Nice review and introduction to the gloves. Thanks! I’m looking for the best gloves for -9 c that are not too bulky. I will give these a try!

Glad it was useful. I'm really pleased with them, and the lobster covers make a real difference when the temp drops. Thanks for watching. Jon

Another cracking video so thanks for sharing, your actually the 2nd person to recommend these. The last few days have been the perfect temps to test the primary goal of thermal insulation (waterproof being a secondary) if you're brave enough to actually cycle in these temps!

Thanks, Harvinder, glad you liked it. They're a perfect glove. I've done about 6 rides with them now. The 'lobster' cover is great. Had it a few times when the temp has dropped during the ride, and my fingers were getting cold, so I pulled the covers over, such a small thing makes a huge difference. Agreed, warmth over waterproof at the moment!! Pretty cold here at the moment. -7° this morning..... which is pretty cold for my little corner of the world.... though I'm sure others will have it a lot worse. Because of this, I'm not riding. Salt on the road fails to have an effect below -5°, so I won't risk it. Jon

It's a great feature Mark, and makes such a difference. You're right, it's not an exclusive idea, I've also seen it done by Pearl Izumi, Gore and GripGrab too. Not sure who did it first though...... suspect it just evolved from mittens.

Thanks. I’d been looking at these, was worried the finger slot might let the rain in. But it seems not. Something to consider when my Extremo gloves need replacing. Though they have worked well to date.

To be honest, I thought the same Graham, doesn't cause an issue though. Also, I thought it was a bit of a gimmick, and didn't think I'd use it. However, I do! Thanks for watching.

I wear the Castelli £80 gloves at the moment and they are great in cold and very cold conditions. I wore them all through winter last year. I cannot fault them. My hands stayed warm even on the one or two occasions that the torrential rain soaked the gloves. They go through the washing machine well and are a real treat in cold weather. I am glad I bought them and would urge anyone to do the same, those top of the range Castelli gloves are extremely good. If I could just have a bit more waterproofing, I’d be even happier. These Thermoz gloves now, will they really keep my hands warm and dry in heavy rain and very cold winter weather? Some say no! I’ll have to check them out, before buying them. We’ll see. Thanks for the vid.

The trouble is, James, I hear so many mixed reports about Castelli gloves. I'm a big fan of their winter jacket, and praise them regularly, and the Gabba is an essential bit of kit that every cyclist should own. However, I've heard too many frustrated cyclists (Whose opinion I trust) saying they're disappointed in the performance of their Castelli winter gloves. But I've also heard many cyclists say how good they are. The problem with winter kit is that you have to spend a lot of money to get a good product. Spending £80 on gloves from a brand that gets mixed reviews is a gamble. Saying that though, the Estremo gets some great feedback. I think, because of this, I've not taken the gamble, and just gone to a brand that I know will deliver on winter performance. The Spatz THRMOZ are the best pair of winter cycling gloves I've owned. Are they the best, not sure. Have I got cold hands when wearing them? Yes. Would I have still had cold hands with another glove?....... Probably!

@@ribblevalleycyclist thanks, answers my question really. I’m wearing the Castelli gloves now a full 2 years old and my hands are lovely and warm! I get cold fairly quickly as I’m older, with circulation issues! I don’t think I’ll find a warmer glove, as I said though, just a tad more waterproofing would be nice. The Spatz gear looks terrific, no doubt about it, I think I’ll splash out on a pair of overshoes any day soon now. I ride at least 3 times a week, more if weather is good, all through winter! So my kit gets tested. The Castelli ROS 2 is £170 at Wiggle, and it’s a revelation already, 3 or 4 rides in cold and drizzly conditions! It’s going to get a hammering this winter. I do need a good rain cape still, but can’t part with my hard earned for a ‘shake-dry’, once I get a soaking or two, I probably will ! Typical hey? Enjoy your riding this winter, stay safe out there!

Planning on riding as low as 25°F. Are these much warmer than the race gloves from Spatz?
@ribblevalleycyclist
@ribblevalleycyclist 8 ай бұрын
@oneschance They’re warmer than the race gloves. But 25°F (-4C) is pretty cold! May get cold hands at that temperature, but then I suffer from the cold. Others may be okay.

Hi, can you tell me what size is your palm width and what size Spatz glove did you buy? Thanks Jim
@ribblevalleycyclist
@ribblevalleycyclist 8 ай бұрын
Hi Jim, A very good question! I always take a Large in gloves. However, when I measured the circumference of my hand (24cm), as per the instructions on the Spatz website, it suggested I needed a medium. I was umming and ahing for some time, but the “Fabric is super stretchy” comment on the Spatz website made me think I’d be okay. The answer is, they do fit widthways, bet they’re ever so slightly small lengthways. Yes, the fabric stretches widthways, but not lengthways! The length of my hand, wrist to middle finger is 22cm. The lengthways issue is very slight, so I get away with it. However, I did consider sending them back for the next size up. I hope that helps you. Jon

Was size measurement a problem?
@ribblevalleycyclist
@ribblevalleycyclist Жыл бұрын
Hi Yuh, My hand measures 21cm. According to the SPATZ website, that makes me a Medium. In the past, I’ve always been a Large in gloves. As the SPATZ website claims, and I quote “Glovz fabric is super stretchy, most sizes fit most hands”, I wasn’t overly concerned, and I ordered a Medium. I would disagree with that statement by SPATZ. Although they fit, they only just fit. If I was buying in a shop, I would’ve tried the large too. Also, the fabric stretches widthways, but not lengthways. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching. Jon

@@ribblevalleycyclist Sorry I should have said it is. Not I think. With Shimano shifters at least. Because I can upshift with my thumb by pushing the lever away from me. Or with the Indexfinger pushing towards me. Thahts the method I use. So now I have to teach my self shiffting different. Oposed to the last 10 years I did :D Just want let u know. Because SQLab had the the same idea. And I have these SQLAb gloves ;)

Eyup! Dan, Merry Christmas too mate...... sorry for the late reply. Got out a bit over the holidays, few steady gravel rides along the canals..... good times! I'll be honest, I've not tried the cheaper ones. Trouble is, the website doesn't specify what they're made of, so you can't compare. I'd be interested to hear back from you as to how they compare. Thanks, Jon

They size really small, their customer service is poor and they’re not winter gloves in any sense if your hands are prone to being cold. Excellent for spring/autumn and cyclocross in cold conditions.

And u decide what is a winter glove and what not? For me they are. Winter in Germany CAN be 2 o 3 degreeCelcius and I know that they will keep me warm. And even in colder tempreture they will do theiere job. AT least for me.

Hi John, I picked up 30mins from the video around 4.45 timeline. What’s the longest wet ride you did with them and at what temperature?Are you sponsored by Spatz? Thanks. Best regards Martin
@ribblevalleycyclist
@ribblevalleycyclist Жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, That was just me saying I was 30 minutes in, but can understand how it may cause confusion. Just checked my Strava, the longest ride I've done in them so far was a 2℃ 40 mile 3 hour club ride into The Dales. Not the biggest of rides, but long enough to give a good indication. They'll keep you warm enough, still not 100% sure on how they'll perform in hours of rain....... but then again, Spatz make no claim on that point. No, not sponsored by anyone. I just wear a lot of Spatz because it does what I need it to do. Thanks, Jon
