These guys don't understand what Tier 0 means. Mining isn't the only thing that's not tier 0. Since Cargo hauling was introduced, they added physicalized inventory, physicalized cargo, cargo hauling tools, freight elevators, cargo grids, cargo missions, etc. Since salvage was introduced they added crafting, different sized boxes, breaking ships, disintegrating ships, weapon salvaging, salvage missions, etc. While perhaps not the final 1.0 implementation it's FAR from their Tier 0 implementation. Get it right.

The biggest point behind one material rocks in mining is remove randomness... The end goal is that find different materials in more logical spots, say one kind of mineral that shows up around eroded river spots, one on mountain peeks etc. If you know the lay of the land it should be easier to find specific things.

@12:10 Regarding instancing. This really shows the lack of foresight on CIG's part. Instancing is, for the most part, supposed to reduce network utilization by having your "world" isolated, reducing or eliminating other extraneous data streaming to your PC from other player's game activities thereby optimizing network utilization. Case in point, the instanced hangars. As it is currently, you can still see from the map view when you are in your hangar, what everyone else is doing in your "isolated" instance. What this means is that for each (ghost) player in the hangar, they would have their own ships, riser-platform, storage elevators, hangar gates, boxes, and all their associated coordinate data etc., still streaming to your PC. And if we consider that over ten to twenty pilots can exist in a space station (e.g. Seraphim station) retrieving their ships and messing around with boxes, that's a lot of extraneous data you don't need about them (and they don't need about you). Not only does the current way defeat the purpose of network optimization, a negative side-effect is that the physics and audio systems that used to work globally, now need to be patched to work conditionally. Like, disable visibility, physics and audio for all entities that don't belong to John when he is in his instanced hangar. Or some nasty programming like that. Maybe it's just me (I used to install/setup multi-node, realtime video-conferencing systems) but it seems evident to me that they (CIG) didn't really take good care in planning for "proper" instancing in all the years of SC development. One would think that they would take scalability very seriously from the get go right? I mean, the significant savings in network utilization alone would have had enough priority and importance that none of the hangar instance issues we experience today would have even occured -- for any service with massively scalable aspirations.

Another big problem is the lack of ship tracking. We now have several ships that can act as motherships but they are completely useless for that because you lose the marker as soon as you get out of radar or scanner range with you snub. This alone is holding so much emergent group, org and exploration game play back. That single feature would open the game up to so many new possibilities. Why CIG are not taking care of this is a complete mystery to me. This could literally change the way this game is played. And we had that before. We could even QT to party markers anywhere in space. The tech is not the problem. We are waiting for our connie's snubs to become part of the exploration game play ever since the Conny is for sale. That is my biggest disappointment.

Redeemer in dogfights? If it says "Gunship" expect it to be heavily armed and fly like a cow. Redeemer was supposed to be agile and look what we got. This will not be different for the Palladin. They always try to compensate firepower with lack of agility. When it comes to multicrew, there is no problem as long as there is enough equivalent opportunities for solo players, which, as multiple studies suggest, make more than half the player base and even more when it comes to players over 50, of which we have many in SC and there will be many more because of demographics and the extended development time of SC. The only real problem is, that many players have bought larger ships because CIG didn't make it clear that they will effectively useless for solo players. Look at the Carrack commercial. It misleads you to think this was a solo player home base...

CIG should really just poll the community what professions they want (now) and get on them. Doesn't make sense to work on stuff people don't want as much. UNLESS they think working on something not as many people want now will bring in a whole new crowd of players. I wish they would be more open what professions are being concentrated on and which ones are further along. Regarding jumping in points I decided to jump in with 4.0 with the huge addition of Pyro. Though I haven't been in game much. Been setting up stuff up, HOTAS, head tracking, etc. Out of all the times to jump in this seemed like the best time yet. However those that have been playing for years would know more than me.

You were on the right track with the instancing. They aren't doing actual instancing from what I can tell where the hangar is on it's own game server using it's own resources. So currently it isn't truly instanced but more likely we could call it virtually instanced. Because it shares the resources of the gameserver and the other hangars it is likely that is partly why we have the bleeding effect from other hangars and what not, as well as they will be impacted by resource usage throughout the server it resides on. But in the future with SM now they could potentially do truly instanced hangars, but guess we'll see. I think the current reference of instanced is a bit cart before the horse or it's the loose representation other game platforms are using.

The next big thing is Maelstrom because Maelstrom is the destructibility and how things brake. This is not only good for combat but also for resource gathering, whether that's Mining, farming, hunting, whatever but of course the reverse of that is the system for repairing & building thus Crafting & Engineering. The other thing is in the presentations it seemed like each of the professions will have 3-4 specialisations. So for example resource gathering could have specialisations of ore mining, gas collections, salvaging, farming & hunting of which balanced to the trade system would have rewards based on 'supply & demand'. and they would feed into crafting profession with its specialisations of arms manufacture, parts manufacture, drugs maker and cook. But as things degrade they have to be repaired via Engineering with its specialisations of mechanic, system optimiser, medic, etc which also requires materials gathered by resource gathering profession generating demand and completing the game loops. Point is that once Maelstrom is a part of the game that allows things to be broken down for combat & resource gathering or put together for crafting & repairs completing game loops. Just as we where waiting on server meshing, we are now waiting on Maelstrom.

If we are in a global event and a group of player pirates come to shoot everybody, then these are ruining the experience for all the other players. First because they are out of context with the event and by extension out of the Lore of that event. And second because they're only there to ruin other peoples game and have fun over this fact, which is like trolling. If the event allows to join as defender of the A.I faction, then is legit. But it's different than shoot to everything.

Content to me are missions and assets. A new planetary system is content, many missions from the panel for 1.0 are content also and do not require extra features to be incorporated. Patrol missions for example. Kill/Save VIP missions, some of the sports missions....etc. On the opposite side there are features like player skills, control surfaces, crafting, stun & capture, customizable hangars, base building, weather... Stuff that the game cannot do currently without adding new mechanics to the game.

17:30 - Something I’m really hoping won’t change is the ability to enjoy gameplay without being forced into interactions with tryhards or large groups that dominate everything. Right now, Star Citizen offers ways to engage in gameplay on your own terms, and I’d hate to see that ruined by massive orgs monopolizing certain parts of the game. Zergs / Orgs / Large groups have the potential to lock away entire gameplay loops or resources, making it nearly impossible for small teams or solo players to compete. This already happens in games like Rust, where large clans dominate servers, raiding smaller groups with ease. You don’t just lose the battle-you lose hours of effort that are funneled into the war chests of big orgs. Eventually, you’re left with no real options except getting wiped out or quitting entirely. I worry that if this dynamic plays out in Star Citizen, entire regions of the game could become gated behind org control. For players who don’t have the time to invest in an org or don’t want to deal with zerg-style gameplay, that would be a huge loss.
@Haegemon23 сағат бұрын
Beware of those who want too much EVE in SC. The only Orgs valid to control a zone, to me, are the ingame factions. Player Orgs should be aligned with one of those, so if you're friendly to that faction Engine-driven, any Player Org with them shouldn't be allowed to harm you without a lose with that faction. In fact, you should appear to them as friendly or neutral.
@wraith51180200322 сағат бұрын
CR has stated an as many lead devs have ack, that SC wont be a player driven Universe. That most the time players wont make much impact. You are part of a living universe, a flea on a dogs back not really able to do much to the verse. Outnumbers 10-1. That means you cant effect change without supporting the NPC who want the change.

I want to believe that they will, but with their ever expanding need to force multi-crew on every single ship bigger than a fighter (and smaller if you include the ROC-DS), I am skeptical that they will preserve meaningful solo play beyond the starter loops, which would be fatal for the game on launch.

the new events are just overly dragged out, ie. the xeno mission and save satnton. i dont want to do 6 of the same bunkers over and over just to get the information you could have gotten the first time. they could have had this done at a distro centre, or orison platforms or other place. they are big enough to have all the information or fights to be at. and scattered the tasks out that are needing to be found or done.

Arena Commander will never suffice to meet the promise of private servers. Those of us who are interested in that aren't even looking for the entire back end to be there like CIG thinks when they tell us we'd never be able to run it; we're looking for something like ourselves and our friends on what would be at most two DGS at a time running, say, mining operations to and from the base we built. We're not looking to wander around the entire game with thousands of other players we don't even know; we want our small group to affect OUR world without some jerk with an A2 or a Polaris coming along and burning off some ordnance for kicks. We're not even opposed to PvP. We just don't want the random people coming along to gank/grief everyone in sight.

I built my new first new computer since 2012 based on TP42's recommendations (5800x3d, 32gb ram, yadda yadda) and it runs Star Citizen fantastic. I built an entire computer around just playing SC. I bought an Aurora starter package. And there was damn near nothing I could do to just PLAY the game. I upgraded to a Cutter so I could at least do box missions more easily. Now in 4.0, starting with a Cutter and there is still SO LITTLE TO FRIGGIN DO. Basically the starters exist to fly you immediately to a place where you can rent a ship that's ACTUALLY USEFUL, or you can spend real cash to upgrade your upgraded upgrade ship. I don't understand how utterly pointless this game is for actual beginners with no experience and a starter ship. A designer was paid to make the game so that your FIRST cargo hauling contract is for 9-11 SCU when NONE of the starters can handle that. Why are there not a whole series of starter cargo missions for 1-4 SCU? How does it benefit the game in any conceivable way to make them 9-11 SCU? Why is it that the "Very Low Risk" bounty missions are still way more than a beginner in a 2 gun Aurora can handle? How is a new player supposed to LEARN how to do ship combat when they're dead in seconds on the "easiest" missions? How is it that the Space Ports at Lorville, Hursten, etc don't have permanent HUD beacon markers telling you where the hell they are? When I'm on a planet my screen is bloody FILLED with useless red markers showing me all the places I CAN'T fly to. And yet, the most important places where they should have beacons.... they DON'T?!?! Now in 4.0 they decided it was time to fix that, so they added a stupid light to mark the location? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? People are getting paid good money to make these utterly idiotic decisions ON PURPOSE. How? HOW? HOOOOOOOWWWW?!?!?! I want to love this game so much. It's all the things I love. But I can't just sit here and let this game continually punch me in the face. I just have to stop. It's time to move on a play other things. This just isn't worth it.
@latjolajban8123 сағат бұрын
Because the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. One team is getting the order to make something cool. A cool ship or whatever. The team working on missions and systems get the order to make a system for upgrades. And the animation team gets order to make animation for going in and out the ship. They don't talk to each other. So we get ships where you can't change the components because the door is too small to get it out. And they have to redo the ships because the ship team was not getting any metrics for going in and out the pilot seat. Or ships with no gameplay and when the gameplay comes out it's a very simplified version of what we were told. It's like that all the time.

I have to take some cues from elite dangerous here. I've been playing a little bit more since 4.0 ended up being without missions for me. Reputation is a huge factor in the game, from custom ATC messages. You've got a high reputation in that system, to the response time of local factions coming to help you if you get attacked. High reputation means a faction response in seconds versus minutes if you've got a lower reputation or not at all. The factions are interesting too, you have an empire and a federation, but you also have hundreds of offshoots of different federation factions or imperial factions. So you might go to a system and do work to gain reputation for an imperial subsect for example. I think the soldiering thing is a great idea, and again the way elite dangerous does. It is interesting. Interesting. If you go to a system that has two factions in conflict, you can essentially sign up with Frontline services, choose a faction to fight for, get an npc taxi over to the Battle zone, and then fight a capture the flagstyle engagement against NPCs or any other players that signed up in the same area. There are possibilities with the systems they have now, to do some of this stuff. You could sign up for a war zone in crusader and fight between crusader security and the nine tails for example. I think it's also possible that if you got enough reputation with crusader security doing bounties or mercenary missions, that something from that faction could turn up and help you if you got interdicted or into a combat. Going back to Star citizen properly now. It's only been recently that having a CS5 from killing security forces, resulted in hammerheads turning up at Port olisar. They used to be a time where you could guarantee there would be two to five hammerheads from the UEE Navy just hanging outside. There are systems that have been overwritten and replaced over time that seemed insignificant or unfinished but had meaning and gameplay implications that have just kind of been lost now and would work really well to make Stanton feel like a proper secure location

There really needs to be some reputation system, because when I'm bringing cargo for some mission to an outpost and someone kills me or even pulls a gun... they should drop reputation and be the target for locals of that outpost. It is downright ridiculous that someone can just clip you at the cargo elevator and face zero repercussions. The player who does that should first of all lose the ability to sell your cargo at that outpost, so he or she HAS to move it somewhere else after fighting of the first line of defense (losing more reputation as you kill more from that faction that just turned hostile). There simply HAS to be a negative feedback loop for this kind of "PvP", praying on defenseless people should not be rewarded at all.
@sjoerКүн бұрын
And hey, maybe the Headhunters have some villagers that are high on drugs (you see the gray faces) and they will respond slower... but there should at least be some form of response to aggression at outposts. When I start my own village? I will enforce a no gun policy inside the walls!
