HMS Temeraire (teh·muh·reuh) together with the Tier 7 British battleship HMS Lion (Tier 9 in WOWS PC) are based on the Lion-class battleships, which are upgraded variants based on the King George V-class series of battleships for the Royal Navy designed in 1938, the main differences included the ships being equipped with new BL 16-inch Mark II naval guns, an upgraded variant of the BL 16-inch Mark I guns found on the Nelson-class battleships. Originally, there were six of these ships ordered. However, due to shifts in naval doctrine, combined with delays in manufacturing more 16 inch guns, and high costs led to the cancellation of these ships.

Correct, the main problem for the quad turret design was the inability of the Royal Navy to know the exact function nor training procedures to adequately use the turrets. Other problems are referenced in Quora: The problems associated with the 14-in turrets of the KGV class were to a large extent the result of the complexities the turrets’ safety interlocks, designed to prevent the flash of a cordite fire from proceeding down the ammunition supply routes to the magazine handling rooms. The fear of a repetition of the magazine explosions at Jutland in 1916 led to an almost pathological fixation on the part of designers to eliminate any possibility of similar situations occurring in the future. One can say that in many respects, the 14-inch mountings were probably over engineered when it might have been better to stop at some point and accept being good enough instead of the absolute best (something many German designers were also guilty of). Basically one can assign the difficulties to two major categories, mechanical and procedural: Mechanical problems included: Crowding of most elements in the machinery and ammunition supply train which made access and maintenance difficult. Very tight tolerances between rigid and revolving structures within the barbettes. Insufficient attention was paid to the design of anti-surge stops in the shell transport systems which led on occasion to turrets being jammed when shells in transport between the shell rooms and the gunhouse moved in response to abrupt maneuvers of the ship and fouled the fixed structures within the barbettes. Some mechanical components were found to be too weakly designed. Procedural problems were: Lack of experience and Insufficient training of the ordnance personnel who manned the mountings, particularly because of the complexities of the turrets and their safety interlocks. Operator errors were a major reason why the designed output of fire was rarely achieved in service, not only the occasional missed salvo for some guns, but sometimes extended periods of time when an entire turret was out of action for multiple salvos. All that said, it must be recognized that the new 14-inch mountings were just coming into service when the war started, and there was consequently no reserve of expertise in the RN in dealing with them. There were, for example, many mechanical defects found in the turrets of the Nelson and Rodney when they first entered service, but those two ships had the luxury of a decade or more to work them out and correct them before going to war. Furthermore, in that time a great deal of expertise was amassed in the operation of the 16-inch turrets that could be tapped in wartime by recalling reservists to the fleet, something that did not exist for the five KGV battleships commissioned during the war.

@@gabrielgaitan4856 I think you're being a bit harsh on the 14inch quad turrets, considering doy fire 52 full broadsides (thats 520 shells) during the battle against scharnhorst before she ran into any problems. I can't think of any battleships guns getting that much of a work out during an engagement of ww2. Also howe out shot missuori by a rate of 5-3 during the shore bombardment of okinawa, and later displayed some incredibly accurate gunnery shelling AA installations on the island of miyako, much to the surprise of some us navy officers. I think alot of the stick they get is from pow and the battle of the Denmark strait (also some people are really vitriolic towards the RN), but considering pow hadn't finished being fitted and still had civilian contractor's on board or undergone any sea trials what so ever. She still landed the blow that doomed bismark and forced her to seek a friendly port.

HMS Temeraire, she was to be the second of 4 Lion-Class Battleships, her sisters were Lion, Thunderer and Conqueror. She was laid down in Birkenhead on 1st June 1939. She and Lion were cancelled in 1942 and both were scrapped in favour of the 1942 design of the Lion-Class, her half sister HMS Vanguard. Temeraire would of been sixth ship to bear the name and the second Temeraire to be a Battleship after the Bellerophon-Class HMS Temeraire. Now that we have Lion, Temeraire and Conqueror, all we need is the firestarter Thunderer.

This ship needs more HP doesn't make sense the vanguard gets 71k but the Tier 8 dips in hp, but overall this ship is another punishing British BB so Respect it

Nice review with great information Spartan. These reviews on the tier 8 British Battleship Temeraire are very rare for console players ATM so I'm glad you uploaded a review and tips on her playstyle as both Console and pc meta are extremely different no matter what anyone says as I've played both platforms. I keep getting the same problems with players not knowing their destroyer has guns on her. They just seem to think they're there for show so they swim around letting of wide angled torps that never hit and don't even bother firing a shot off at enemy DD's. Anyway, great video, much appreciated. Keep up the hard work.

Her design is from KGV where 16inch guns would of been used. They had more 15inch in storage so they redesigned the ship which is Vanguard..

The Lion class were basically the larger versions of the KGVs with better armour, bigger guns, slightly longer and a transom stern along with some other smaller differences. They would’ve been comptables to the South Dakota’s.

I have a question know I'm late to the video but I finally got to unlocking the temeraire, but why is the aiming systems mod 1 always picked. I found myself picking that mod because I saw a lot of videos where they choose it, why? It has mainly a torpedo launcher speed buff? These battleships don't have torpedoes... Yea it gives a 7% dispersion and a 5% to secondary... Then you mind as well get the secondary battery mod. 2. With 20% secondary... Or even main battery mod 2 with again 20% main traverse speed.. am I missing something big here or am I the only one seeing this minor mistake?

Hey mate, love the vid! I'm not sure if I should get the BB or the DD, have you played the Jutland yet? I'm not sure about the turrets but she is a great ship all round* but amazing at nothing. If you don't have Nelson as a Commander, Cunningham is the obvious choice but what inspirations would you use? di Revel is an obvious choice but who else? I use Lev Galler for the extra HE damage in the second spot.

British BBs are generally only good if you can cope with the default commanders. But getting AL Nelson is a MUST for British BBs . That extra 2 heals are *very* necessary.

Not sure how you get so much HE and AP damage, mine is the same build with Nelson lvl 15 legend 3 commander lvl only increases no. of party repair charges by 1 not damage! Everything else is lvl 4 Yet HE damage is 8352 and AP is 15080 how on earth do you get He 9688 and 17493 AP damage? Cheat Perks?

Sorry I’ve looked into it a bit and you can only add it to new stuff that’s been add to the bureau which are the Daring and the Bourgogne but you can’t do it to the older projects that’s a bit crap 🤦‍♂️

Temeraire was originally a French ship, captured and taken as a prize by the British. And the name has been used a few times most notably HMS Temeraire during the Battle of Trafalgar. Of which there is the most famous British painting of.

Not exactly since vanguard and Conqueror are nearly same except main guns ....because if you done the Conqueror bureau you know that it was Conqueror that was originally design to combat bismarck as the main flag ship but don't due complication the 419mm guns was replaced with old "15" inch 381mm short used guns instead
