Great song, great reaction! A very underrated SB song is "Only When You Leave" PS the "dove" motif was their logo for the period around the "True" album

The lead singer as smooth as Bryan Ferry....and trust me, that is a compliment. They played their big hit, "True", at my senior prom...I wished my partner could have danced as well as the lead singer sings. 😂

A true classic, no doubt. To me this song also has one of the best endings in pop history. Plus its extended/12" versions is one of the best ever made.

These guys are from the era when I was a preteen. But as a singer, and older now, I’m so impressed by Hadley’s voice. He’s so obviously a well trained singer who sounds just as great live. I’ve seen some live concert footage from 10 or so years ago and even as an older man that voice is still right on point. Impressive! You’d probably also like ABC whose lead singer has a similar style & are sophisticated but dance heavy. I do also love ONLY WHEN YOU LEAVE by Spandau too. Great reaction as always!!

Ahhh, love a bit of Spandau B. Tons of hits but this is one of my absolute favourites. Tony Hadley has a monumental voice and the Kemp brothers were great - the brothers have done a bit of acting in their time too, bit of trivia. Love this one, glad you chose it and appreciate it as much as so many do. They were considered part of the "new romantics" movement in the 80s. In fact they were really the biggest name among the "new romantics". Excellent all round.

Agree on wanting the song to be longer. And you can get it by searching out some 12" Remixes. I bought a great one back in the 80's. I'm almost positive I found it online on youtube at some point too.

One of the classic acts of the 1980’s ! My teenage years too …. You need to also react to True, Through The Barricades, Fight For Ourselves, Pleasure, Steal & How Many Lies ….. what a band !!! They have unfortunately had many arguments with the outcome being to go to court over various things so they had a long period of not doing anything but they tried to patch it up and did do a new album and tour but things started to unravel and they split for the final time …. Tony Hadley (lead singer) has gone back to being a solo artist and has categorically stated he’s not going to be involved in any future Spandau Ballet projects or tours …. So unfortunately that is the end. The only way they could go on is to have somebody else take over but that can be a double edged sword …..

Tony Hadley is without a doubt in the top of eighties vocalists. The man has some amazing pipes. Spandau Ballet never broke America though. True was their biggest hit over there. In Europe their 4th album Parade did commercially well, as did their 5th Through the barricades. At the end of the eighties the band declined and both of the Kemps persued an acting carreer. Main songwriter Gary Kemp played in the blockbuster The Bodyguard as Withney Houston's agent. And bassist Martin Kemp had a long run as an actor in a British soap opera. They reunited in 2009 and in 2015 to much succes. However singer Tony Hadley left because of alledged personal feud against both Kemps..

I don't know if you can say they never broken America considering True is the number one played single in radio history. Not to mention the video for Gold was played every half an hour on MTV.

After Spandau Ballet broke up the Kemp Brothers went into acting both appearing in the movie The Krays. Gary went on to play Whitney Houston's manager in The Bodyguard and Martin appeared in a famous British soap opera called EastEnders.

Hi Dereck! Personally, I wasn't thrown away by this song! I much prefer TRUE released the same year which is far better than this one. I didn't understand why the Patreons didn't propose TRUE first for a first react (weird!!), to let you know, it's their SMASH HIT and well-known song in their repertoire. I'm even surprised that in my country (France) the title was ranked no. 3 on the Airplay Chart. Thanks for your great work our American dude. 👍🇫🇷
