Exactly what I was thinking. I went cheap first but then put a Mugen Twin Loop on my '99 Civic Si. Wish I still had that car. Also had 16 inch Volk TE37 in bronze. The bronze looked really nice with the Si blue.

I had a 95 GSR for 13 years and did a lot of work to it over the years. The vtec switch point on these cars is at 4400 rpm, which is lower than any other B series due to the extra torque the 2-stage intake manifold gives you. If you go with aftermarket cams, you get a dip in power if you don't raise the vtec point. What you want is a Type R intake cam only, It will give you a noticeable increase in power without the dip. Also make sure the vacuum pot on the intake manifold is hooked up and working. The secondary runners open up at 5700 which you should be able to hear. If this is not connected, you lose a lot of low and midrange power. I dyno'd my car like 15 times testing various mods, and for simple builds, the best recipe was the ITR intake cam, adjustable cam gears (tuning these is a must), cold air intake, 4-2-1 header (best midrange/streetable power) and a basic exhaust (you don't need huge piping). I ended up running an RSX type S muffler on mine and made decent power without being too loud. I put 244,000 miles on it, hitting redline every day, and it was still running well when I sold it. It did burn some oil tho :)

I was looking for this comment. Most people think it's 5700 because that's when the IAB's open, and they are more audible than the vtec engagement. Same with a H-series. If it lags below 5500, the IAB's may be deleted. It gains a few HP above 6k rpm but loses 10-15lbft below 5k - rarely worth it on a street car.

We've all been there! I had a 1999 Type-R that taught me the thrill of left foot braking. A cop pulled me over for hooning in a clover leaf, but since I wasn't technically breaking any speed limits and I was in control of the car he couldn't give me a ticket, but he told me "I know your car so I'll be watching you!" 🤣.

@MyWolffy I actually didn't at first, as the cop didn't put his lights on right away, so I thought some psychopath was chasing after me. I ended up dropping two gears and heading the opposite way of home to only recognize in my rear view that the front end resembled a Charger, to which I immediately said "Oh fuck... ", pulled over, lights finally go on, cuts in front of me and gets out screaming "Turn off the car!!! Get out of the car!!! Hands on the roof!!!" Car then got picked up by a tow truck and impounded for 7 days, followed by a license suspension of 7 days. $2k in lawyer fees later and I left without any demeret points. Fun times!

It's almost as bad here in Connecticut. The put sodium chloride down on the roads days before a storm that doesn't come. They salt the roads until the asphalt disappears. It's unbelievable. I love the 4 door gsr. Good find!

i did the same thing exhause wise to my 90 crx with a b20 swap. I put an aftermarket header on it and a 2.5 inch yonaka catback on it but had clearance issues with fitting a cat on it so i bought a gesi 2.5 inch high flow cat and took it to a local muffler shop and about $100 later i had a sealed exhaust. best money ever spent

The best part of the Apex-i WS muffler & resonator IS that it's so queit. It lets you hear the intake more and doesn't sound like a fart can setup. I have one on my EG hatch with an H23A-vtec and it's fantastic.

Ditch the dual stage oem intake manifold for a Skunk2 version, put oem cams back in, and get 2.25" exhaust piping. Wake that B18C1 up quick.....

I run the DIY version of that Comptech Icebox. I put a PVC pipe with velocity stack below the stock air box, down behind the turn signal. Been on the car since 2001. The stock setup had a huge resonator box inside the fender.

I had a 97 2 door GSR, and I beat the every living crap out of that car, and it never left me stranded. These cars will literally run forever with proper maintenance. I put over 150k miles on mine, still running strong when I sold it. Soon as saw GSR, I clicked. So many good memories of that car.

Thank you Thank you! Finding videos for DB8 is too rare. You actually taught me what I needed about my rear suspension. I got sent the wrong struts, (or shocks) still learning. But they must be for a 2 door maybe? Mine is a 2001 GS R and is the limited edition leather interior model so it has some type R parts mixed in so I figured that the forks not being the correct type was possibly the A arms and the bar that goes across to the other side was type r. Sorry I don’t know the names yet. YOU just finally supplied that video to teach me what I needed to learn. All that camber kit replacement stuff is EXACTLY what I wished for after searching and buying all the books. I had a hard time getting shops to install my bushings kit, and finally just sold them. I really wish you would have popped that hood. I don’t feel excited about the Kswap, because I am thinking about her with an EV kit or a hydrogen setup. Something that can pass smog so I don’t have to pay 400$ to register my car. Why isn’t the GSR motor restored to full glory?

Turbo B18 is the move on this car IMO, AWD conversion would be cool too but I dunno how much you guys feel like investing in this project. I don't think you could fit a J series in the bay without cutting or spacing up the hood a bunch and that would sort of kill any sleeper status.

Type R homage in championship white can be a good idea. Also it can be a twinning with your DC2 Type R, just a sedan. Four dour for more ***** version of the Type R wont be bad.

I don’t know how far you guys are going to go with this car but this has been my favorite all time car. I would have the entire body repaired and repainted hunter green. I would put the 98-01 front and rear bumper including headlights and taillights. Front OEM Type R lip. I would get rid of the rear spoiler. I would find an entire black leather interior. It already has the most desirable 5 lug. That is a super rare car. I have not watched the video yet but I am going to do it now and keep a close watch on this series.

The A’PEXi World Sport 2 was my favourite muffler on my Acura 1.6 EL. The sound was fantastic and the butt dyno told me I gained the reported 7-10 HP.

I owned a 95 GSR Coupe with the Ice Man Air Intake. It was custom ordered in Black Leather Interior on Black Pearl with Gold Flake paint. That car hauled balls. I beat Corvettes and Exotics all the way through 4th Gear. I miss that car everyday..

A couple months ago I saved a 2006 Forester X from the junk man. Paid $500. Guy said it smelled like coolant and battery would not charge. It has 335,000 miles on it and the crank pully had seperated. Had a pully in garage, new belt and cheapo radiator and it runs. Installed new front rotors and pads. Next is cheap stock exhaust, new tires and struts. I have a perfect winter beater for about $2200 all in.

I've just done rings and valves on my GS-R sedan. One thing I'm puzzling about is whether VTEC is really coming on. It pulls nicely and there are no warning lights, but there isn't a noticeable jump in the power sweeping through 5k. I've owned the car for 25 years, but it was off the road for ages and I'm just not sure what it is supposed ot be like.

I have whats left of an Apexi WS2 exhaust on my EJ coupe. I loved it. It replaced the stock exhaust that fell apart after I put it back on from the Magnaflow fartcan that was way too loud and now I'm still too traumatized to replace the exhaust on my fl5. 😁

Fwiw, in the us, the Gsr valve cover had the big DOHC and small vtec. And it also only said Honda motors and didn’t have the emblem. The em1/jdm valve cover looked like the one yall put back on it.

I love the idea of building a modern rat rod - The only issue I foresee is if you start putting a lot of power down, you're probably going to need wider wheels, and that patina goes away unless you can find some old back of the garage, chipped paint, scratched up maybe curbed a few times wheels somewhere

Loving this build for obvious reasons. Great to see it coming back to life. I really thought a DigiDizzy was going to be the distributor solution not the red thing. Haha. 100%. If they kept them OEM in appearance and had solid reliability, they'd sell more. Also, completely support a RWD F20C swap after you pull the B18 out. S2k front and rear subframes. Just cut and weld to make it work. Let PT go wild with fabrication. Hard pitch for sponsors but it'd be fun to see you guys' take on something so wild.

Make it a true 4 door ITR !! NH0 for paint, decent interior to match the true DC2 (red Recaro's, black rear seat with red stitching) but that would mean to paint the interior parts to black ...

Not 100% sure about the ITR sedan shells but if it were a coupe it would never be a "true" Type-R since they have thicker stamped sheet metal in a few places and a different rear subframe. You'd also have to do a sunroof delete or roof skin swap which wouldn't be super straightforward these days.

I've been a Honda guy for well over 20 years and I've seen too many times people think their distributor is bad. In fact, if you pop the cap off and take off the rotor, you'll see a few female spade connectors behind the rotor that connect to male spade connectors. If you take off the female connectors, use some needle nose plyers to squeeze them "tighter" with a dab of electrical grease, and place back on the male connectors nice and TIGHT, you'll see how much better the car runs after that. If the engine does not sputter or break up when the car is in neutral and it is revved, or the engine is cold, but breaks up terribly when warmed up, 99% of the time that is the problem. I've fixed countless Hondas/Acuras doing this and it takes 5 minutes
