We went to Navarre Pier in FL last spring. The Spanish were thick, but you had to use 50 lb test leader or they and the blue fish would bite you off. Even with 50 lb test you had to tie a new leader every 2-3 fish. Glad you had a good trip man.

Love to pier fish. Started pier fishing in 1964. I use a 12 lb 7 strand steel leader with a haywire twist on gotchas and straw bubble rigs for my spanish. Also small alwy on small treble. No swivels. Spanish will hit the swivel and cut you off.

Folks, just so you all know, FISHBITES needs to be in the water about 15-20 minutes to BEGIN TO DISSOLVE! The bait doesnt just work instantly, like a medicine pill, it needs to be in water to start getting soft, then start dissolving and putting scent into the water. temperature and movement affect that rate.

There are two types of Fishbites (for the Bag o Worms type, anyway). The blue bag, you are correct, takes time to dissolve. They also have a red bag that doesn't have the mesh that dissolves instantly

on that pier....specifically THAT pier, the colors are pink and that off-mustard yellow that work. Esp. for pomp-jigs. gold spoons work EARLY in the AM.....silver the rest of the day.

There is a park in Gulf Breeze with a fishing pier and about mile long shore line. Great wade fishing for trout and reds.

Next time try a bubble rig, bubble filled with water, few feet of leader and a silver spoon. Casts a mile and doesn't pull out of the water on piers. Crushes macks

If you back over there look up the KOA camp ground on Lillian Alabama it’s 10 mins from Pensacola and 3 other beaches cost $600 for a cabin for a week

Try a small diamond jig with colored teaser on the end next time. Those really work well.

I’ve personally always use 50+ fluro or light 7 strand wire for Spanish. I live near that pier, guess I need to stop messing with marsh reds and waiting on the pier for the kings to show up

In flagler beach pier we run gotchas all day for spanish,blues and jacks for shark bait, max leader we like to use 40 top!

Anything above 40 pounds will lose the action of the lure and metal just doesn't work for us here

Those Mack’s live McDonald’s straws. Much cheaper then those gotcha plugs. Also, next time you use a white bucktail lure looking for mackeral try a piece of aluminum foil. They love that sparkle
