To those asking about BNC testing, If you buy a BNC to F-type adapter you can test continuity with most any tester, as for frquency loss or attenuation, you will need a much more sophisticated tester than this one. (Former Commercial installer for Comcast, Mediacom, and time warner.)

Would you use this tool as a continuity tester? If not, which tool would you recommend? I had a Southwire continuity tester that died and I need to replace it with one that is more reliable.
@explod329 Жыл бұрын
This is basically all this tester is doing. It test continuity. You could perform almost the exact same test with a multimeter minus the footage reading unless you know how to read the ohms correctly. This unit is easier and faster because it can test all the wires at once with a readout and the end caps complete the circuit vs you manually having to touch wires together one at a time. I am a 23 year electrician and if you just want to test continuity you can use a cheap pair of multimeters. I personally use fluke because obviously I test voltage, current as well. Back in the day I used just a 18 volt drill battery and a $3 buzzer to test continuity out in houses just to tell if the circuits were complete. If the buzzer made sound then the circuit was complete by the voltage making its way back to the buzzer. Do not purchase this unit for testing simple continuity.

@@GiovanniCinto In the old days (and probably still now in some cases?) a crossover cable would be created by terminating A on one end and B on the other end. This would ensure that the pair for transmission on device 1 would be crossed over to the receive pair on device 2 - which was required years ago. Useful for connecting PCs directly together, or switches to each other etc. These days, pretty much all interfaces support auto crossover, so crossover cables aren't really required. I'm not totally sure why, but most people now terminate to T568B standard rather than A

As mentioned in source , "T568b is the newer standard and much more popular in modern networks." Hey, I'm a technician, the short answer is yes. You'll be able to find out the length of the cable without an issue (though I do believe there is a max limit the Pro Scout 3 can read, I believe it's about 2000ft). What you won't be able to properly do is find out if there are issues with the lines. If you want to do that then you would have to remove the keystone (female) and place an RJ45 terminal (male) on both ends. Sorry if this answer is a bit late. Hope it was some help.

CAT7 is not a thing. CAT6 is the current standard

Category 8 is the latest ethernet cable type recognized by TIA standards and currently available in the market. Representing a rapid leap in data transfer speed compared with previous models, it runs at 1 or 2GHz and up to 40Gbps. Additionally, the newest addition to the Ethernet cable family has received recognition for its shielding.

@@SparkyChannel Thank you for the review sir. Also, I have no idea why someone will be so confidently wrong about the existence of a standard while talking on the internet. Litterally, the entirety of human knowledge at their fingertips and they won't even google if cat7 exists. ^^;; Like I don't know about you, but when I see something I didn't know about in tech I go "oh, I didn't know that existed.. Let's have a quick look to find out more!".. Meanwhile "object to this" just seems to want to watch the world burn. ^^;;

@@retrohipster1060 Cat7 was ratified as a standard in 2002 by ISO 11801, however it was never ratified by EIA/TIA which is the body most look to for Ethernet cabling. Cat7 is kind of an oddball, it started as proprietary (not sure about now) and is rarely used because Cat6a is just as good or better. I completely agree that the OP, and too many people in general, spout off strong opinions about things they know little about.

I just installed cat9 in my house. I haven't found our cat in the last week or two, hope he's ok.

Hello is RG6 cable testing done with this product?
@awakenedsoul2638 Жыл бұрын
2:47 Hey! Could this cable tester test properly if you connect a rollover or crossover cable on it and say if it pass and shielded or not? Maybe it only reads a straight through cable correctly?
@dmrsibs27 Жыл бұрын
I have one like this and it writes Pass X-over up top when you plug in the crossover cable

@@dmrsibs27 What about Rollover?
@dmrsibs27 Жыл бұрын
Rollover fails for data cable but shows Rev up top which means cable is properly wired reverse-pinned voice cable in the manual.The wire map will show actual pin connections though with the number combinations

@@dmrsibs27 So this is not programmed to test rollover.
