My goodness, Bonita seemed so sweet and gentle before she had her baby. I think it was here that all the little babies went to for comfort and kindness. It seems that since she had her own baby, and it has grown a over time, that she has now become more aggressive with the other baby monkeys. I wonder if having a baby of her own has perhaps changed her status within the group. I have a friend who is a primatologist, and she told me once that pig tail macaque females are some of the best mothers to their infants and that kidnapping is not very common among that species. So I'm kind of surprised to see what I'm seeing in the few videos I have seen of this behavior that she is displaying. My friend is rather busy at the moment, but I'm still going to send her an email and ask her about this kind of situation. I'm really curious about this kind of behaviour from a female pig tail macaque.

Penelope knows that Bonita does this. Stay away from Bonita. Other videos today Penelope did absolutely nothing to get Piper back. If she keeps letting Bonita have her baby, Bonita will continue to take Piper.

The crazy thing is it's the adults (two pig tails and a long tail) that I have seen kidnap Piper. So far from what I have seen the juvenile kidnappers haven't started taking Piper.

Perhaps it's part of the weaning process...where the baby is separated for awhile from the momma's so they learn to forage and momma gets a well needed break

Not positive, but I could have sworn that I recently saw her in a video recently going up to an infant. I can't remember which one, but she was walking by, saw the infant sitting a couple of steps away, walked up and sniffed her and went along her merry way.

I used to think bonita didnt bother any of the other monkeys n stayed to herself n when she had her baby she didnt allow anyone or any monkeys near her baby n im windering if she grabs the baby bcuz she knows the mom is so young or tht the mom wont fight her bk im not sure i luv all the monkeys but i kinda wish the young mom would smack her next time she yanks on her lil baby

I don't think she can do much, besides any kind of struggle could make things worse for the baby. Obviously bonita could care less if the baby gets hurt during the struggle. I do notice bonita looking around alot after she knows she hurt the baby, I do believe if one of the males or one of the higher ups saw this they would take action. She is always freaking out and looking around to make sure nobody there can do anything. I like the lemon spray in the eye's idea, too bad you couldn't guarantee not to get the babies by accident. She could have suffered major damage the way she hit that tree thank goodness it wasn't head first.
