There is a distinct difference between fit and "work fit", where you have the ability to handle your work demands day in and day out. You don't really notice it until you have a long break from your regular work schedule and the recent lockdowns provide an excellent example of this suddenly stopping work and then returning to work several weeks or months later and your body has lost work conditioning.

@@bigteddy66 please tell me what is better… I’ve operated Komatsu, link belt, sany, kubota, Bobcat, hyundai, Volvo, John deere, doosan, daewoo and in all of my 15 years of operatin caterpillar has had the best machines, the best performance, longevity, hydraulic power, swing torque and cats maintenance is much more in tune with that your machine needs not what you tell them

Barely see a JCB backhoe in North America. But in NA, the backhoe has largely been replaced by the mini excavator anyways. So certainly not number 1

Exactly. Backhoes are the machine that is capable of performing in all application, but they are the worst machine in all of those applications. They're too big to outperform a skid steer. They're too small to stand up to a loader. They're too big and cumbersome to take the place of a mini. Just the worst of all worlds.

Liebherr besides making enormous mining equipment, cranes and industrial refrigeration they also make the finest domestic fridges in the world. Not cheap but if one breaks down (it won't) during it's 10 year warranty Liebherr will send out one of their engineers to fix it.

I agree on the JCB part of your answer but CAT is not any better than Volvo or Komatsu. I have operated them all, only brand I haven't used is Doosan. And for backhoes, Huddig is no.1 hands down.

The Diesel engine was so important for the construction of the Society we have now. Wonder what technology going to replace it. Many point out Hydrogen ICE, or Fuel Cells. Hauling around a massive battery pack isn't the short term answer.

I visited the Hambach excavation pits (and several other pits more to the east in the time that communist Germany still existed) in the eighties of the 20th century in order to collect fossil land snail species of Pliocene and early Pleistocene age. The machines were huge and the shells were very difficult to collect. The shells were much more interesting than their machinery.
