Just a simple political/historical context : Russia did its communist revolution in 1917 (all the Tsar family shot dead), so in the years after WWI, it was still in a civil war and Winston Churchill, who was fiercly anti-communist, was trying to fund the "white army" (the Tsarist, anti-communist army). I won't say more, but that's the general reason why there's Russian intrigues here.

A little tidbit ...the gentleman who was at aunt Polly's door, is the character Reuben Oliver, he is played by the actor Alexander Siddig who played Prince Doran Martell(Oberyn' brother) in GoT...

Said it before, I'll say it again, the true goat of this series is the unlikely side character, the one we would never expect to like let alone love, and yet has by far the most interesting development out of them all. Arthur. And he plays with our heartstrings all the bloody time. Never knew this actor either before this, what a true talent!
@jackinabox926Ай бұрын
Sad that he's basically got the same problems in real life as Arthur has

I wanted to leave behind a suggestion for potential new series to watch. It's called "Black Sails" and follows the tale of pirates. It remains one of my favorites, so perhaps it's something two would like as well! It gives Pirates of the Caribbean vibes, but trades some of it's comedy for a darker tone. Something to look into perhaps! "Black Sails is an American historical action-adventure television series set on New Providence Island. It was written to be a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel Treasure Island, while also including depictions of several real-life historical figures and fictionalized versions of actual historical events."

Fighting for? That's one name for extremism and terrorism. The IRA were extremists from the start. They "fought" for Ireland like how the Nazis "fought" for Germany 😂

The bone burning scene (bones of the horse i believe) is genius with "you and whose army" by Radiohead, saying ghost horses
@danielgardecki1046Ай бұрын
Clearly you haven't seen this show. What horse? There was no dead horse. There was however a dead spy from the Russian government, which is why Tommy got Johnny Dogs to prepare the fire (along with telling John to sober up) when he noticed this weird character acting suspicious, just in case he was a spy which he was. The bones belonged to the spy claiming to be Kaledin.
@tajolariffin6021Ай бұрын
36:43, yeah right..cause anyone can say he's Kaledin right? hence the codename..plus Kaledin has dark hair like Tatiana said, but the Kaledin at Tommy's wedding was blonde..My guess the real Kaledin is dead

Arthur does most of the dirty work because he’s not good at anything else that’s his role in the Shelby family unlike John and Tommy who are good at other things other then killing people.
@danielgardecki1046Ай бұрын
Liar... He's good at drawing... horses... stallions... great big ones... they look real.
@PohjanKarhu20 сағат бұрын
That's only because they don't let him get good at anything else. Tommy wasn't good at strategy until after the war. And then he wasn't particularly good at that in the first season either. But he grew. Arthur has potential. The others are just deciding that his place is where he is at. All while Tommy and Pol accumulate their experience and power. It's a dictatorship family.
@PohjanKarhu20 сағат бұрын
Tommy wasn't good at many things before he got good at them. Funny how that works... people learn. But somehow Arthur isn't allowed to learn.
@PohjanKarhu20 сағат бұрын
The Shelby family is an extreme hierarchy. That's why. Tommy STOLE his power from his brother in s01e01. Since then he has been a dictator. Albeit the others have fallen in line. But it doesn't change that the hierarchy is there. Arthur has been put as the dumb brute, so there will he remain. All while Tommy accumulates power and money at the top...

When watching this originally I thought the Russian man at the wedding gave the wrong code name because he was from the opposition Russians that Tommy/Churchill were not working with. When seeing it today it seemed like the guy in the wedding was set up by Tatiana/Churchill as she makes a point of asking Tommy can you kill as if it’s all a test to make sure he’s fit for the job they want him for. If I’m wrong anyone feel free to correct me 🤷♀️😂

Tatiana asks if Mr Kaledin has dark hair. The infiltrator had blonde hair, so I believe he was not the real Mr Kaledin. The guy was just using Kaledin's name..And Grace's husband killed himself cause he couldn't accept the reality that's he's the one with the problem, not Grace..anyways, i still like May, i bet she would have supported Tommy throught and through instead of asking Tommy dont do this and that like Grace did..May would've been a perfect match for Tommy

I’ve often heard that this season is the most confusing in terms of the history and storyline. But the big take away is that this season is around the time of the Russian civil war between the Bolshevik reds and the provincial government white armies.
