Its what they do when forging metal you know when it glows and is quenched in oil or water. If the temperature difference between hot metal and cooled down metal is big and the change fast enough it creates micro fissures as well as destroying desired attributes of the alloy.

There are two reuse cases refurbishment similar to falcon-9 where it goes back to factory and full reusability where it ready to launch after cursory inspection, hopefully it will be an automated proceedure.
