$2500 for an N54 equipped car + Immediate Dyno Pulls ..... how did that not end poorly!? For all the freedom dollar comments - $2500 cad for a 335i in any condition is a STEAL! Good luck gents, looking forward to seeing the end result. Just let us know when you need injectors and hpfp 😁

MHD Flasher > Cobb. You’ll see a big difference if you switch over to MHD

LMAO when he said the internet took him to cobb tuning when doing his research. Cobb stopped developing for the N54 platform back in 2017. Sponsorship $$$ took him to cobb tuning.
@SamHuard
@SamHuard 3 жыл бұрын
@@nineteen76 nothing wrong with that. MHD doesn’t have the research and development that Cobb does. It’s like Dinan, you can’t really find any cars that have blown up on their tunes, but MHD there’s plenty. That being said, this car made over 270whp “stock”. I say 270 because that’s what a stock 335 should make. It obviously has a tune in it, or a JB4. It’s likely why they did a new baseline on their next video.

@nineteen76
@nineteen76 3 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with Cobb as a company. They do great work when developing for a platform. I was a customer. Running the AP for a while when they were doing great things for the N54. Until it just stopped and I watched MHD continue to develop and innovate. At one point I decided to switch and sell my AP before they become worthless. For this video to suggest they did extensive research and come to the conclusion that Cobb is a good pick just reeks of an infomercial. Stopped watching after that. It’d be fine if they say they’re sponsored or honest about they just love cobbs because of previous ties. Right now it just look like they suck at research.
@SamHuard
@SamHuard 3 жыл бұрын
@@nineteen76 understandable. But MHD hasn’t really done anything Cobb hasn’t done. I mean you can flash a sweet pop and crackle tune with a slider. Oh and on a tablet with a 15$ k can cable from aliexpress. But they don’t have any real hardware that required research and development. They’re a company that made a flash program.. which Cobb did in the early 2000’s. I think Cobb is more innovative to be honest. They’ve always made hardware and a tune to support it, and it’s backed with a warranty. And I don’t think Pete and Dave need to say that it’s sponsored. It’s goes without saying. They don’t do this for charity, it’s their job. And income needs to come from somewhere, and so do some of the parts.

Nice video and great sources for materials used on this platform. One of the likely reasons they're cheap in Canada is that you can only drive them 4 to 5 months a year and keep them roadworthy (or the car gets rusty AF on anything exposed to the elements, like yours is, no offense). Also, the N54 motor has historically been a 'not-fully-baked' feel to the complete motor assembly. Many of the accessories are ABS plastic which heat cycles out after a few years and need replacement. Seals that get baked dry (like the really fun oil pan gasket) or the oh-so-lovely oil filter housing gasket. Oh, and that wonderful electric coolant pump, yay. I love mine but I also live in SoCal, do my own work on the car, and it's not my primary commuter. But, on the other side of that reliability is tremendous potential for 500-700 horsepower with manageable maintenance (but it's true, the higher you tweak your car, the more you must maintain your car). Great job guys! Looking forward to the next episode! #projectweltspeed #weltspeed

Just found your channel, you guys are awesome! Surprised you guys didn't go with downpipes; hope you guys put in an upgraded LPFP, intakes, and switch to something like an MHD tune (you would actually hide the downpipes codes and pass inspection with it). I feel like the majority of newcomers to this platform, as well as seasoned owners, very well have switched to flash tuning outside of the original tuners like COBB. After 12 years of ownership I can say that I have switched across many different tunes as others have, and COBB was left in the dust a long long time ago. You guys definitely went conservative on the choice of parts here which I would say actually will benefit in it lasting longer lol. Sometimes not edging out every last bit of power will lead to a better overall driving experience. Great video! I am looking forward to what you guys do in the future with it and if you do another round of next tier up mods or something!

I'd really like to see a full budget list, even if it's full MSRP (in Canadian dollars). That way ppl know what they are potentially looking at, where they need to look for deals/sales/alternatives. I realize you have sponsors and get money from the ads, but even rough estimates would be nice as well as actual time/man-hours. I know in real life, it will take longer than 21 minutes; plus then we know how much you guys actually woek/put into your builds.

A few thoughts for those considering a build like this...I thought BMW switched to 0W30 recommendation for N54. MHD > Cobb for years now. If those injectors are original, if you’re considering any tunes, suggest switching them to series 12 prior tune, also plugs and coil packs, especially for an engine bay remotely resembling that.

@matte8441 3 жыл бұрын
I owned 2 of these cars. One of the best cars I’ve ever owned. Get the known problems fixed and they’re good daily’s. The first one was traded at a Porsche dealer and they suspected it needed an engine but it only needed coils. My second one had the N55 engine which was more reliable.

Old trick I learned that many don’t know is when pouring fluids out a container always have the spout in the top position instead of the bottom like was shown here. Controls the trapped air and gives a smoother and more controlled pour. Not that that would have made a difference here since the funnel was the problem.
@atlantajunglepythons1744

I learned to start the pour on the side for more control. Keeps from flooding plugs and injectors. Better to use a clean, widemout funnel, tho

I've had my 335i for nearly 14 yrs , I change my oil + filter every year before my service , the car never does more than 5.000 mls , and after buying a w124 E320 modern classic the 5.000 is halved between them , even less now due to lockdown and the oil always comes out black , this is not a bad thing because oil is doing its job properly by removing contaminants, I use 0w30 because the 0 winter grade is better than the 5 winter grade for getting the cold oil to the turbo's, my car has 54.000 mls now and the engine is incredibly smooth and powerful, I have a Cobb access port with cat back exhaust , forge intercooler , duel cone filters , aluminum charge pipe with bov , pcv oil catch can , making 390bhp + 507.ft/lbs torque , I've had 2 hpfp,s second water pump , auto transmission sump replaced because the leaky gasket is integrated into sump ( pan ) , no turbo , injectors , coils , or other problems , I absolutely adore this car even after the problems I will keep it forever .

Without the catless downpipes your choking and making the exhaust basically just for sound. Turbos like the most a short divergent duct as compression is created at the turbine at low rpm. I am a jet mechanic, have been to aeronautics school and understand these concepts. Forget epa and just switch the cats back at inspection. Or lose 20-30hp. Use 02 sensor extensions or eat them up. Also , walnut blast and run ethanol injection and keep your intake valves cool and clean. Run 081 mosfets in your ecu . Index 12 injectors and jp4 with a "backtune" . For 650 wheel run To4's with the 2" inlets and outlets. I do understand that's beyond the scope of this build and thank you for the coilover info. I am going to run those . Oh , m3 arms in front by trw... And yes you can run 20" rims I use nitto tires. Run 0w20 or 40 and it will clean your n54 engine squeaky clean. Change a few times at 500 first then 1k a few times. Watch , it will be nasty as it cleans. Use royal purple then switch back to mobile 1. Stage 3 united motorsports as opposed to pure stage 2 and it will last. Inconel wheels , any other and you'll be smoking out the exhaust.

Oh man, a 335i - the official car of NYC bros revving it while waiting at every traffic light, and bombing down residential streets at 40mph, setting off their bangs and pops tune This build already looks cleaner than 97% of the BMWs here

Unfortunate that you used Cobb for this sponsor. Their parts and more importantly, tune (in particular) are all 10 years old tech. If your not tuning with mhd your leaving a lot of power on the table.

As soon as I saw you decided to use Cobb instead of great VRSF and MHD FBO's, I left the vid. Not worth watching you muddle around for a less than optimum setup. You won't get even close to the real power you COULD make with this car. What's the use of halfassing the job??? #WastedtimeANDmoney After re-reading my comment to you guys, I thought maybe I was being a bit harsh, so decided to watch a little more. But after seeing you install a new chargepipe and keep the old plastic diverter valves and smothering air box, I knew I'd made the right decision in the first place. This is NOT a good vid. Horrible decisions all the way around...

So I'm re-visiting this build and kudos to the boys for doing it and now poo poo-ing the 335i like so many do without actually even checking it out for themselves. If you're not a DIY-er then maybe don't buy one. But right now these cars are Amazing bang for the buck!! But Boo on them for not doing at least "Catted High Performance Down Pipes". It would have sounded MUCH better as well. They left SOoo much power on the table as well as the swap of the Low Pressure Fuel pump to run E85 fuel. Huge Boo on that. Inlets and outlets are also a cheap expense and fair gain in HP. But they did the cheap easy mods and it's incredible what type of power you get just doing these mods even.
