1st: Starlink needs to fix the speed problems. It has been slow lately in Northern Michigan. I was getting 300/30 and now just 50/14. What is going on? It is 4am and everyone is sleeping. I need 30 upload for work.

And our other options are Internet over TV cable, if you happen to have a connection to your house, or the good old copper phone cable. Which is unbearable. 30 - 40 ms sounds very acceptable to me.

@@MooseTurder The fastest I could get before starlink was something called NBN fixed wireless. It was giving me 15/4 most of the time, it's rated for up to 70/20. However it's heavily congested and the ping was about 40ms. So starlink is a big improvement over that.

i been following u for a few years now, and have installed the sat Gen 2 on the pole over my pond..woods of Maine.. here down a mile dirt road, there are 21 cabins. i live here year round, every year, my neighbors show up in spring and ask about internet.. i say "star link".. but its still too enpensive for them..( at The Bangor Maine BestBuy) plus lots and lot of trees that have to be expensively cut trimmed.. so... i run a few lines and "tplink wireless" for them during the summer months ( all learned from your tp link videos and omada ) and HAVE NO LAG.. i hope Elon boost this!!!, it will be awesome! i love ur vids! dont stop! my neighbors even chip in $ DURING THE SUMMER FOR INTERNET AND THEY EVEN CAN STREAM tv ETC.. NO LAG.. i love it ! Gen2 on a pole over the pond !

Satellites are NOT operating under constant thrust, so they do not use fuel as you suggest. Fuel is used to maintain position - it is the speed (coasting) which generates centrifugal force equal to the gravitational force in balance. JR

Low orbit problem it is not gravity, it is atmosphere. Less cover it is not a problem, it is opportunity to increase speed of a channel. Low orbit it is ability to decrease of square your transfer spot on Earth => increasing customers on same square in average

Not me. I see the high rates as an investment in SpaceX's future. They need that money to get to Mars and to build out their Starlink network. That isn't cheap, so I don't expect to be cheap about it. I just expect top tier service, and thankfully that's exactly what I get. I'll optimize everything else to work with Starlink rather than the other way around.

Speaking from personal experience, Starlink is reliable even in a moving vehicle all the way down to Oklahoma City at least, And even in Dallas Texas, I was able to achieve a reliable and fast connection by placing my Starlink dish outside. At least, it was reliable and fast enough that my Nintendo switch seemed to not have an issue with it when playing Mario Kart 8. I also classify it as a 300 megabit service at the moment. This makes it a pricey option, but I think the intangibles that go with this service far outweigh any of its downsides.

I was hopefully waiting on prices for the Starlink Mini to drop to Latin American levels. Out of the blue AT&T sprang Internet Air on me. $60.58, no price increase in 12 months, no overage charges, up to 20 devices, free equipment! Sounded too good to be true but I've been up and running for a few days now and I can stream 4k 24/7. Thank you AT&T. If you are rural, look into it.

Regulatory issues are going to plague Starlink unfortunately. I hate that. Do i need gigabit Internet? No. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't ne an option for those of us that have decided to live in rural areas. I still don't see any companies running fiber or fat copper down the road around these parts.

An observation: Lower orbit does decrease latency. It also increases signal strength (the "smaller cone"), and atmospheric drag. The increased gravitational pull is offset by increased orbital speed. (See atmospheric drag.)

Starlink slowed down in my neck of the woods, sometimes down to 60 down and 13 up. If i am lucky, Isee 130 down and 20 up. Now here comes Spectrum. 1 Gig down, 1 Gig up with 2 phone lines for 100 bucks/month for 2 years. Getting hooked up this month on the 25th. Wonder if i can pause the Spacelink account insted of canceling it.

That's not bad latency. I see about 20ms ping to "very near" locations on cable. But that easily stretches to over 50ms depending on server location. If I could get over 10 mbs up, and 200+ down, with a 20ms ping? My only question is whether it's going to cost less than cable. The prices look "slightly" high... could be worth $20/mo to just not do business with the cable company anymore. South Park sums up my opinion of the local wire... Hmmm

The lower altitude issue is not stronger gravity it is atomosperic drag. Even the space station has atomospheric drag.

Probably around a hundred, but that’s not going to happen for around a year. SpaceX is not trying to go to orbit soon. Everyone keeps saying oh it’s gonna be the next launch, but that’s only the fans that want that. Not space X. They are not interested in going to our orbit until they get all the cans worked out with the starship and that’s nowhere near. People are getting excited prematurely. As long as starship comes down burning., it doesn’t matter if it comes down in the correct place. It has to come down perfectly.

@@davidcolwell614 So what you're saying is that SpaceX can't launch satellites right now because the Starship is not coming down without getting burned? So, it's not possible to put some satellites onboard of the Starship and then release them into orbit? Whatever happens to the Starship after it releases the satellites doesn't matter anymore IMO. It'll be the same as if they were launching a Falcon 9 with second stage. As of right now and ever since IFT-3, the Starship is making it to orbit so I don't see as to why they wouldn't start loading the Starship up with some satellites to test that portion out. After all, they've been testing everything by trial and error, so I'll not be surprised if they even attempt to load some satellites on IFT-6!

Faster is cool but you only "need" 25Mbps sure if you gamer or a house full of teens & gamers more speed is nice, Netflix recommends a minimum download speed of 25 Mbps for 4K streaming. If you want to watch 4K on multiple devices at the same time, you might want to consider an internet plan with speeds of at least 100 Mbps.

It’s shameful how providers like Xfinity and AT&T make big promises but don’t deliver SHIT. Meanwhile, SpaceX’s Starlink program is just starting and already planning to provide 1-gig speeds. Xfinity, on the other hand, still struggles to offer reliable 1 gig up and down, not to mention their terrible customer support. I really hope SpaceX brings a 1-gig network soon so I can drop Xfinity for good! #xfinity
