Stu, an excellent video of Brihuega, and what a clean and well kept town it is. Credit to the local council and residents. The lavender fields are magnificent when they are in full flower. Thanks Stu.

SStuart, what a lovely town. Spotless and no graffiti. I would expect that it's not the cheapest place to live. It looks like a place I would quite like to visit. Shame the locals are antipaticos. Great broadcast Stuart and thank you for sharing it with us. 😀👍

My daughter and family went to Brihuega in early July this year when the lavender festival was on. She said the whole town smelled wonderfully of lavender and the streets we festooned with lavender coloured drapes and upside down umbrellas. My grandsons brought me a satiny pouch of dried lavender to put in a drawer which made everything smell very nice!

I tried lavanda ice-cream once in Brihuega and I liked it. Very nice town, I would not say it is overly touristic. In the Alcarria "comarca" (county or shire) there are good places to see, indeed. You can manage it all in a day, setting off from Madrid. Stu, you missed the "Real Fábrica de Paños" (Royal Cloth Factory), a 18th century circular building that was quite important back in the day.

A very nice town. Much nicer than other small towns you have recently featured. Maybe over time the populations will shift back to the small towns. If so, this town is a good model. Thanks for the interesting exploration of small towns.

Drove down from Santander to Huelva last week with stop overs in Salamanca and Caceres it was raining very heavily when we got to Salamanca so we were unable to do a walking tour of the old town. Caceres was a different story and we enjoyed a day strolling through the old part of the city from the Plaza Mayor, lovely trip down the Routa de la Plata looking forward to our next trip through a largely unexplored part of Spain long may it remain that way.

What a lovely town, and not too far for a day trip from Madrid. It was so quiet that I wondered when you were there until you said on a Tuesday at 1pm. So that's good to know as a potential visitor, and of course it is much much more quiet at this time of year. I love these videos of small towns. Thanks!!

Thanks, Stu, for the most enlightening video of Brihuega. What fabulous architecture in this small town with lots of places of interest. I loved the panoramic view and all the touches of the agricultural community. Thank you again for your time and shoe leather. It will most definitely be keeping your step count up!

Leo from Vigo.. It is very interesting of your new technique of getting out of the Madrid area. The town you've been in has an interesting history of the Batte of Birhuega. It was a conflict between the retreating British and France/Bourbojn Spain...

Lovely to re-visit Brihuega. Still as beautiful as I remember it from the early 80s!!! La Alcarria is a famous area in Guadalajara as it was always a rich area. Camilo José Cela wrote 2 books about his trip around the Alcarria. The first book is very interesting, the second one is more Cela in his latter days. Thanks for this lovely video and for making me go back to Brihuega for free!!!

Nice one Stu, Brihuega's a lovely little town in a lovely region full of some lovely little towns (like Jadraque, Trillo, Cogolludo & of course glorious Siguenza). I remember talking to a few locals when we were there and they said Brihuega's been saved by lavanda from the fate facing so many other similarly lovely but almost aged-out towns and villages in central Spain. When driving round central Spain's small towns & pueblos I used to rejoice seeing kids playing in the street or young families, that's what it has come to now.

The thing that always baffles me is where are the people they must all be retired 2:00 p.m. so I suppose that means shops closed and siesta time😂😴 thanks for the tour keep up the good work mate🇪🇸👍

I've lived in Madrid for 18 years now and have visited Brihuega twice. I'd imagine that, at 1pm on a Tuesday, most working-age people are at work either in the town or in other places outside of the town. We didn't see many bars in the video, but surely they'd be busy inside, due to the weather. Retired people are also likely indoors, preparing lunch and staying dry. Come 8pm, I'd bet there'd be much more strolling foot-traffic.

Brihuega and the running of the bulls. A friend from Brihuega invited me to the fair when we were in high school. The Hare Krishna had and still do their headquarters in Spain in Brihuega. A bull escaped and got into the Hare Krishna property. That was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life. The HAre Krishna uniform is not the most appropriate to avoid being gored by a bull. It was funny seeing them running like hares (Krishna), I know I'm being bad. My friend from Brihuega is lame in his left foot from birth and, well, there he still goes running the bulls in Brihuega yearly

Hey stuart I've been reaching out to numerous car companies to try to work on a long-term sponsorship so that I can drive to towns like these in Spain and create content like this in English and Spanish.. However, all the car rental companies don't seem to be interested. I know you drive your own car but have you ever tried to leverage something like that with your channel? If so, what companies would you recommend? I've always been a proponent of rural "real Spain" tourism and unfortunately the only way to do that is with a car. By the way, the region you're in is one of the most sparsely populated areas in all of Western Europe..22 degrees down in Malaga today..

Saludos.

Great stone buildings and monuments. It must have taken many labourers or slaves, and much effort to build these beautiful structures - churches, etc. I wonder the amount of time it took to complete these structures - years?. Very nice town. Lavender has a soothing effect on people. some people use it over their pillows. The fragrance gives people a peaceful sleep, so they say.. Thanks!

Stewart, I’ve been watching for many years. Did stop for a bit because of all the bad political things you were reporting about. Just started watching again because of the small towns. I’m American and love Spain. But you do come across as a bitter person with a lot of negative comments. And you walk by beautiful places and things without a word about them. Never going inside a panadería to show the beautiful bakery or whatever is inside places. You come across as you don’t care about the videos or the place or people you visit. Such a shame. Just my thoughts for what that’s worth.
@janethaver3375
@janethaver3375 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think Stuart comes across as bitter. I think he just gives his opinion. He has made his life in Spain and seems to enjoy his family life. He’d probably rather live somewhere less hot in summer and misses the sea, but his affection for the country and its food and wine are very evident. We all have gripes about where we live, but I for one enjoy Stuart’s output, as I’m sure do many other watchers. He’s a nice man, and I’m happy with that

To be quite honest, panaderias are much the same across Spain and pretty often nothing special, esp if you cant taste the pan they sell. Now, a pasteleria? That's a different story, they're visually rather more interesting.
