N54 engines are great engines, you can prevent problems with these engines by taking your time find the week points of these engines from oem and replace them with more reliable and sturdy parts. I've owned my bmw n54 for 2 years now i have replaced many parts before the became a problem and i only need to do normal servicing on the engine. Maintenance first then performance , keep a minimal tune and dont beat on the car 24/7 until you have fixed the week points then you will have a amazing engine.

I can’t wait to graduate to an n54, specially one worked on by you guys! And yes I’m not afraid of the repair bills, like any car if you take care of it it will takes care of you. I’m rocking an e90 328 lci that I bought it with 61k miles and 3 years later I have 141k, aside of maintenance and the mandatory BMW oil leak, “which I’m fixed all myself” this car has been a tank. I also had an 02 Neón RT that I used to autocross with 267k miles on the original motor and it was still embarrassing newer cars. That e92 looks like the best of both worlds, confortable enough to daily and just the right amount of performance and suspension mods to make it a killer weekend warrior.

I found you videos on my feed today and had to watch both. I've owned my '09 335 N54 6MT in Black Sapphire Metallic for over seven years and it's my daily driver, I don't have a tune because I've heard too many regarding cooler plugs, bad coils and more. I recently ordered a set of VMR v703 (CSL style) in 18" to replace the Style 189's and debated getting 19" wheels but am glad that I went with 18's. The wheels are on backorder so I can expect them in March or April. The car has cost me an average of $80 a month to maintain including a set of PS4S' and I DIY just about everything up to this point.

Contrary to the non-owners posting here, the N55 is extremely reliable. A lot of new low budget owners purchase these all clapped out with a ton of deferred maintenance which they do not correct. If one stays up to date and on top of the maintenance schedule, these are very reliable engines.

Im glad that there is now a video that shows this issue with the injector mosphets i had mine replaced at a local computer shop in town and im sure you have a computer place near you to do it after it is done and you reinstall the ecu you should never have a problem again i got my mosphets at 10 of them when you only need 6 for only $6 so go ahead costs about $100 to $150 for the soldering job other than that kind of a cheap fix for something that i thought was such a big deal before i thought about changing the mosphets out and i did use an upgraded mosphet as the replacements and i have not had a problem and have been using the ecu now for a year and with a mhd stage 2+ tune that is more aggressive than the cobb tunes so go ahead and do this instead of the ecu upgrade that costs $900

I need to do an intercooler upgrade for sure but even with an MHD stage 1, I am loving the performance I get. I'm focused more on longevity since new car prices are ridiculous lately but a quick jump to stage 2 and I can really stretch her legs out every now and then.

I have never heard of this problem on any N55 DME which are all post 2010. Since this can be Cobb tuned, this is the first version of the N55 DME. My 2011 135i N55/DCT with this DME was used by Cobb Austin for a lot of their stage 1 tuning development as I had the Helix stepped intercooler on it. No problem with the DME was ever encountered. For the money and effort this one is a winner. As I said last time, I'd be happy to have this in the driveway. Especially for the $$ y'all have into it. The only thing I'd change is the tint. I think it would look more refined with a lighter shade. In the drive video it looks good so maybe it was just the lighting in the shop.

From what I read, the 335i is only 150lbs heavier than the 135i but yeah the 1 series is more toss able on a track.

@@mathieulevasseur4082 I guess option dependant too. But your right they aren’t that far off. Mine is just under 3300 (scale dependant) but it’s base base I was hinting at striping one down a bit. Ther is a few out there hovering around 2900-3000.

When you do anything more that a stage 1 Mhd tune you must, must must do the pret-tune engine out maintenence please see below. Full engine out service: • All the Gaskets -Oil Pan Gasket -Valve Cover Gasket -Oil fiter housing Gasket •Lines •Seals • Ignition Coils Delphi or Bosch • Walnut blast to reduce carbon depsosits on Intake Valve •Spark Plug •New Belt + pully • Electric Oil Pump (Very weak point of N54) • Water Coolant pump •Injectors Index 12 (need to be coded) •Alternator if not been changed •Vanos •Upgraded high highpressure fuel pump •Updated low pressure fuel sensor And if you want big power i.e. 700bhp from a budget hybrid turbo like a 17t or 19t then port injection is the way to go.

These 335I are amazing performance cars which will also teach someone the basics on maintaining a car. The n54 is a good motor, very stout, and most examples now have had the teething issues sorted out. The N55 motor is fantastic.

I'm glad y'all broke down at BMS Tuning, because if that had been me I would've been replacing the coils and plugs chasing my tail before I would've thought of the ECU injector drivers going bad. I've had them go bad in my Honda ECUs before and it drove me nuts!

Definitely diggin the build! Only thing I would do differently is I would go MHD instead of COBB for my tuning. Just a simple search on the topic and you'll get a laundry list of all the benefits of MHD vs COBB, other than that you guys have a solid build! I particularly love the headlights! Completely transforms the car to a more modern look!!! I need those on my 335i e90!

something cool to try is a TCU Tune, xhp has a ots tune, and there is a tuner Sutphin Tuning, that makes custom tunes. I've run both in my e90 335d, which I know is different, but Sutphin's tune feels better on daily driving as it's a custom map with the correct tq ramp per your dyno and so on.

Think about it, you upgrade the intakes, and get a proper MHD tune with a trans tune and inlet pipes. You’re making 400whp or very very close to it. N54 is the best bang for buck performance motors out there. Even in 2022 they are imagine motors. Good job 👍🏻
