I did all the bags and mitts and drills for months…but when I finally started sparring-it was whole new thing (almost)- controlling pace, space/range, footwork- creating angles, positionally-advantageous angles, breathing, closing range, defending and countering, re-adjusting constantly according to the offense , clinching/grappling/wrangling-untangling, posturing-defensive/offensive, psychological conditioning- yes-conditioning oneself to getting hit, takings feeling like you’re losing and mentally adjusting to it quickly, developing sportsmanship, etc… sparring offered a whole bunch of important lessons… (I’ve documented some of my progress in sparring training with coach-see for yourself)

Tony Jeffries is articulate and crystal clear in his presentation. If you know what I mean, this could very well be a testament to what he said, "Hit and not be hit". After all, Tony has been there and done it all in boxing.

Phenomenal video as always. I remember my first sparing session I didn't wanna hurt anybody but I really wanted to box so I got very good and defense but had very very poor offense and I jabbed like 99% of the time and landed no power punches in sparing or in a once in a blue moon heavy side spar. Now I feel I have good control my how much power input I have. With tons of light sparing never went home with a headache and learned a lot

Ha! Same here. Only once i sent a sparring partner to the canvas, but it had more to do with technique than power (upper to lower part of solar plexus, almost a mistake) and felt very bad. Fortunately, a close friend of his wanted revenge, so he tried to decapitate me in the next round... but my defense was good. We ended (three of us) as good friends.
