Spaghetti and Meat Sauce Ingredients
1 Tablespoon oil
1 cup diced onion
1/2 cup diced green pepper (optional)
3 Roma tomatoes, diced
8 ounce can tomato paste
15 ounce can petite diced tomatoes
1 Tablespoon garlic, minced
1 Tablespoon oregano OR Italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 pound ground beef
1/2 to 1 pound pasta
In a large skillet or sturdy pot, heat oil. When its just hot, pour in onion and spread it out over the bottom of the pan. (If you're using the green peppers, add them right now and cook them with the onions.) Set timer for 3 minutes. Stir onions at least once before the timer goes off.
When the timer goes off, scrape onions to one side of the pan and pour diced tomatoes on the other side of the pan. Cook for three minutes, then scrape the vegetables close together and place the tomato past in the pan, flattening it so that most of it makes contact with the pan. Cook three minutes. Add garlic and cook three minutes. Sprinkle in oregano (OR Italian seasoning) and the pepper. Stir to combine and cook for a minute or two.
Scrape everything in the hot pan to one side and drop the ground beef onto the empty side of the pan and break it up as it cooks. When ground beef is cooked through and broken up, stir everything in the pan together. Cover the pan with a lid and turn the heat down to low.
Meanwhile, fill a large pot with two quarts of water and heat it until it's boiling. When it boils, pour in the pasta, stir it to keep it from being sticky and add 1 teaspoon of salt to the pot. Cook on medium-high temperature for 13 minutes. When the pasta is done cooking, drain it in a colander. Turn off the meat sauce and enjoy your meal!
