I feel like Haggar needs to go up a tier. Lariat is such a game changer of an assist, one of those rare ones in the game that can truly enforce difficult limitations to what your opponent is allowed to do - on offence and defence! And with much less of a dependence on specific team compositions and situations than someting like drones or gold pendulum. Anecdotally Haggar-teams are also doing pretty well and are well represented in the modern meta, even if you assume that the Hulk-Haggar portion of it is carried by people not playing the matchup properly 😂

this list is really good. I think it adresses some of the problems I had with the last one you made. This game is so hard to tier for and so subjective that I am excited to watch the reasoning over the next couple days.

Purely as someone who watches a lot of tourney games (uninformed opinions incoming): Firebrand never seems to have the results to back up the hype Strider is a great assist but he always seems to fail as an anchor. He takes too long to kill characters even with X factor 3. Dormammu seems to consistently have great results. I'd expect him to be near the top of A Rocket seems underrated. I've seen way too many XF3 comebacks with him. Two great assists as well. I'd put him higher I'd put a tier gap from Deadpool onwards. The others don't get the same kind of results. I rarely see good results from Chun Li, Amaterasu or Taskmaster Shuma is getting a lot more play recently, his solo kill ability is insane. I'd expect him a bit higher I agree Arthur is underrated. Hulk and Haggar clearly get better results than a lot of the characters around them. I'd move them up. Cap seems to be a pretty stable character that gets way better results than the rest of the tier. Jill might actually break out of low tier, just a hunch.

Haggar id move up but not really hulk. Alot of the time it seems like hulk gets way too many free hits because their opponents are way too careless. Once ppl start to gwt better with that MU the cracks will show more

My main takeaway is....God damn I must be good with Shuma if you two put him in B 😂 Good list though, overall. It's so difficult to rate Iron Fist when Risng Fang is unbelievable but he sucks so much ass as a character. Interesting to me that Glass rates Sentinel and Taskmaster higher than most instead of downplaying characters he uses.

Tron’s low tier, but she’s an interesting low tier. She’s got a lot of good stuff with her DHCs, huge buttons, and great damage with meter. She’s got a lot of bad stuff with her mediocre assists, poor mobility, and thick hurtbox. And she’s got weird stuff with her janky hurtbox. Whenever she’s being played, it’s always a treat. Love the character.

Always love your tier lists, and it's nice to hear the rationale behind your placings. It is interesting to see the effect a 2nd voice can have in that everyone does seen a little higher up this time. I'd personally put Hsien-Ko as the top of bottom 5, with Felicia above her and Wright above Felicia.

Been in the lab with storm morrigan doom. Dhc’s into astral, hard tag to doom, and tacs aid the damage struggles, and neutral w missiles is pretty good

If zero gained meter during sougenmu similar to morrigan gaining meter in astral vision, would u rate zero higher?

@@shadowdraqon2479 don't even talk about that. If zero built meter in Sougenmu he would have self sustaining chip damage string, and if you got his his lighting loop would do 600k but build like 3 bars. Back into the infinite chip. He would undoubtedly be the best char lmao

Frank West actually has one of the fastest plink dashes in the game if you are good at doing it really fast. Specifically his forward dash. It's actually nuts to see it in action but I can't find footage online to demonstrate sadly.

Really enjoyed the list and conversation! I always thought of Nova as a 'bottom of A tier' character. Mainly because his movement is predictable, and most in A have better mixup or zoning games, or more support value. I would always rather have Magneto on my team and almost never Magneto + Nova on the same team... so where does that leave him.

@@RPGabe Nova fits into a very specific niche. He must have the damage engine (Spencer+Doom or Strange, or Vergil), then he needs the good assist. So it's like, team Coach Steve, team Nemo or something like Nova/Vergil then like Doom or Shuma or Strider but that starts to get less effective. Steve or Nemo are basically 'the setup' at the top level. With those teams Nova slots in to a unique position where he can fight the best chars on a fair level. It's so good that he's literally able to make them give up certain options to avoid eating his flowchart or risk getting hit by Human Rocket. Then because of Spencer he gets really nice setups for incoming which make him/the team a real threat that can't just be snubbed in discussion because they are really layered while covering most options. He's def a top 10 char, for me he's the best in A because he functions in all the important ways, but also fights the top tiers.

Tier list videos are always great (actual tier lists) because they are great background noise that go for a while and are almost always actually deep, detailed conversations instead of padded overview content so common on KZbin nowadays.

I wanted to say I'm sad to see Ryu so low in the tier list but I respect that Glass gave Denjin Mode the respect it deserves. Also Ryu can solo combo throw... On Sent, haha

As always much respect to you for your efforts in exploring him so deeply. It hurt me a little to do that to him. I've personally put him higher up in previous lists but his luck was out for this list 😮‍💨

What are your thoughts on something Like Doom / Dormammu / Sent?

@@earlgrey5229 it's a cool team. Gotta be nice with Doom though cause he can't immediately get away at 99 and he doesn't have a fast assist to get started with. It's nice cause if you get a hit Doom does lots of damage and builds decent meter. If you kill with a DHC to Stalking Flare you get Dorm in with time to setup with two of his favourite zoning assists. The main problem with the team (trying to survive Vs top tier teams) is that it just isn't potent enough. You are effectively playing Support/Support/Support when having a Point character would be a much bigger win for establishing yourself in neutral. Obviously characters can fill different roles, but there are a lot of characters Doom struggles to fight/has to fight in a fair way on point.

Viper is S tier maybe even beyond it and has the most depth in this entire game. Wesker and Wolvie to B as they haven't been scary since vanilla. Swap Felicia and Arthur maybe move Trish up to A tier as round harvest is the best super in this game for set play with characters that have high/low assists.

nova is s tier. 2 best novas outplaced the 2 best morrigans at evo hes just so strong offline.

@@agentofforce3467 as much as possible, results aren't important. Especially not results from 1 tournament. Nova is definitely great! But he isn't as good as the characters above him, all things considered. It's a theoretical consideration! That said, even if results were considered, Morrigan would still be number 1 as she has dominated the game's life in Chris G's hands, and then in Ryan LV's. One reason we omit tournament results is because player skill is not equal. Some players are simply at a different level than the rest. Comparing results doesn't account for that, and compounding the issue there are other factors such as how top players tend to identify and play top tier characters faster than players that aren't as good, one way it would skew the results.

@@SpartanThrone I don't put morrigan at 1 in offline play due to her most recent results as a tier list must mirror the current meta game and not the meta game of the past. different player skill also shouldnt be considered due to the fact that the best players tend to use the best tools at their disposal which means its impossible to separate the player from the character. i still put nova in S tier due to his offline results from LT and Mundank.

@agentofforce3467 offline results don't factor into the tier list full stop. Top play can help illuminate certain aspects of character strength and synergy with other characters. LT placing 1st 10x in one year but 0x the next year doesn't change the strength of Nova.

@@SpartanThrone bro if every nova places 1st 10x in 1 year and never top 8s the next year. novas strength is the same but the meta is at the point where his relative strength isnt as high anymore. tier lists have to include the current meta game knowledge because its the only way to make sense of the results were observing.

@agentofforce3467 Tier lists are not inclusive of tournaments placings, by definition. Never have been. Anyone who has been doing that isn't creating a proper tier list {which is okay}. But that's a different thing. I didn't mention that this time at the start, probably should have done. But I did mention what it *is* based on... - Top level players, equally skilled - Playing characters to the best of human capability - With optimal matchup knowledge - Making reasonable decision to within human capability

Vergil/Morrigan/Shuma is the team ive played the most and i got to agree with with Glass. The assist is godlike with those two but Shuma himself sucks. My most common training partner played Magneto/Doom/Phoenix and all three of those body him which doesnt help my perception. The team is super strong but its very "top heavy" in that if you are down to Shuma its usually a loss.

Looking at characters individually in a team game is a flawed approach. The only way it makes sense is if you consider the scenario where you're down to your last character. Otherwise, the value placed on character is wildly inaccurate. You need to look at teams, or you get nonsense like placing hulk, and haggar in B tier spots. In actuality when you look at results hulk/haggar is a top shell in a competitive setting.

Great list I personally think Spider-Man should be a little higher on the B tier because he actually has really good matchups outside the S tier. He beats majority of ground based characters. He beats Firebrand, Dante, Viper. But his matchups are weird because if a good assist is slapped on against him it’s more even or even beats him. EDIT: I take it back. Taskmaster is mid B at best😭

Missiles is def the best assist in the game… safety blanket, changes the whole flow of the match with even 1 missile called. Godlike assist for specific shells, and there’s not really a character that doesn’t benefit off of missiles n

@ I have returned from the grave with my report. Punishable hulk specials -gamma charge on block can be punished with quick normals (typically light jabs) -command grab leaves a massive opening on whiff and screams (I fucked up) -gamma crush leaves the green giant in the air after the explosion. If blocking I can rush in a punish that. -stand heavy also leaves a small opening for a potential combo. Though this is a bit sketching due to being special cancelable Character I use: -in general: all my characters can zone out hulk or have attacks with multi hits to break the armor -GR: chain of rebuttal can hit through charge’s armor leading to a wall bounce and combos. Also is good against big bodies in general -taskmaster: standing M has decent range and is multi hit so it can break charge’s armor (though this is a bit risky). Massive hitboxes like stand H can be punished via counter super or standard counters -strange: large projectiles like eye can make approaching difficult and if he’s caught lacking spell of vashanti can leave to a touch of death. -Hawkeye: with smart use of arrows and trick shots. Hulk can be easily zoned out and chipped down to low health. Stand medium has modest range and can lead to combos while slide can also be good. Plus grab tech with standing heavy can easily break standard grabs or reset neutral. And with assist can chip down hulk along with his common partners. Kiss of fire is also fantastic against rush down in general………..so basically the same game plan as morrigan

My biggest objections to this are thor and iron man are too high and spiderman is too low. The practical results of thor and iron man are so bad that their possible support value they bring cant possibly put them above evo winning characters in my mind. Conversely spiderman does have practical results at majors via lilmonix. I also think firebrand might currently be as high as 10th due to the 1 hit 300% combo becoming more prevalent with the ultimate ceiling on the character capping out at 5th if the game were to turn into mag zero morrigan firebrand teams.
