BTW was starship fully loaded with fuel? If it was empty, used all fuel and reached this speed was it enough to launch starlinks? To escape earth they need speed around 40000 km/h. Got only +-27000 but used all fuel.

NOT SURE: hotstaging is not to lose speed. I see a speed drop, so we have wait if it was a full success. Also, why do we still have debris on stage 0. Was it concrete flying at launch? What was the part flying inside starship, was it a structural damage? Did the speed and altitude of empty starship reach what is necessary for starlink launch? ChatGPT says that no. But maybe it's not an issue. Also, we lost tiles again on launch. It's not good, as it's not good it takes so much time to stack stages after a few years of staking tests. I am writing this to balance the narration and ask people who may know better.

@@TeensierPythonit’s remarkable because this is a private company not a government project. This is how true innovation should occur. Not wrapped up in the red tape and absolute joke of overspending that NASA uses to get stuff done. Go look into the extremely embarrassing effort to build the SLS (which is made of mostly reusable components from the space shuttle to make it specifically cheaper and easier to produce). Look at the fantastic price overruns and time delays for a completely disposable rocket. From a taxpayer perspective this is a massive win. From a science lover perspective it’s also a massive win. Then look at the sheer innovation of SpaceX to make a fully reusable ship that is a fraction of the cost to produce and fly. We did go to the moon a long time ago. But we’re just now reaching a point in time where going to the moon can become affordable and more frequent. Likely setting up research bases sort of like Antarctica but on our moon! And from the moon we can start understanding ways of getting to other planets. This flight at first glance may look like a failure but it is the furthest thing from failure. Every time this flys and does a bit better it’s a huge success!

What an awesome launch. Given that the Starlink antennas are on top when properly oriented for re-entry it will be interesting to see if there is no blackout on a successful reentry. It was a pretty good connection that seemingly only ended due to breakup.

IIRC the Shuttle had a pretty good connection all the way through reentry due to TDRSS. It should be a similar thing given that the plasma is mostly below the spacecraft rather than above it.

Booster exploded for unknown reasons, barreling at supersonic speed toward the ocean, while the upper stage spun out of control with a jammed door and leaked fuel into space. Then the raptors didn't relight and the whole thing burned up in the atmosphere. This was NOT a success.

Steps back would imply something that was working and now it's not anymore. I don't think that applies to anything on starship yet. Even if the booster return is similar to that of a Falcon 9, it's on a much different scale so I still consider that as completely new. @@MarcusHouse No, most of them are realistic and not caught up in the excessive excitement of failed engineering. The successes you mention are minor compared to the significant failures: the engines did not perform as they should throughout the flight (absolutely essential), both vessels became uncontrollable (absolutely essential), the ship lost many tiles (absolutely essential), the cargo door malfunctioned (absol... well you get the idea). Glad to be a pain in the arse.

Marcus is lying to you at 6:57. They didn't, and no one ever would, shut down engines asymmetrically in order to give it a spin. Spinning in space is a death knell for a ship such as this. The only spin is Marcus suggesting this to turn another failure into a perceived success.

The part I find incredible, is that the ship was rolling at reentry, yet the stainless steel held up, this gives me great hope that even with missing TPS it will survive reentry next time.

One thing I would note about the plasma footage is the speed telemetry, how the ship was decelerating at only a few km/h per second, while a typical manned reentry could pull around 3g. What we were seeing was just barely the beginning of reentry effects.

The reentry footage is absolutely awesome. I actually think this is the first time we have ever seen the surfaces on such a large orital vehicle that are directly in the plasma stream. Depite the shuttle flying for decades, we never got something like that from it. It´s really awesome to fially get to see how it actually looks outside of computer simulations and the glimpes from protected cameras with less then great viewing angles.

A few things I noticed, did you see that rocket going to Mach1 so fast? The mind boggles, than hot staging, and that shot from the ship with the booster in the background, amazing, and that re-entry, wauw what an aggressive environment. A big success for me.

I feel like the ship had almost no RCS control? like the valve was stuck open and that's why we see a lot of smoke spewing out from somewhere on the video. Notice how there was hardly any control authority when it kept tumbling during the initial part of re-entry? it was absolutely critical that all of the peak heating take place on the tile side. But we can clearly see on the video that the ship was side slipping on one side, exposing the stainless steel and under the engine skirt towards the plasma stream.

One thing that surprised/impressed me is how long Booster held up during the re-entry with so much of the hull that wasn't covered with heat tiles taking the brunt of the heat.
