Thanks for this guide. Just did all plugs, wires, and coils on an 06 santa fe. Same engine, damn near identical layout. Took me 4 hours in total. Not a bad job, just tedious. For anyone else doing this job, I did not remove any coolant lines, just moved them a smidge while loosening the coil pack bracket.

Great video. Very helpful for mapping out the job before getting into it. Just going through this now with an 04 Santa Fe. I have already changed the plugs and wires. IDK when the plugs had last been changed, but there was nothing left of the electrodes. Runs so much better, but still a random misfire and power loss going up hills. Only thing left is my coil pack. I suspect that with the electrodes MIA on the plugs, the coils started to short out internally. Seeing you struggle with the coil pack made me think that with my large hands there has to be a better way. Rather than drain the coolant system, considerable room can be opened up by take the two outer coils off the frame. They only require removing 2 Phillips screws and an electrical connector. With those out of the way it is easy to get at those 2 lower 10mm.

Bit late, but I just did this job and did not remove the upper coolant line. Probably wise to do so to avoid damaging it, plus you have a lot more room to work. Tight squeeze without removing upper coolant line, but it can be done.

According to Haynes manual are incorrect with coil numbers 63 52 41. It s/b 365214. Firewall 135, radiator side 246. Ever done lower manifold on these? Mines not leaking but 18 yrs old 80k. Replaced all other gaskets. Thanks for video. Time consuming to work on. Glad I work on own car it would be very expensive to pay someone to work on this V6.

I dont believe Ive had to do a lower manifold gasket on one of these yet. Thanks for confirming that. I found I think 4 different firing orders for that car, even using prodemand/mitchell.

HAYNES manual has coils numbered 635241 but I took off my oem coil and it's marked 365214. Connected coil back up using 365214 and it started up perfectly so book is wrong. Dyslexic proof editors at Haynes apparently. Kia offers no support either.

Furthermore I took picture of NGK wires before removing and they are numbered and confirmed it's correct.

​@@davida871vehicle ran perfectly using 365214 coil numbers. I think manufacturing messed up location of coil wires. 4 pin plug includes 3 coil wires and 3 blue wires pin#2. That would explain many firing orders. Wow Kia/ Hyundai.

When testing individual coils ohm resistance I don't think it matters firing order as long as spark plug wires match up with coil wires attached to each coil. This would explain the multiple sequence of coil numbers at both ends of coils 3,6 & 1,4 vs 6,3 & 4,1. It might be due to aftermarket coils versus oem coils and there coil numbers.

Thanks so much, this video is amazing and well produced. I had a funky timing order too when I opened mine up. You had an order of 63 52 41. The diagram I found online showed 36 25 41. My car (and another user in a forum) had an order of 36 52 14. Gave me a scare but then I read that all of the above work as long as you keep the pairs together. So far my car seems to be working ok, we'll see if it dies here soon :)

@dereknguyen9127 no, thats going to be a different process. The transmission comes down under the car. I can tell you book calls for roughly 8 hours for removal and install. If at home and unexperienced, Id say itd be at least a weekend project. I dont do transmission or engine swaps here. Every once in awhile Ill take a swap but only if its one Im comfortable with like honda or subara. Even then, I really try to stay away from transmission work due to liability issues. Im not trying to buy someone a new transmission lol.

Small black & white wire connects to coils 1 & 4, Yellow stripe wire connects to middle coils 2, 5. Red stripe wire connects to 3 ,6 coil. Coils numbered 365214 from firewall to radiator. If plug breaks blue (ground) goes to Pink wire . Black ground wire bolts to coil pack with attached eyelet above 12mm bolt holding coil to block near thermostat end.

i’ve got a misfire in my 4th cylinder (i have a v6) i believe it’s the ignition coil could i replace just one at a time?

@ulyssesboulton6599 its actually 2 at a time. Each block can be done separately. Theres 2 screws holding each block in place.

That's a lot of work to change sparkplug and wires. It's got to where you have to remove a lot of parts to do a simple job🤦. ✌🏻

A lot of V6's need the intake manifold removed. Not all of them have so much attached to them. My biggest issue in this one was the firing order but I got it down :) Thanks for watching!
