In my experience, Sparkling Gouramis do best in groups of at least 3-5 (more is always acceptable as long as the male to female ratio is close to 50%), not solo. Beautiful tank set up and love the video!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I kept them in all kinds of setups; solo, small groups and big groups. I noticed each one has a different character and sometimes they are peaceful and other times they are not. They remind of Bettas after all they are from the same family. Cheers

Sparkling gouramis are semi aggressive..I found that out the hard way…Now I have honey gouramis… such sweet little fish..I love them..🫶

I keep 3 sparkling gourami in my 20g with 12 pygmy cories. Never had interactions between them at all. Also had 2 honey gourami and female betta. No interactions. Personality could just be hot headed for you, and maybe not enough space. I would have removed the sparkling gourami, bc i love the pygmy corys. i will ensure nothing harms those little things.

Pygmy Corydoras are happily breeding in the other aquarium. I kept Gouramis with other fish as well and never had issues. I guess this Gourami is just antisocial.

I have another one in a cube with Chili rasboras and they get along fine. I guess it all depends from fish to fish.

I also have such male gourami, he seems to be agressive to all the fish in the aquarium. First I had a couple of sparkling gouramis - male and female - then decided to add one more female, but it turned out to be a male😅 and after several months he started to chase the other male, a then other fish in the tank. So I had to move him into a smaller tank. Now he lives alone with two ottos. Yes, it depends on the fish character I think.

I just picked up a Gourami as a center fish in a 7 gallon cube tank I scaped with inspiration off your moss cube. I have him in there with 7 CPDs, 2 Otocinclus, and a handful of Orange Sunkist Shrimp. So far so good. Love your videos!

I had gouramis in the past that did well with ember tetras. I would say each one has a different character.

I once made a mistake to put a dwarf gourami in my 20 gallon long with pepper corries, platties and neons. That thing had become the terror of the entire fish tank. He had no mercy for anyone, especially during feeding time . I had to rehome him fast.

I've got to say, you caught the Pygmy's pretty easily (except the last one, ofcourse), especially with such a small net. 😅 They seem strangely relaxed, in your case. Like the H.amandae I mentioned under an earlier video, I seem to have this talent where I put the most skittish fish in a tank and only get to see them from a safe distance... Still undecided on what I should add to draw them out. Probably a handful of Endler guppys, because everything else either get to big for the tank or need a decent sized group to make sense. And I guess Sparkling Gourami isn't the answer either. 😉

Endler guppies would be good to pull them out in the open. As soon as they see them swimming they will feel more comfortable.

@@IMaqua I thought I would keep you up to date. I ended up with adding a handful of regular guppies, and I'm happy to say they drew out the Ember tetra's. The Pygmy's are still sparsely seen, though, so not a 100% succes rate.

It is 40L /10 GAL and yes you can keep them in it. As their name "pygmy" suggest they are tiny.

Super fast but lazy. He would snipe them when they were having naps on the leaves. Fortunately they all recovered just a couple of days I pulled them out of there.

My case are female guppy, its hostile to anyone that are smaller than it. I remove the hostile fish & place it with bigger fish. While another female guppy are so friendly it tries to swim in school with neon tetra, its a complete 180 turn.

I have another aquarium series on this channel. Single Sparkling gourami with a small school of Chili rasboras. They are fine. But be warned each of the Gouramis has a different personalities and you never know how they will behave. I would do as you planed but just in case have a backup aquarium if things don't go as planned.
