pluto which is 14,3 mag. can be pretty bright in a long exposure. Quasar APM 08279+5255 in Lynx is 15,2 and appears only as a reddish dot. Haumea and Makemake are both around 17,3 and they are the the faintest dwarf planets I managed to find with help of Stellarium. Finding Eris and confirming it is almost impossible, I tried many times. And Planet 9 would be many times fainter.
