The space race isn’t just rockets and satellites-it’s a high-stakes showdown between two of the world’s richest men, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk. But now, the competition is heating up in ways no one expected: Musk’s political ties to the Trump administration are raising questions about fairness, while Bezos fights to prove that Blue Origin can compete with SpaceX’s dominance. With billions at stake and the future of space exploration hanging in the balance, this isn’t just a race-it’s a battle for legacy. That's a misnomer. There is no space race.... Musk is attempting to colonize Mars, Starlink is the financing mechanism to pay for Mars colonization. Everyone else is attempting to plagiarize Musk so they can make money stealing some of the market he created...Which is why they all keep losing, Musk's goal is to have his name remembered 1,000 years from now by being the guy who colonized Mars. By comparison their small minded goals of making a bunch of money copying Musk are just too narrow. Musk's goal is too grand for them imagine is possible and their goals are too small for Musk to waste his time on.

SpaceX already launched some test sats for kuiper once. But only because the board of investors threatened to sue Bezos if he didn't. Though I appreciate the competition in all services we have access to, I’m not a big Bezos fan. I’m rooting for Musk and his companies to be and stay the leader in this space world. Appreciate you initiating this thought and conversation.
I do not think BO is a direct competitor to Space X, it like comparing apples to oranges. BO was not set up to scale for 100+ launches a year an high volume refurbishment of booster and B4 engines at this point in time. If BO goal is to do this, a rapid reuse of B4 engines and boosters it will be some time after 2034. It all about timing and profit ROI.

@professorg8383Ай бұрын
Yeah, Bezos has never been someone to copy what someone else is doing. His success has been from doing something different and changing the game completely. Bezos has run a real business that makes tons of money and has on inherent weaknesses. One could argue that Bezos run a fully integrated economy while Musk is really only playing in a couple risky, low return sectors. Bezos has literally billions of loyal customers where as Musk only has his groupies who provide him with next to zero income. Having a cult following has its merits, but it really doesn't make you much money! Starlink provides some revenue from around 4 million customers, only about a third of that in the US and even then, there is zero proof that it can ever provide a return on the investment and actually make money. None of Musk's cult is spending money on satellite launches. Musk has Tesla which is a real company, but it is over valued by by at least 30 times which means it could crumble overnight and it's dancing on the edge today. SpaceX may have up to around $220 billion in investment and its contract revenues may be up around $15 billion, but not annually. If you look at total annual revenues, it's less than $10 billion and it's debatable that any of that is profit. If any of it is, it's not likely to be 1% of the total asset valuation! That does not begin to cover depreciation and/or inflation. SpaceX is mostly smoke and mirrors financially. On the other hand, Bezos generates real numbers and real profit. I'll bet on Bezos!

I can honestly say there is no circumstance where I would pay for Kuiper service. It is the hardest no I can imagine. Using Starlink supports Musk's vision to make humanity multiplanetary. It is the basis for his plan to finance Mars colonization. Bezos's vision to someday generations from now build giant space stations seemingly for rich people like him... Like in the 2013 Matt Damon movie Elysium is beyond unappealing. No Bezos should quit plagiarizing Musk and find his own way to finance his space dreams I want no part of his vision.
@chilzone966Ай бұрын
I beg to differ. "The Space Race" is only part of a technology race between USA vs China. Even Europe including Russia is falling behind with India coming up. Bezos & Musk just happen to come into the line of sight because of Boeings & ULA failures. Kuiper is moving slow because Blue Horizon is working under this pressure of failure. SpaceX, we know grows from failure. BH will have some growth from failure, but will be set back a couple of years, rather than months.

The facts are BO is 7 years behind SpaceX on deploying Kuiper. They have shown no indication they have a viable sat to deploy on anyone's rocket let alone their own rocket and they have no vehicle capable of competing with Starship. Which Starship is on track to be about 3 orders on magnitude cheaper than New Glenn and have at least 2 orders of magnitude, possibly 3 orders of magnitude faster launch tempo. Chance are high shareholders force Amazon to cancel Kuiper.

@@JamesSpencer-f7u Being generous, and assuming for the sake of argument that the various contracted Kuiper launchers can each loft 40 Kuiper satellites in one go, that will be 40 launches or so to be conducted inside 18 months before June.July 2026. Assuming that that number of vehicles can be built in that time; assuming that there is 100% success per launch; assuming no satellites de-orbit naturally in that time. And that is just 50% of the touted number of 3,200, which is still 50% of Starlink's current number, which grows every couple of days. Sounds a bit of an exaggeration to think this could ever be 'competition'.

BO has to get 1/2 of their satellites up by July 30, 2026. I’m curious to find out how many can fit in new Glenn. If they can lift 50% more than a falcon and their sats weigh similar to starlink v2 minis, that’s 47 launches. No other single provider has launched that many in 18 months and I don’t think the US excluding SpaceX has done that many in the recent past.

Jeff B had enough business knowledge to start Amazon and to grow it (Books, retail, cloud, etc.), but Elon has a higher risk tolerance than Jeff and he is skilled assessing risk. Additionally he has shown a willingness to get his hands dirty when things go off track (remember production hell). Because of Elon's mindset and engineering knowledge, he can dig very deep to assess approaches to engineering and business problems. Remember: Elon has said that SpaceX almost went bankrupt (Tesla also). It's a hard business to get into especially with SpaceX securely in it. IMHO for Blue Origin needs to develop a better launch vehicle to succeed: a highly dependable rocket that costs at least as low as Falcon 9 to operate. SpaceX's increasing launch cadence illustrates the Falcon 9 dependability and capitalizes on the fact that currently no rocket can compete on price. But if Jeff focuses only on competing with Falcon 9, he risks missing the boat if Starship is able to dramatically reduce launch costs and maintain reliability.
@pops99Ай бұрын
Never going to happen. The only way BO can do this is if they use their own rockets and they are being developed at a snail’s pace or slower. About the time BO figures out the rocket part of it SpaceX will just drop the monthly subscription fee on Starlink and destroy BO’s payback. Jeff will show up at the party with too little and way too late.
