Thank you for the news update Stuart. I've been watching the effects of the DANA storms on mainstream Spanish news channels and the scenes are both terrifying and heartbreaking. I do hope the storms start to recede and that no more lives are lost. It appears that the emergency services are doing a fantastic job.

Yeah... we live in Valencia (la Ciudad), and we're ok. In areas just outside the city, though, it's quite bad. I also saw videos about devastation in both Malaga and Murcia - in Almeria, one can find videos of golfball-sized hail destroying cars.

Having just moved to the Gandia area in September it was great to see the storm, but it turned into something much worse than a light show as we are all too aware of now. Our thoughts are with those who didn't survive, still missing and have been severely affected. Nature at full force.

Hola stu and guests. Prayers to the people in the valencian communities. Hopefully the weather people will note high altitude cold air approaching low altitude warm air and develop a better system to forecast the intensity of a coming dana. Good to see crime overall has gone down in spain, despite a higher rate in barcelona compared to madrid. I was under the impression, spain is quite safe compared to other cities despite some pickpocketing in tourists areas.

I lived in Valencia and attended the University of Valencia as a Foreign Exchange Student. I often dream of returning as a senior. Would be my 4th return. I was so surprised to hear the turmoil due to the heavy rain. I also learned of Castellon de la Plana from this KZbin Channel as a potential place to return. I read where it was affected as well? Sad and such a beautiful city. I have the best memories of my life living there, returning several times. Even during Franco's regime, I enjoyed it. Just hope the recovery is swift for all of those affected.

Yep. About 10 years ago we had the same levels (interior of Alicante province) I have a well (that usually doesn’t have much water) that began sprouting water like a fountain, landslides etc. Fortunately wasn’t as tragic by far as it usually aren’t these episodes (except when the Tous damn broke). I wonder what happened. Bad dry waterway maintenance?

Re pub meals, the person was talking about chains and he’s no doubt right. However there are thousands of pubs in the UK which are not part of a chain and some serve extremely good food, at a price of course often. Local pubs are under threat since the pandemic so some have upped the quality of their food offering to attract custom. Some, sadly, are more like restaurants because of the challenges they face nowadays

Considering the dana effects, considering the national help valencia will now need, is the catalans community reconsidering their demands for financial separation. With their mediterranean coastline producing warm air and the inability to control cold air in the higher atmosphere just maybe they ought to keep their financial ties to spain intact just for national emergencies.

I'm in the hills around Granada, and used to Autumn weather with heavy rain and the resulting landslides and rock falls. However, I've never seen storms like we had these past few days. The rain was biblical, and almost continuous thunderstorms for 48 hours. Terrible. Some of the villages lower down the valley have flooded but most of the water has drained into the nearby reservoir. No lives lost, either, but still dreadful for those affected. I fear the death toll will rise as rescue workers get access to places.

I did find food in the UK in restaurants when I was there for three weeks in 2019 to be very heavy and not very healthy. I did find the food in Spain to be lighter and healthier though we all know fried food is not healthy and lots of heavy meat , at least that is what I learned in nutrition courses I took for Acupuncture and my doctorates in Natural Health and Bioenergetic Medicine.

Interesting comment about the Police & only loved when needed. As a life long profession as a Policeman (Yes, as a female I have No problem calling myself Policeman. Just simplier that way), I’ve noticed a bit of difference between the USA & Spain. I never had any trouble in the USA, but while in Spain (as a tourist) heard & saw several times people disrespecting cops. Was told it was the distrust due to a holdover from Franco’s time. (?)

We live in Rota, on the Atlantic coast across the bay from Cadiz and we just received a weather warning for torrential rains tonight. Idk about the “menú del día”. As a Spaniard that had to eat it on a daily basis for work reasons I got thoroughly tired of any combination, any restaurant, Spanish food or others and any homemade meal (“comida casera”) option they offered (their home meals perhaps not mine 😂). There are certain odors on some on such places that only smelling them makes sick 😂. I can eat a menu del dia and some are quite good, or a montaditos or whatever, but each then and a while.Idk what it is I become so sensitive to they do on those kitchens that we don’t do at home but it makes me sick if I have to eat out too often. On the other hand, my pub experience in the Midlands was very good. Loved the food. Ok, it was a novelty, not enough time to get tired of it, and those wonderful, marvelous, delicious ales perhaps have something to do with the smile I have with the memory 😂.

The press needs to stop exaggerating! Valencia is a province comprising three parts: to the South is Alicante, to the North, Castillon with Valencia city being the capital. However, the major flooding and damage done to properties happened in the villages and in towns surrounding the capital city to the south and to the north of the city but Valencia city, I repeat, the city has not been flooded and does not compare to the flooding of 1957. sadly people have lost their lives.
