Today I had the honor for the 2nd time to sit down and talk with the Black Prince of Bodybuilding, Mr. Robby Robinson. He shares his PUMPING IRON experience and how the whole setup for the 1975 Mr Olympia contest was a fraud, being setup for Arnold to win while the rest of the cast got worthless, non-payable contracts.

Robby was, and is, amazing. One of my all-time favorite physiques. The man, even in his 70s, looks unbelievable. I'm 61 and have lifted since I was around 13 and it is because of men like Robby, Arnold, Lou, Franco, etc. I have so much respect for these champions. Thank you for posting this amazing interview. The reason why the sport soared in popularity is mainly thanks to him, like it or not, in your personal biased opinion. That being said, Arnold always had a harsh type of humour but it's how he is a person, and has nothing to do with being a racist. Even if he did a nazi salute, as you claim, it doesn't make him a racist and doesn't mean he stood by the nazy party ideology. It is now called a docudrama in current marketing with the revelation and admission that some aspects were staged. (A docudrama is a staged re-enactment.) Exactly how _A Million Little Pieces_ , originally sold as autobiography, was corrected to "memoir" once it was exposed that the author lied about important parts of the book. In both cases it's now labeled more accurately so as to not to continue to mislead the public as the original release unethically did. At the time of release _Pumping Iron_ was marketed as documentary, and the public was led to believe it was an accurate documentation of events, not something that was staged--quite deeply as it turns out. All this is not a difficult concept to grasp, nor is it difficult to see why it is grounds for being angry.

In 1975 size still mattered more than proportion and conditioning. Arnold was bigger, very cut, and very balanced in 1975. 190-200 lb Robbie looked great but could not compare side by side with a 225-230 lb Arnold who was in excellent condition too. Robbie's V-taper, small waist, and incredible arms make him one of my all-time favourite bodybuilders to this very day.

I agree. Don't get me wrong, he did have a great physique or physical attributes. However, there were other athletes who had better and more complete physiques that would had beaten him in many of the competitions where he participated. 1972 Olympia Sergio should have won hands down, also in 1980 Olympia Mentzer should have won. I guess in the end, we can all agree that the bodybuilding industry wouldn't have become what it did if it wasn't for the Weiders' vision. Joe deserves all the credit for that accomplishment.

Just remember in bodybuilding, if all things are equal, the taller and larger guy always wins. Otherwise, Franco theoretically could have and should have beaten Arnold at least once...but that's not how bodybuilding is. Robby to me blew Ken Waller away and should have beaten him in the Mr. Universe that year (in the movie as well). But the storyline was Ken had to screw Mike Katz over (and steal his t-shirt lol). Even in the movie Ken states: "...the only one I'm worried about is Robby". That's another smoking gun right there. Not taking anything away from Ken, he was perfect in every way that year, but I think Robby had more of an "eye-popping" physique that was also incredibly symmetrical as well but I'm just a 60 year old guy going by my memory of the movie which I watched for inspiration for many, many years on VHS tape and I still watch it when I need some inspiration. My favorite scene is with Arnold and Ed Corney doing squats. That scene would even inspire a corpse to get up and pump up! God Bless Robby and the rest of the unsung heroes from the film! As we used to say in the gym...maintain thy steel forearm!!

Arnold was obviously favored throughout his career. I think he could have had better legs if he widened his stance on his squats like Tom Platz (The Quad Father). I saw a clip where Arnold was talking about his long legs and how he had to do front squats instead of leaning so far forward on regular squats. I think he could have changed his technique maybe?

As you can plainly see, Arnold was Flat and Flabby. He has narrow coat hanger shoulders, Barbie Doll thin forearms, Thick waist line, Weak triceps, Puny legs with Calf IMPLANTS Too. Gains and Butler did want Sergio Oliva to be in the movie and book. But Weider and Arnold nixed Sergio's appearance, Sergio was alive and well at the time. And still the NUMBER ONE Bodybuilder on the Planet Bar None. He would go almost ten years without losing a show. Arnold was just the Weider's marketing Tool, nothing more. In 1975 Arnold was Under Sized and Serge Nubret was actually better than Arnold. Most of Serge's scenes at the South African Olympia were edited out. By the way, the Weiders made a HORRIBLE venue choice. Really, South Africa, the home of Apartheid. But behind the scenes, Reg Park and his boy Arnold had a thing going on which led to this HORRIBLE venue choice. In 1980 Reg Park returned the favor to Arnold and was one of the BLIND judges who voted for a WEAK Arnold in that Olympia Fiasco.

Robby and Arnold never even competed in the same contest...The interviewer is inaccurately mentioning events Robby had nothing to do with and stupidly insinuating that Arnold didn't deserve the 1975 win...They filmed a party at Arnold's house and a few BBs getting a FREE meal in a restaurant and they deserved to get paid in a documentary? What people don't understand is Arnold from 10 years old was on several steroids and opioids due to his dad being a nazi soldier. Weider heard of this kid and signed him on as his poster child and paid for him to come and take pictures in his magazine. It's on film that weider said Arnold is his winner and in his competition he will be his winner. If you take this into account you realize the weider bodybuilding competition is completely rigged and is based on competitors being recognized in the product ads in his own publication, and this made weider and Arnold whom was his only chosen a lot of money but the other competitors gained nothing from those pictures in those magazines. If not for weider and Arnold's drug head Father Arnold would be a fat guy in his country. When Arnold appeared in this country he was lifting in all kinds of gyms for recognition but all the trainers and lifters when he was younger said all he was is just a fat kid that is on steroids and without weider he could not make it at any capacity. Arnold helped so called train other builders but they said as they trained together they only got injured and became fat and depressed due to Arnold not eating rightly but because of the opioid and steroids he was keeping the weight down off his frame. In the last competition Arnold just showed up for he was coked to the gills and had stress marks on his face and frame, and weider said he was afraid to call security because Arnold wouldn't leave his office and was screaming to tell the others that he's going to win. The fact the producers of Arnold's weider paid film were also judges shows how shallow the followers of Arnold really are and knowledge says if you take too many products your body's neurological system stays broken and malnourished. Arnold's body was bulky from the opioid solution mixed with steroids and all he could handle. Please look up Platts interview on Arnold for some reason there aren't many videos from the training time-line but the most current interview shows Arnold didn't know a thing about bodybuilding and was hurting others that tried to work with him. Arnold exercised on steroids and cocain as he was witnessed snorting off the exercise machines. Be careful who you look up too because most aren't worth looking into much less up too. Yates testified that Arnold's training was bullshit, and he's not the only one.

All except for THE MYTH, Sergio Oliva. Who Arnold knew he was NO Genetic or Developmental match. That's why the Weider's had to throw him out of their I.F.B.B. company. Arnold was simply NO MATCH for Sergio Oliva. Twenty years before the Mass Monster Era. I do give the Weider's credit for letting Sergio hold the strap for three years. But in Racist America, a Black Hispanic Man could NOT be much of a Marketing Tool for the I.F.B.B. Like the record producer who was looking for a White singer who sounded Black. He found ELVIS! And the Weider's found Arnold. But worst than Arnold, the Frank Zane three Olympia run was a Total JOKE! Frank looked decent in isolation front poses. But from the Back and Side, he disappeared on stage. And when viewed side by side with really massive bodybuilders, he looked like a rank beginner. Frank Zane only looked like a slightly muscular Underwear Model, nothing more. He was NEVER better than Boyer Coe, Robby Robinson or Mike Mentzer. But he was a great Marketing Tool for the Weider's and sold product galore. I remember Frank Zane modeling a two dollar X-Rubber Band exercise contraption that sold for $20 Bucks. Weider sold them in the millions. So as a reward, Frank Zane was given three Olympia's. Thank you Joe Weider, may I have another!
