while everyone seems to have picked up on the fact that this isn't Sara Ramirez no one seems to have noticed that this isn't Broadway, it's the Royal Variety Performance, which is why they take the second bow, they're bowing to the Queen

It's Hannah Waddingham, not Sara Ramirez. However, can we just take a moment to appreciate Christopher Sieber's absolutely sublime voice, especially when he hits the Bb for "long" and the E for "ends" right at the end of this great number! I also love the chemistry between Chris and Hannah

I would never be embarrassed to attend any performance where performers have put in days, months sometimes years of hard work ! Everyone is welcome to their own opinion, I would just like to put an opinion forward from the other side of your argument. Every show is a success and everyone involved in the shows are all talented individuals. Thank you !

Once in every show There comes a song like this It starts off soft and low And ends up with a kiss Oh, where is the song that goes like this Where is it? Where, where? A sentimental song If it casts a magic spell They all will hum along We'll over-act like hell Oh, this is the song that goes like this Yes, it is (yes, it is) Yes, it is (yes, it is) Now we can go straight into the middle eight A bridge that is too far for me I'll sing it in your face While we both embrace And then we change the key Now we're into E Hm, that's awfully high for me But everyone can see We should have stayed in D For this is our song that goes like this I'm feeling very proud You're singing far too loud That's the way that this song goes You're standing on my toes Singing our song that goes like this I can't believe there's more It's far too long, I'm sure That's the trouble with this song It goes on and on and on For this is our song that is too long Jesus Christ, goddamn it When we've taken this too long You'll wish that you weren't born Let's stop this damn refrain Before we go insane The song always ends like this

I was actually listening to a song from another musical on a radio show and it was a soft melodramatic ballad and half way through THIS song popped into my head. It was that show's 'song like this'. LMAO. I'll never listen to musicals the same way again.

The sideways bows are proof that this clip is from the Royal Variety show, and I know Hannah Waddingham was in the original London cast, and the man is an American whose names escapes me, but he was in the Broadway show before coming to London to appear in the original cast, and speaks in the American accent at one point ("You'll wish that you weren't born")

One of the best days of my life--I can't remember exactly, but probably 2006, when Spamalot wasn't particularly new on Broadway, I saw a matinee performance of it. Then I saw an evening performance of Forbidden Broadway, an off-Broadway show that parodies current Broadway shows. They started doing this song, and for quite a while, I was thinking, "They're doing this song exactly like the original, not a parody." Finally, quite a ways into it, they started in with some different lyrics about how this song had stolen the entire concept of Forbidden Broadway, and they hate the people behind Spamalot for doing that.
@Nonregional15 жыл бұрын
You've hit on the main thing that makes British comedy (and the viewing audience) a bit different from the American equivalent. Here we have the same book, lyrics and score for two casts, performing for two audiences. A lot of the differences will be national, and a good example is the deeply ironic British style. Anyhoo, I like this version. The song is primarily parody/satire, so playing it straight makes the mocking a bit more sharp-edged.

Theatre is not a dying art. The reason it continues to be taught, and will continue to be taught is it's such a real medium. Movies do not show raw emotion, they show practice emotion that has been edited to get what the producer actually wanted. With theatre, each show is a different show. You never get the same performance, which is why people go to see the same play so many different times. Can you get the same thing from a movie? And movie acting is taught in schools. Get your facts right

+A Person... This isn't even the US production... Not Broadway...and not Sarah.
"Fun" is a relative word. I'm sure there are many actors who find theatrical productions more fun to be in than movies. However, I would have to argue that most actors want to act in movies, not theatre. I'm not trying to argue about which one is more fun. I'm saying that most audiences care way more about movies than they do theatre. Broadway is still successful (because of its history); however, most theatre houses struggle financially. People like movies better. It's just a fact. Accept it.
