Wow, this video is so great. I just got married not too long ago to my Greek husband and all he talks about is when his mother used to make spanacopita from scratch. I think I will make these for him from scratch and surprise him on his Birthday. Thank you for making these wonderful videos I am learning so much from you. I am Italian and I enjoy cooking a lot. This recipe will be welcome addition to my recipe collection.
@CookingwithShereen2 жыл бұрын
thank you. I too am Italian and my husband is Greek. Practice makes perfect with the phyllo but WOW, it's amazing. I recommend, layering each piece with parchment or plastic so they don't stick together. Let me know how you make out.

Hi, I saw ur comment and just wanted to share a quick story. I saw u say u loved watching ur Yiayia make spanikopita, but u explained yiayia! ❤ I am a "black" woman from Philly and although I have never really had many Greek or Italian friends, I always thought I was different. "Glad u asked, what I mean". 🤣 I told my children that I want to b called Yiayia IF they ever have children and that once they do, Im just gonna start wearing a babushka 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ Imagine my surprise when I realized "THAT" is Russian. (I like the word tho 😔)

Hi Shereen - Thank you for this amazing recipe! I have them baking in the oven right now!!! It was my first time making filo, and I ruined 9 of the sheets, but the others made it through. I was trying to minimize the amount of cornstarch as I thought you suggested, but that made the sheets stick together during the first stacked roll out. They become stringy when I tried to pull them apart to flour them page-by-page. I realized you were using more cornstarch then I was, and luckily the second batch survived. The filling is DELICIOUS! Thanks for a great recipe!

Mrs. Shereen, these look absolutely delicious, i would eat them all in 2 days, lol, i'm only 6-0 tall , 190 lbs. , but i can eat, ty so much for this recipe. My wife & I are adopting you & your husband & our new grand children, lol. Couple of questions, salt, is it kosher or sea ?, & this cries for greek olive oil, & is their a battle in the house over using greek vs italian olive oil ? lol. You are just to kind, another couple things, folding them is like folding a flag if folks do not know about paper footballs, lol, & even after i have to squeeze moisture out of any greens, i still through them in my salad spinner, works great & easy clean up. I'm irish & even use the spinner to get all moisture out of diced/sliced potatoes for better browning. God Bless you all, ty again.

haha. I know. Me too! Seriously, as I've been editing this video, I keep running to the frig. reheating them and eating em. I made a lot! lol. Yes. Kosher salt (I like Diamond Crystal brand). Haha. I love both Greek and Italian olive oil. They're great for different uses. Great point, about the flag, I didn't even think of that.

@@CookingwithShereen Mrs. Shereen, yw, yes they look great & i'm sure they are delicious, i would not have time to run to the fridge & reheat, as they would not have time to cool off before i ate them all, lol, God Bless

@@CookingwithShereen Mrs. Shereen, lol, i know both olive oils , greek & italian have their uses, lol, but you failed to answer my question, is there a spat over which is better?, lol, remember now, i'm retired law enforcement agent, & interrogated many folks, lol. You have got to try the cincinnati chili, if you can find an anonymous way i can send it to you, i will buy & give you the prep directions. Believe it or not, the chili is one of the few items that tastes just as good from the can or frozen as in the restaurant, there are so many spices. God Bless

@@CookingwithShereen Mrs. Shereen, i saw chef john attempt Cincinnati chili the other day, i have 5 greek friends who own/owned Cinti chili parlors, ( i say owned because 2 of them have passed away) he is barely even close, beef is not in small enough bits, cheese is wrong shred, & there are many more spices than what he used, but he gave it a valiant try. We have to figure out away for me to get you some chili, you are more knowledgable about the internet than me, to many lunatics on here to give out private info , & i'll buy & give you prep directions, i'm not rich, but it won't cost me more than $ 20.00, & i would be glad to do it, i sent some to a chef in Texas, he likes it & you know how Texans feel about their chili . Let me know, i just have a feeling you & your husband are going to love it. p.s. i wonder if i could mail it to your nearest post office where you could pick it up like certified mail by name without giving your address. My brother-in-law is a postmaster & maybe he would know. God Bless
