My theory on how they were going to bring Davy Jones back is that when Davy Jones "died", he fell into the sea hole (Whirlwind) created by Calypso. Octopuses, however, have 2 hearts. Therefore, the stabbed heart was his human heart. He still had his octopus heart left. But when he fell from the ship, he was trapped in a curse created by Calypso. Now that the curses were destroyed, so was the curse he was trapped in (But with his octopus heart, that's why he still has that shape). I suppose Davy Jones would seek revenge against Will since he has his ship and his crew. A last film would have been excellent to close the saga. Excellent reaction. The main problems of this movie: 1) Curse. We must remember the job that Davy Jones took wasn’t a curse. It was an obligation, a duty, a job but he corrupted his purpose and you could consider him “cursed”. So the reason why Will is become what he is completely unexplained. 2) Jack is being more stupid and flat as a character. That can be understandable if you consider that story now shifted main focus to Henry. 3)The story is a loop but shorter. The whole break my father's curse and be with love of my love is already happened with Will and Elizabeth and it took 3 movies for them and now Henry does all of this in one movie. It may be poetic from certain point of view and in context of Jack's phrase that "it's not the world getting smaller, there's just less in it." As for the good things in the movie (personal take) 1) Design of Salazar and his crew is really good, the animation of hair as if it's underwater or undead birds and sharks are cool. 2) Hector is always welcomed, he's in every movie and always consistent yet changing through movies. He's always a pirate that values freedom and treasure, he's smart and charismatic. But each movie his treasure is different from literally retaining senses and feelings to saving his life to saving his family.
@becauseimbatman13917 ай бұрын
I wouldn't call the first one a problem. Maybe Will did do something that made him more cursed. Just because it's unexplained doesn't mean it's a plot hole. It's a weird and unnecessary detail, but not really a problem
@zombezyb66927 ай бұрын
@@becauseimbatman1391 it's not entirely that he is cursed but rather why? Movie didn't elaborate that and a lot of people, me included don't like that one of main goals is without some background. When Will was saving his dad we got exposition and background even before it became his goal, Bill talked about it with Jack and so it didn't raise any questions as if why Will's father was with Davy Jones. But here they just gave us the fact that Will is cursed. Although I do agree that it maybe not a plot hole but only if they somehow tell us about what really happened.

I wonder if the curse on the aztec gold is lifted as well 🎉🎉 On another note, Barbossa was already resurrected by Calypso - in At World's End, Calypso/Tiadalma showed us how Barbossa looked like without her power. That resurrection was technically a curse, so it probably broke with all the other curses of the sea. So Barbossa is permanently dead, in my opinion, you can't resurrect an already resurrected person.
@vert25527 ай бұрын
well, its not like this movie made sense anyway lol
@ARareBreedStory7 ай бұрын
Well, I think breaking the triton broke every curse on the sea, and I don't know if the Aztec curse necessarily counts as a curse on the sea. I'd say it was more of a land curse. And a resurrection through magic doesn't make it a curse. A curse isn't automatically anything done through magic. But yes, Barbosa is permanently gone. The guy that played him is probably too old to return, even if they wanted to bring the character back.

i think the main problems in this film are the plot holes. Just to say some: in the other movies jack gives away the compass a lot of times and nothing happened, the compass itself is given to jack from calypso, there's no reason for will to be cursed since he didnt currupted his purpose. other problems are, in my opinion, that Jack himself is more stupid than "weird" in this film, and that the couple henry-carina does not work well like will-elizabeth. Still a great finale in my opinion. last Jack's line (i have a randevouz beyond my beloved horizon) is a reference to the last line in the first film that i loved. (sorry if i made some mistakes, english is not my first language)
@shinobu18867 ай бұрын
Yes, plot holes are a big problem but I'm so tired of them overdoing the supernatural stuff. The supernatural stuff was NOT what made the POTC movies special. A little bit was fine, from skeletons to cool looking fish crew & Davy Jones. But this is just getting out of hand. I'm tired of every single antagonist being unkillable for most of the movie. Super lazy. This is one of the reasons I actually liked 4 a bit more was at least Blackbeard was killable. (Still had some "zombiefide" crew, but its as good as it ever got) This is just one of many problems I have with this film.
@markcruz3597 ай бұрын
Being the captain of the flying dutchman is the curse. The longer the captain and crew do their duty the more they become riddled with barnacles etc. The only reason the barnacles came off in the third movie is because the curse began again from zero when Will took on the role. Davy Jones was cursed as an Octopus like creature for betraying his purpose. People are confusing these two curses. Will wanted to free his father from the "curse" and when Will took on the Davy Jones' role he gave his father the option to be free but decided to stay with Will. The curse remained.

That makes sense. I also enjoy Jack how he is in DMTNT because to me, it adds layers to him. He no longer has the Black Pearl and his crew abandons him. He's also always been an alcoholic, since the first movie, so what to expect to happen to an alcoholic after so many years and bad things happening? Plus it's extremely funny! All of this makes the ending even more satisfying because you feel like these characters finally got what they wanted and can move on in peace. Jack has his crew and the Pearl, Barbossa has his dignity and a good name, Will and Elizabeth finally have each other. This is all very emotional for me. I think Johnny Depp is a wonderful actor and one of the very best of our generation, seeing him in a different take on Jack is surprising and very impressive.

The reason why some people don't like this movie is because Jack is just kind of a baffoon throughout. The charm in the previous movies is the idea that no one really knows whether Jack plans everything out or is just incredibly lucky and stumbles through everything (typically a little of both). Here he's just treated a bit like a clown and he doesn't have many stoic moments. Granted they did introduce Jack at a low point being drunk all the time and not having a ship or crew so that could have been the explanation, but that could've also been addressed more by giving him a character arc.
@ShatteredIce7 ай бұрын
It's not that Jack is just incredibly lucky, he's actually rather intelligent. Behind the drunken/insane facade, he's quite clever and witty. I'm not a fan of the fourth movie, but the beginning with his meeting with the King is a really good demonstration of this. Making him stupid for stupid's sake is ridiculous. It's a betrayal of his character.
@krzysztofdodanowicz14727 ай бұрын
I agree. They did Jack dirty in this movie. Made him a clown and unimportant so that they csn cut him out of the further movies. Not to mention that Jack bargained his compass from Calypso. It would be an just an OK movie as a not pirates of the Caribbean. As an instalment in the franchise it's just not enough.

2:56 That is not true. Johnny Depp has definitely watched the first Pirates movie because he recorded a dvd commentary for it. He mentions how impressed he was by the scale of the visuals, since when he was on the set it never felt like he was making a big blockbuster movie. He also remarked on how weird it was to see the skeleton/zombie effects, since the special effects artists took the actor's own features and laid cgi on top, so Depp could still recognise his own eyes through the cgi mask.

What I don’t like about the movie is the things they ret-conned. Most for no point. The worst is what they did to Will. No way Will would abandon his purpose in the Dutchman. I think Will had that dream not as any sort of foreshadowing but because it is what he feared turning into, another Davy Jones, but it is just a dream. Imo its there to show that Will will always be scarred by the experience. Sort of like LOTR has a bittersweet ending with Frodo, Will has a happy ending but still has the memories.
The thing is...Davy Jones' heart was stabbed human or no, so him returning makes absolutely no sense...I know they could literally do anything, but this stuff is retconned so much.

I fully understand when actors don’t watch their shows or movies. I’d get sick of it the sense that they film this stuff for months. I’d be over it and not want to watch it. I know some actors talk on it. Some like seeing the special effects and some just cringe at seeing themselves. 4 is definitely that side story that doesn’t need to be seen, but still good.

You were mentioning cameos in the movies and I am not sure if you have heard this or not but the man who played Jack Sparrow’s father in one of the movies was Keith Richards, who is one of the founding members and guitarist for The Rolling Stones.

This movie feels like it was written by people who never watched the other 4 films... Even as a standalone pirate movie, the writing and story just seem cheap.

This was the fairy tale ending the franchise deserved. And I think Jack's comment at the end, "I have a rendezvous beyond my beloved horizon," I think that was a reference to his upcoming court appearance with Heard, which were obviously the most important thing coming up in Johnny's life.
@randylahey18227 ай бұрын
No it has nothing to do with some court trail, that ruined everything. The word rendezvous means "meeting", he could potentially mean something about Angelica or the pearl because he likes to use French words.
@kristophergathercoal50447 ай бұрын
@@randylahey1822 I know what rendezvous means. He left Angelica on an island and wouldn't have left her there if that was his biggest mission. And he's literally ON the Black Pearl at the moment he says this, so he's definitely not referring to the pearl. Horizons have constantly meant world swapping in the Pirates universe. I.E. when they have to go to the end of the world and what's on the horizon and what not. I may be wrong, but you're definitely not correct.

You guys should watch The Lone Ranger (2013), featuring Johnny Depp as Tonto and from the director of the first 3 Pirates movies. It’s a good time with great over the top action like Pirates, but western.

People tend to forget that if first time watchers take the advise to just watch the first 3 then skip to the fifth, they are going to be so confused as to why Barbossa has such a powerful presence on the sea and why the Black Pearl is in a bottle in the last movie.

This doesn't make sense , because David Jones turn into an octopus because he didn't take the souls that was his duty or job , but William is doing his job i don't know why he is turning weird like as Monster...
@LunaticKD19917 ай бұрын
You assume Will is doing the job but that might not be the case. Initially he might've done the job but it wears on him after awhile and he may have stopped doing the job to take a break which would result in the way he appeared in the beginning of this movie.

So how exactly do the souls of the dead get to afterlife if there's no "curse" of the Flying Dutchman. Also unless there was a big time skip then Will and Elizabeth's son should've been like 10 years old, and if there was a big time skip then the original cast looks suspiciously young
@RyuBlue5 ай бұрын
A bit late, but there was an official crossover between PotC and the game "Sea of Thieves" that continued the story, explaining that Davy Jones was resurrected after Will was released from his duties, since The Dutchman must always have a captain. The story of the DLC has Davy Jones returning and terrorizing the Sea of Thieves, but with the help of Jack Sparrow the player is able to stop Davy, who is then imprisoned forever in another world called the Sea of the Damned. A character from the game called "The Ferryman" then takes over Davy's role in ferrying souls to the afterlife.

A few bits of trivia.. Jack's "brush with the East India Trading Company" in the first movie is explained in a deleted scene. They hired him to deliver cargo, which ended up being slaves (which he set free). When the British navy ripped off Henry's sleeves after proclaiming him a traitor, it explains why Gibbs wears a sleeveless jacket. Murtogg & Mullroy were the guards from the first movie turned pirate. I agree Ragetti & Pintel should return to the franchise (as should Gibbs, Marty & Scrum). Technically, Elizabeth is still King of the Pirates & Carina Barbossa likely inherited her father's fleet.. a new story should include this.

Even though the Trident broke every curse, the reason Davy Jones came back is simple. Remember what some characters said in the third movie? "The Dutchman must have a captain."

Nah all curses are done. Curse of the heart, curse of service, everything. Screenwriters fucked up, simple as that. It's like as if a new lord of the rings movie brought back Sauron and copium viewers tried to justify it with nonsense.
