You touched on all these big things demonstrated in citizen con, but to be honest, I'm thinking this is stuff we will only see as early as next year. I have the feeling this year is all about the smaller stuff that has been pushed back and removed from the roadmap the last 2 years: - starwear might make it, as it also ties into actor status v2, - push/pull, (which was the second part of eva upgrade we saw last year). - Maybe life support might come together with engineering and battery drain/charge - item manipulation, slotting and equipment handling while being seated, - fully rendered helmets and decently working helmet equip and un-equip to waist, - improved ladder climbing mobility, ledge hanging, - social app / org stuff - perhaps further evolution in storing clothings and armors in ships and habs (if personal habs will be a thing this year) I think we can expect these smaller QoL improvements and technical stabilization, and as CR said, content; And it will last at least until Q1 this year until the current buggy state of 4.0 will be decently resolved. But maybe I'm too pessimissive. I'm hoping for some surprises starting from Q2.

@@XxTavoRxX But some of these may break the stability again. To be fair, this is so dumb for CIG to force themselves to repeat this loop of... fix bug, add feature that breaks everything, fix again, add feature again, fix again.

​​@@Haegemonif the game has a stable foundation with all the major bugs and factors that make the game unplayable sorted out better, when they add a feature that breaks something, it will be easier to do a HotFix. Throwing all the features in that might break the system makes it harder for the devs to track and fix. I'm not a dev, I am going by what they have said and I tend to think it sounds reasonable to me

yeah, they are all really spidewrwebbed together with depending systems affecting each other. i really hope they utilize the EPTU to let us test these systems in tandem before they try to launch them to LIVE.

Ya I agree. They have a heavy relationship with ships. Once delivered they can actually work on proper balance and tuning of individual ships and ship weapons.

Here's what's gonna happen: they'll implement this stuff (if they can even get it to work in the first place) then the servers are going to explode and the they'll dial it back to the point where it'll be mostly unnoticeable. Pretty much the same is happening with PES now, where the culling rules become stricter and stricter to keep the servers and the playspace clean.

@@AdamMorgan-p2r CIG is not making a MMO, we call it MMO, they call it the game CR wants. There is a pattern on how to make MMOs only because somebody made one before, but nowhere is written how exactly a MMO has to be. It just means Massive Multiplayer Online. SC is Online, is Multiplayer and they want it to be Massive and RPG, and CR also want it to be Cinematic. And some backers want it to be a Simulator while others want it to be an arcadish Battle Royale.

I listen to the malestrom presentation and I start to get hyped, then I realize it’s 12 years in and they can’t get elevators to work, and I’m immediately snapped back to reality. There is no shot that even half of this makes it into the game.

It would help these videos, in my opinion, if the real world year of the citizen con is on-screen. I suspect that 2953 doesn't mean a lot to casual or first time viewers.

What does any of this speculation have to do with cig claiming this year would be spent on stability and content? You know the stuff that keeps a game enjoyable. So we have no more crashing to desk top, falling through floors or elevators or even planets. Hangar doors that actually open when called. Elevators and fleet management kiosk that function as intended and so much more.

The level of performance needed from servers to calculate Maelstrom, Fire, control surfaces, armor hit/block decisions will break the already struggling servers... maybe CIG will wait till Google quantum cpus are mainstrem in 2078

7:32 this is assuming they're gonna have all buildings be like this, I don't think anyone assumes that EVERY building is going to be like this and not based on a specific location archetype. Maybe 'deserted' or 'ancient'? These i could see multiple buildings being fully destructive. But for the majority, it will probably, primarily, be the fps cover...

Buildings are inteded to be covered by the environment and decay over time of abandonment, basically player ones. Anything with NPCs will be fixed. Abandoned buildings are going to be money as shown in the 1.0 panel. For the Scrapper > Structural Salvage for Adagio Holdings. It's the best way to erase thrash from the PU.

I think the secret for Malstrom is going to be Instanced Dungeons/ quests. Keep it localize to the party that is doing the mission.

I agree. I know we're getting more unmarked poi's at some point, but if every building can be destroyed, players will just carpet bomb Pyro with nukes until they're all ruble.

@@drewbydoobydoo2918 @drewbydoobydoo2918 You forget settlements will got shields and player-made ones also will have defenses. Carpet bombing requires to dissable the defenses first and I doubt players can disable the ones in POI.

Bro, all these ppl being hyped for and clapping at SC with maelstrom and server frame rate being 5fps. Call me a disbeliever but I don't see this tech running smoothly at a big scale. These presentations might be from the game, but with how many people logged on or in vicinity? One? Zero?

Everything explained in this promotional video will quadruple the server load as well as the load our processors / GPU has to handle. At the moment (4.0 preview) the servers 'Barely' address the existing load and i prefer 'No maelstrom + destructible surfaces + armor + replacing fuses aka engineering' but more stable servers with better tick rates and less CPU load with a serious optimization.

They could have waited and made it a solid patch for new players and new money being put into the game off the hype from the biggest release they have had to date. So sure if you wanna keep them prioritising ship sales over focusing on stable builds to bring new players to the game then you do you bruh. 🤔 thousands of people haven't even been able to login to the game because the way they slung 4.0 out for a ship sale. They made short term money but they should have used the release to up their reputation instead of further crippling it. At least now you have two broken patches to play instead of one 👏👏👏👏👏

One big thing you don’t take into account is the slow development of CIG. Every patch something gets pushed back. That thing then pushes something in the next patch further out. And it keeps going further and further. Also you don’t take into account stupid shit CIG wastes time on to support Chris Robert’s random dreams. We always hear how devs simply having a short conversation with Chris, then come out with more roadmap idea’s Chris asked for.

Since ports like port tressler etc have cargo areas would it be feasible to assume they would add exterior cargo delivery areas for bigger ships?

Yes, it's feasible. It's not going to be something exclusive for Nyx. When they got it working they'll iterate in Stanton.

Level of persistence is a big question. It's not good if mission locations, outposts, distribution center persist infinitely and everything is broken in the first week.

Persistence is simulated. Registered in datasheets that are loaded when a player comes in the area according to the LOD and unloaded when nobody is around.

​@@HaegemonI think his point was that if the building is destroyed, it will persist as such on everyone's visit, so even if it only loads when we are there, it will STILL be destroyed, making the world feel like apocalypse, and there are those players that that is all they want

@@Haegemon true, we don't know the eventual decision they will make, we do know the vision CR wants of persistence, but when contending with a wide variety of human characteristics and trying to ensure that all players get to experience the world as intended may mean respawning destroyed buildings after a certain point. That however will just give the destructive player base the desire to return at the designated time to destroy it again. After all, if they know it bothers others they will get off on it.

Maelstrom is going to be a difficult thing to pull off with server meshing. That's a LOT for a database and a replication layer to handle. Especially for persistence on landscapes. They'll need to do that processing at the server, save the data, stream it to other servers, and send the information to the client. Sounds like very expensive servers.

Big issue with maelstrom system is that it will need to be synchronized between the server and all game clients. So far CIG cannot reliably solve desync issues shooting thru solid walls. They'd better not add this to the game any time soon. Maybe after 1.0.

Genuine question... Where IS all of this stuff we see in these videos. Clearly it is much further along than ''greybox'' versions as we are used to seeing in ships... these are full on locatoins that appear to be working in the game engine... so... what are they waiting for?

solar power with batteries for example. batteries are just there to store energy so if a power generator stops working youll still have time to fix it because of batteries

They cannot get a ship to shoot at another ship in space without glitching and lagging. Maelstrom is probably a very bad idea unless they can show they can get those working. Been 12 years…

If you look at life on earth we may have 100's of variations but typically in the same groups and subgroups, like Caniformia. It would be insane to think that they would need or be able to create completely different species and subspecies, at least at first, it may grow from there later

Maelstrom is ridiculous. Anybody who has worked on games knows how much processing physics take up, and there's a reason they are cheated or kept to a minimum in multi-player games. If 20-50 are in a server and there's not much being destroyed, ok. But every little single physics entity needs to be told to every client. I guarantee that this will be brought way down in scope. This is a certainly something CR demanded which nobody could tell him no, because they want to keep their job.

No way, it isn't the Starliner. The Starliner has massive wings. And I think the Starliner it's discarded until after 1.0 because large scale "passengers transport" needs to have already NPCs able to transit. Before that we'll see the Spirit variant.

Maelstrom is wasted development as it’s just not compatible with there new vision of disabled ships instead of exploding ships. Seems to me that’s the direction they will go, more focus on engineering and repairing. I don’t think we will be seeing maelstrom any time soon, especially after engineering goes live

I have the opposite take, maelstrom fits in perfectly with the idea of disabling / degrading ships + engineering. Bits of your ship breaking off, parts of your armour being eroded as you take damage sounds exactly like what they are aiming for with the idea of ships not exploding anymore doesn't it? What am I missing?

@ you can’t design a ship to both break into a 1000 pieces but also not be destroyed. They didn’t include it as a 1.0 feature, it’s not on the roadmap, it’s gettin scrapped. As soon as they said they want to switch to disabling ships instead of exploding ships, that was the nail in the coffin. You’ll see

When it comes to crafting I would imagine it wouldn’t take long to develop the actual mechanics. It is the balancing that I am afraid of. CIG is going to have to create crafting recipes for every single item in the game. On top of that they will have to go through and make stats adjust to an appropriate stat number based on material used and item level. They also have to take material quality into consideration. This is going to be the longest part of the development for crafting. Just think about MM change and how they had to go back and revisit every ships stats to set them to an archetype first, then fine tune their true stats. This is the part that most likely has taken them a very long time to do. This is why I don’t feel like we will see the final form of base building/crafting any time soon. I think we could get a basic, this building requires x number of RMC. Then when they get all the material and balancing in place, that is when we will get the final form of crafting and base building. RMC bases by the end of this year. In-depth material based base building will most likely be 2026-2027.

I've been kind of wondering, have they figured out what they want to do with C.O. there's only like three vehicles right now I think. Also the design language between the Mustang and the Nomad are so different , though I hope they go with the Nomad style more as I've never really been much of a fan of the Mustang.

I'm calling it now: maelstrom will never work like shown during citcon. It's like PES on steroids and we all know how "persistent" most things actually are after CIG noticed that it's not such a good idea to have millions of useless entities weigh down on a server. My guess: we'll get a massively stripped down version of this for ships only, all other geometry will remain static or will be destroyed with some premade trickery.

@skypatrol250 that's the issue, they waste a lot of money and dev resources on this even tho it's unnecessary and completely overengineered when all they need is penetration calculation for the ship armor stuff and engineering. The rest is completely fine if it's just premade fakery. No one cares whether that one wall or barrel explodes physically correct, it'll be culled anyway to keep entity count under control.

If any more proof is needed that CR needs reining in I don't know what is? Get this cr4p STABLE before space debris and other unnecessary server destroying garbage. Get it so hangers work, lifts don't kill, and you don't randomly fall through the world like a cheap unity game.

Have we heard much about the economy simulation and the quanta system lately?

CIG made a slide in the CItzenCon mentioning the economy simulation on their vision for 1.0. About quanta, these are nothing extraordinary, just normal NPCs that can be spawned on demand of the simulation.

What I heard of what quanta was supposed to be a fancy backend to jiggle prices within set ranges in response to player market activity or global events.

@@benthomson1132 TonyZ finished his tasks back in the day. He had to made a predictive algorithm, and he did. It's just not plugged in. Such algorithm identifies patterns and relationships within the data, enabling predictions to trigger proper reactions. But it's useless if there isn't reliable data or a system to collectcthat data. Obviously if most of the game loops aren't finished and the AI is still failing, it makes no sense to activate the simulation.

@@4tonmike yes, it's a backend. They called it Quantum back in the day, but it was confusing and now is just StarSim. Quanta was the name given to the virtually simulated entities responsible to highlight the simulated patterns.

only believe it when you see it working. Also if it's a half-assed implementation, they didn't really deliver it either. You should expect maybe 50% of what they said they'll deliver.

38:39 that is actually NOT the guardian. The wings are too curved while the guardian wings are straight. Also the lights on the guardian are in a different spot.

It is the guardian. You can make that outline happen in game. People need to stop the silly theory crap. The lights moved. They show them in shadow because change can happen.

SC base building is more on the factorio/satisfatory side than minecraft "7 days to die" side it seems. I'm perfectly fine with it, I play SC to pew pew in space not to stay planetside

all these pve industrial features are going to be useless in an mmo that tells you to stay away from other players, and when you do meet other players, shoot first, its completely broken

Even moreso when the economy was previously being marketed being a 9:1 NPC to player ratio, industry players would've been completely unnecessary and only inviting constant ambushes. They might as well move those mechanics to a new game and market it as a future separate project.

I have to press retrieve on the terminal like 15 times to get my ship. I have to spent 8 minutes trying to request a hangar. They should stick that sand worm up their asses instead. Why not just upload the UE5 project file instead? This game is a broken piece of trash.

Strange, I tried 4.0 yesterday for the first time Never had SC feel so responsive. Button presses work immediately, hangar requests instantly Few stutters but that’s it for me

Just add the features and worry about stability later. Every update is going to break the game. And the more features added, the bigger the break. Its becoming a waste of time constantly worrying about an unfinished game is playable.

Nah, CIG needs a playable game because people are getting tired of paying a janky tech demo. CIG doesn't have infinite vaults full of money, and so they need to make money, and if they need to make money, they need to provide a product that people are willing to pay for. As of right now, only big fans of the game are willing to deal with jank and bugs. The common folk are still avoiding the game because of the stability and bugs.

2024 was their 2nd highest earning year. I doubt they'll have any incentive to address jank other than lip service from the last letter from the chairman.

People always crying that nothing is possible because servers because this because that.. Technology leaps forward..don't forget that...back on my younger days a 1 mb internet was for rich people.. Today im rocking 10gb connection..yes i download 1gb per second and its not even close to the fastest available in China..
